So, what is the unacceptable risk UCONN? is it the same risk that allowed D. Mitchell to get COVID and to already be playing in an NBA basketball game? That risk? I mean holy shit, he's really brave.

notre dame has an NBC contract and a national following

Uconn football has Willie (no offense)

HUGE difference

Guarantee you the school still relies heavily on that football program revenue. And for the kids on scholarship in their Senior years?

I didn't ask anybody anything in my initial post. I certainly wouldn't ask you anything. I posted the info because it's relevant but let's talk about UCONN's reasoning for canceling the season. This is what their statement says:

"The safety challenges created by COVID-19 place our football student-athletes at an unacceptable level of risk."

"The necessary measures needed to mitigate risk of football student-athletes contracting the coronavirus are not conducive to delivering an optimal experience for our team,"

So, essentially, the NBA, MLB, NHL, UFC, European Soccer and all other Division I programs can do this but UCONN can't? Do you see why this is a stupid decision? Not to mention there is next to 0% risk for anyone under 65. Now, instead of insults, counter this argument with some facts not feeling.

You do understand what I am saying right? As stated earlier in post #3. see the info below.

Enfuego makes his decisions to do what is best for Enfuego. UConn makes a decision that is best for UConn. So what's the problem?

Of course football is a money maker but the football team left the AAC after 2019 to go independent. I dont know offhand what their original schedule was for 2020 but i'm SURE they were looking forward to the big paydays to have their teeth kicked in this season.

Regarding the kids on scholarship, i'm sure they redshirt this season. As for the ones who have used up their redshirt, i'm sure the NCAA will grant them an extra year. I guess those students should take advantage of another year of free room and board although according to Shabazz, they cant find any free food past 10pm.

I'm 99.9999% sure that Willie can fill in the details better than myself

Was the team making money or losing money? That should be the determining factor. The football team brought in $32 million in revenue (according to Wall Street Journal), but the school spent $44 million from its budget on the athletic program (money spent above revenue, according to USA Today).

Now lets see all the socialists at therxforum who believe in throwing as much money as possible at public education come ignore the wastefulness that is UConn athletics. They think the only things that should matter are the chances that the players will live or die. I bet they'll just say "What about the kids? What happens to them?".

They could do what Notre Dame did and attach itself to a conference for a year.

UConn football is NOT Notre Dame football, nobody is recruiting us

Do I really need to say that? :)

You're deflecting like always. There is no scientific reason 120+ other football teams can play and UCONN can't. If you can name one, have at it or deflect as standard practice.

Dude, I didn't compare the two programs. Come on now.

I said UCONN can DO what Notre Dame is doing and attach itself to a conference for one year.

definitely WuFlu related...has nothing to do with their athletic dept being the most highly subsidized school in the country losing >$40M yr with football being the largest deficit contributor.

and the basketball money drying up, until now that is, hoops money beginning to reverse itself

they don't even have me, haven't gone to a game in maybe 7 or 8 years (I am hoping to someday, they have to compete before I return)

I'm a Bama fan now :)

I read home games are normally filled at a 25% capacity. Is that true?

UConn football is hemorrhaging financially . Because of horrific performance on the field, season ticket sales were cut nearly in half, from like 35,000 to like 17,500. Even worse, donations disappeared

Then with men's basketball sucking for three consecutive years and zero interest in AAC rivalries, men's basketball donations and ticket sales plunged. I've been riding the wave on this one, and I have awesome seats for life now. (4th row, top of the key)

When old Big East rivals like Georgetown or Nova came to town, the games were good old fashion sellouts.

FWIW, Hurley started to reenergize the fan base with the way the team was playing down the stretch last year, and moving back into the Big East is a huge draw with ticket sales, donations & recruiting.

Just not enough to save football with this pandemic looming large over everything

FWIW Enfuego, I'm disappointed with their decision and I feel bad for everyone who committed to our program

Nobody wants us for football only, nobody

A lot of non P-5 conferences would love our basketball and baseball and soccer and field hockey :))), but nobody wants football only

See...I'll make it easy and simple for you. Some scientists say if you wear a mask, it's a safe thing to do. Some scientists thinks the mask does nothing. So you make that decision yourself. UConn have made the decision to not play this season. Enfuego want to know why they are not playing. Uconn to Enfuego, go fvck yourself and run your own fvcking house while we run ours. Drive around!

The real reason they aren't playing is because they'll lose money. They aren't Notre Dame. The "safety of athletes" line is a cover and bullshit and we all know it.

BTW-My decisions in my house impact me and my family. UCONN's decisions impact thousands of people to include staff, athletes, alumni, students etc.

Comparing what I do in my house and what UCONN decides to do at their university is just, well, dumb. I don't expect different from you though. Your ability to critically think is lacking.

The 32M in revenue was also with a conference
In 2020, they will be independent

football revenue was 3.3M last year, expenses were nearly 17M ... even with "saving" this 14M loss the athletic dept is expecting a 25M loss. easier to blame covid than the failings of the AD, school, and lack of success of their programs. and they know the media will run with "uconn cancels football due to virus" and overlook the financials behind this

Looks like UCONN would have lost MORE money in 2020 if they played football.

Seems like their deficit would be less if they DIDNT play football in 2020.

They can use COVID as an excuse
