Being able to go to the gym or a baseball is not a right. Two months ago, those business owners could have not provided you service. Unless you are the owner of the baseball team or the gym, the autonomy you have over yourself hasn't changed because they were told to shut down. It's just Enfuego trying to shove his doom and gloom agenda on everyone else.

It's not a right, but if a gym owner wants to open up he should be able to. The government should not be able to close private businesses. If you are afraid of the virus, stay your ass at home.

Exactly. The last two weeks before my gym was shut down, it was about 15-20% of a normal weeknight crowd. People were already staying home. Let the one's in fear stay home.

There are lots of things they could've done without shutting it all down.

They could limit the number people in the gym at one time. Have people call in and sign up for a 1 hour block of time, then have staff do a quick clean up before the next group comes in.

This is exactly correct. No one is forced to go anywhere. If you’re scared, don’t go. If you’re scared to work, don’t go. I’m just wondering who is actually scared, or just don’t really wanna go?

I guess if it means going to a job or going to go something that's more appealing to others.

For me I enjoy my job, so I like going. As for going to the gym....not my favorite....lol

In a lot of places, gym owners can lose their business license for staying open. Would you lose any professional license or would the state do anything else if you were personally training people for money?

Whether the government should or should not be doing this, the only one being limited by the government intervention is the business owner who owns a publicly facing non-essential business.

I still train private clients outdoors. It's very easy to comply with social distancing rules and exercise is considered essential activity, so there's no chance of any of that.

Exactly. You're going to do whatever you want and if anyone tries to stop you, the courts will protect you. This entire situation doesn't effect you in any way at all.

You're on the peoples side of this equation... take my chances with a jury ...You can't be bias against some businesses or be selective in that regard.

Everything these guys do is political. People think politicians are caring people. They aren't.

As their polling numbers shift, so do their decisions.

I think you are completely off base with this comment and your insinuation that people can still do whatever they want. Going to court is expensive. How many businesses can afford the legal costs of something like that. In addition, how's that going to look in your community when you are one of the only clubs attempting to stay open. I'm thinking from a goodwill perspective that would crush your business. It would be the equivalent of wearing a Scarlett letter.

Bottom line is the entire fitness industry has been crushed. Most trainers are not as resourceful like I am, having trained people at clubs and privately for years. And you're not exactly going to get a bunch of private clients right now if they haven't already been established. The latest thing is trying Skype type workouts which is a joke. In addition, masseuses and physical therapists are out of work. And what about the health care industry (or were you not aware that thousands have been furloughed)?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idiocy of closing golf courses and tennis courts (two sports that can easily be played with distancing). Last weekend, all parks and hiking trails were closed down.

Anything dealing with how people like to entertain themselves in their free time is pretty much shutdown. Movie theatres, shopping malls, amusement parks, and of course restaurants. My wife and I like to eat out once a week and getting take out is a far cry from that.

To imply that there hasn't been a loss of freedom is absurd. Everything most people do in their free time has been shutdown or completely flipped upside down.

It was Red Eye who made the comment ("I would take it to court")

Not all. Home gym equipment sellers are doing great. A lot of the ones I like to check all raised prices and sold out of most everything.

Great point. People who are resourceful will do a lot better than people who aren't. It is extremely surprising to learn that might be something new.

Not sure the govt can be selective on who can or can't be open , especially if it shows any kind of bias at all was my point.

An issue like this , with a clear cut bias on what is essential and what's not , Attorney's would rush to take on these kinds of cases
