Prospects for Senate Republicans in November just keep getting worse, worse, and worse

Kerry Eleveld
Daily Kos Staff

Thursday June 11, 2020 · 10:19 AM PDT

Senate Republicans just can't put out the fires Donald Trump keeps setting fast enough. At first, their effort to maintain their majority in November centered around defending four main seats in Maine, Arizona, Colorado, and North Carolina while hoping for a pickup of Sen. Doug Jones' seat in Alabama.
But Trump's cratering approvals and his spectacularly horrible leadership skills in a crisis just keep sucking more states into play.

For starters, Trump's approvals keep sinking. Gallup just put him at 39% in a poll taken from May 28 to June 4, slipping 10 points from 49% in late March. Notably, only 47% of Americans approve of Trump's handling of the economy according to Gallup's latest survey, which is a steep tumble from 63% approval in January. The economy has always been Trump's strongest issue area.
Bloomberg News reports that Trump huddled with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Wednesday, the same day Gallup's new poll was released. Neither one of them disclosed their private conversation, but it hardly matters—Republicans are irrevocably tied to Trump at this point. Not only have they simply surrendered like a bunch of lemmings, they built him into the lawless monster he's become and then voted to save his presidency without even fielding a proper impeachment trial.
What that means is that Democrats' pickup opportunities in the Senate just keep expanding beyond those seats held by Sens. Susan Collins, Cory Gardner, Martha McSally, and Thom Tillis. Overall, Republicans are defending 23 Senate seats to just 12 for Democrats. The new states that Democrats are eyeing include Iowa, Montana, and Georgia. Here are some basic data points for each:
Iowa: The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee put $7.3 million into TV/digital ads targeting Sen. Joni Ernst's seat, with two recent polls showing Ernst's Democratic challenger, Theresa Greenfield, up by several points.
Montana: The DSCC also directed $5.2 million to Montana to help Democrat Steve Bullock, the state's current governor, topple incumbent GOP Sen. Steve Daines.
Georgia: No DSCC action here yet, but Cook Political Report recently re-rated incumbent Sen. David Perdue's seat to "Lean R," making it more competitive. Ernst's and Daines' seats are also in the Lean Republican category, as is the seat of the other Georgia GOP senator, Kelly Loeffler.
Other possibilities remain, such as in Kansas, where GOP right-winger Kris Kobach—who lost his 2018 gubernatorial bid—could become the Republican nominee to replace retiring Sen. Pat Roberts.
Republicans are also putting money into defending states beyond the original four. The Senate Leadership Fund, a McConnell-aligned super PAC, reserved $10.1 million in radio/TV space this month in Montana, and Iowa was part of the PAC's $67.1 million ad buy in March. That buy also included Arizona, Colorado, Maine, North Carolina, and Kentucky (McConnell's seat!).
A spokesperson for the National Republican Senatorial Committee made the laughable argument that once more money was spent defining these Democratic challengers, they wouldn't look so hot.
“A lot of these Democrats haven’t had much money spent against them yet and once their records are litigated voter opinion will turn against them,” Jesse Hunt told Bloomberg.
The idea that any of these Democrats' records could be worse than voting to save Trump's presidency just in time for him to screw up a pandemic response and a national reckoning on race is sheer folly. Senate Republicans can spend all the money they want—they will rise and fall with Donald Trump. He is their fate.

Skewed Media Polls

The latest skewed media polls must be intentional. It’s clear that NBC, ABC and CNN who have Democrat operatives like Chuck Todd, George Stephanopoulos and other Democrats in their news operations are consistently under-polling Republicans and therefore, reporting biased polls. They continue to poll adults or registered voters that skew away from likely voters. So instead of the 33% Republican turnout which actually happened in 2016, they are reporting polls on only 26%, 25% or even 24% Republicans. Since you get over 90% of the Republican vote, for every point fewer Republicans that they do not poll, they reduce your vote total by a point. In contrast CBS polled likely voters. CBS had 32% Republicans and a close national race. The bias seems to be an intentional strategy to suppress your vote. The latest media spin is that it’s too late to define Joe Biden and it’s too late for President Trump to win. We can hardly wait until they start spinning a “Biden electoral lock”. It has to be a strategy to counter the enthusiasm of Trump voters.

For, example, the CNN poll out today is another skewed anti-Trump poll of only 25% Republican. It’s a poll of 1,259 adults – not even registered voters, let alone likely voters. Also, it was done between June 2nd and 5th, before the great economic news from last Friday. In their questionnaire between asking about your job approval and the ballot, they had questions on issues including race relations, not job creation, which could have biased the poll further. It appears that the CNN poll is biased in both sample and questionnaire design to manufacture an anti-Trump outcome.

Specifically, the NBC/WSJ poll on Sunday was among registered voters, not likely voters, and is only 26% Republican. Again this shorts Republicans about 7 points from the 2016 exit polls which had 33% Republicans. This poll was done May 28th through June 2nd and would not have a Friday’s great jobs impact.

The refusal to screen for actual likely voters is creating an under-polling of Republicans and therefore Trump voters. It seems intentional. It’s exactly what the media did in 2016.

lol - On QUE again. So predictable!!!

Everything stated/posted in this thread anyways is being documented in here and will be sent to Administration to see if it is in line with

the title of the thread and in regards to what I stated/requested in post 1.

To be clear, this thread is for political news and related commentary only, and I am going to pursue this to the highest level in this Forum

to be sure that it remains that way!

It goes without saying that the names of posters who don't conform along with their post numbers will be included in the

documentation.

That's funny. It is okay for you to say vile, nasty shit to people. That's all good, but when people return the favor, you run to mods. Sounds like the last 2 forums where you were banned. Nothing but a baby and a hypocrite. Ever hear the old saying ...

"Don't dish it out if you can't take it"

If you makes you happy for me to respond to you after five weeks or so of not doing, then fine.

I am going to let you know and and anyone who just came out of a coma yesterday and doesn't know already, that I have NEVER engaged in

personal attacks, name calling and personal insults unless provoked first.

You on the other hand have done it to me ever since I came over to this Forum in August with thousands of posts among others, calling my

wife repetitively a bought whore, when in fact she is high class, loving, devoted and devout Evangelical Christian lady to whom I have

been happily married for 14 years.

There have been even more repetitive posts attacking me with no basis or foundation and ae just plain lies, which define you 100%.

And lets tell the REAL TRUTH here re: the bans rather than your lies or half truths.

I was banned at Bettorschat around 13-15 years ago ONLY because I made some snide remarks about Charlie, a sports capping service, because

they lied about their record.

Unfortunately Monte, the owner of the Forum, didn't care for that because Charlie was also a sponsor.

It was a short term ban and it was the ONLY reason I was banned.

The other time I was banned was last August and it was by Wayne, which says a lot in itself.

I was banned because Wayne, who thinks he knows everything about everything, didn't agree with my comments about the Red Sox.

Before banning me he even deleted some of my posts and even a thread I started about the Red Sox.

He also removed me from threads started by other posters if I expressed an opinion which differed from his own or one of his buddies who started

the thread.

I will leave it to those reading this to decide who is telling the truth here, me or the Psychic.

And for the record, not that it matters all that much, I would bet money that the Psychic is either really Wayne himself as I originally thought, or

kbsooner, who is/was a protege of Wayne and who posted to me in the same language manner as did Wayne.

That's it, buddy.

If you feel good and it make your day that I responded to you after five weeks, then great,

I have full confidence in this Forum unlike Cappersmall, where my concerns were ignored, that I will get a fair

shake here in response to the manner in which you have accorded yourself toward me.

One way or the other, I am going to try my best by whatever means, to bring some finality and peace of mind to myself regarding

this 10 month entire matter between me and you!!

I am not going to respond to anything else you say in this thread in order to keep its integrity and purpose, but

rather will document it when I have my day in court!

ps for the record, if necessary I intend to take this entire matter not just to the moderators but Administration/Owners of the Forum.

Perhaps there are some of those at the top, who are not aware of your modus operandi and might be interested if I direct them to the threads

I have started and how you comport yourself and the manner in which you respond.

That's it.

I am going to back and stick with posting stuff in line to the title of the thread.

Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah

You play the victim role well. You stab people in the back and when they turn around and face you, your hands go up and you scream "It wasn't me"

You are nothing but a 75 year old crybaby and a liar. A compulsive liar. You cry non stop to mods at every forum you have been at and you are nothing but a hypocrite. Everything i said about you is true and posted at 2 other forums. Document THAT!
