I was finding the show harder and harder to want to watch for a couple years now. This year I found myself with the last 8 episodes or so backed up on my DVR with no desire to watch. Tried a few times , would watch 10 minutes then turn it off. Just assumed I'd get back into it and avoided threads like this like the plague.
Then a couple weeks ago on a sports talk channel the topic was "hate watching" One of the most mentioned shows was Walking Dead. The gist is people still watch because they watched for so many years they feel like they have to even though they don't like it anymore.
I was like... THATS ME!! . It was a wake up call and I decided to just delete all 8 + episodes I had saved. I've officially given up..
The show has been slowly getting worse for a while now with occasional powerful moments. Negan is always captivating when on screen. 75% of the new episodes are clearly thrown together with no care.
I have to look at it as a whole. And from that perspective it's still my favorite show of all time. My wife and I were newly dating when I asked her "hey there's a new show on amc starting tonight that looks interesting, want to watch?" That was 8 years ago and we haven't missed an episode yet. So it means a lot to me from that viewpoint. Plus everything these characters have been through together.
We def don't get excited like we used to for it. This show used to really be something special. My wife has been in full blown hate watching mode since Glenn and how that all went down. I'm still holding on for hope for those powerful moments.
