In Friday’s unseasonal March sunshine, a group of sixth graders played baseball on the field at the Baptist Village in Petah Tikva. The sounds were no different than in any other game, with fielders on base shouting for the ball and batters excited at a solid hit. What was different was that out of the 28 kids on the field, 13 were Jewish kids from Modi’in and 15 were Arab kids from Ramle, participating in the Baseball for All (Baseball Le’Kulam) pilot program sponsored by the Israel Association of Baseball and Play Global.
While initially a little wary of each other, by the end of the two-day program, which aimed to bring together the group of non-baseball players and teach them how to play, new friendships were formed and more than a few stereotypes were broken.
“We wanted to unite kids from two different cultures, and give them a chance to build an understanding of each other while having fun and learning baseball,” says Nate Fish, IAB National Director, who conceived of the idea along with Tom Gillespie, head of the nonprofit organization Play Global, who traveled to Israel from Germany to launch this pilot program. Play Global is based in the United States and works internationally, running programs in developing countries and conflict areas, with the goal of helping kids learn skills for success, respect and teamwork through baseball.
All the participants were new to the game, and over the two days learned not only the fundamentals of the game, but also how to work and play together. “This is the first program the IAB has run that aims specifically to bring Arab and Jewish kids together,” notes Fish. “We gathered a great group of people including baseball coaches from Play Global and the IAB, and educators from the Jewish Israeli and Arab Israeli communities to teach the kids baseball, and to encourage them to form lasting friendships.”
“The most important thing in Baseball for All is to know the ‘other’ not as your enemy but rather a human being like you and to know how much we are all the same,” says Amal Abu-Sif, an educator who works with Arab and Jewish students, and one of the program’s developers.
Once the kids started getting the hang of baseball, they also started getting the hang of each other and friendships began to develop. “Jewish and Muslims together is more fun,” Giora, 11, from Modi’in, pronounced. Adam, 12, from Ramle, was enthusiastic about two things – the game of baseball and his new friend Sagi from Modi’in: “Sagi is now my best friend,” he enthused, giving the Modi’in 12-year-old a boyish hug.
For Lian, 12, from Ramle, the experience was eye-opening: “I learned not to judge anyone by how they look and rather to live together in co-existence and have fun together.”
Baseball for All will continue in June and in October.

CALGARY - A group of Canadian imams is condemning followers of the Islamic State as non-Muslims and "outsiders" to the faith.

Imam Syed Soharwardy and 37 other Muslim leaders from across the country have issued an Islamic edict called a fatwa against the militant group currently trying to attract supporters to its war in Syria and Iraq.

Soharwardy, the founder of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, said Wednesday the Islamic State is violating Muslim law. As a result, the group and anyone supporting them, will no longer be considered to be Muslim.

"They have been excommunicated from the Muslim community and those who will join them — they should be excommunicated from the Muslim community and they cannot be considered as Muslims at all," said Soharwardy.

The imams and Islamic scholars are from Vancouver, Montreal, Edmonton and Toronto and include representatives of the different sects within the Muslim religion, he said

"It's significant for those individuals who understand the opinions of the scholars need to be followed and because our fatwa is based on the teachings of the holy Qur'an and the teachings of the Prophet," said Soharwardy. "With evidence what kind of violations ISIL and ISIS has committed, that will put a lot of weight for people to be convinced that ISIL and ISIS is the wrong way to go."

He cited several acts that violate Islamic law, including capturing opponents and beheading them, killing Muslims who disagree with their actions, destroying mosques, burning enemy soldiers alive and encouraging Muslim girls to join them.

Soharwardy hopes the message gets out to young people who are most at risk of being recruited.

"We strongly urge every Muslim, especially the youth, not to be influenced by the speeches, songs and the literature available on the Internet or on social media produced by the impostors pretending to be Muslim," he said. "This is a trap for young Muslims."

Several Canadian youth have already gone to the Middle East to fight for the Islamic State. Ottawa's national security report said at the start of 2014 there were more than 130 individuals abroad and suspected of terror activities.

Earlier this year there were reports that six young men and women between 18 and 20 years old from the Montreal area left around mid-January and landed in Turkey, a well-known gateway to battlefields in Syria and Iraq.

Soharwardy also had harsh words for Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the federal government for equating ISIL followers with jihadists.

He said to Muslims that word simply means to struggle and using it might be leading to more sympathy for the terrorist group.

"These people use these words so loosely that it makes everybody push back to having sympathy for terrorist organizations," he said.

"So one of the factors in the rise of terrorism is because of this Islamophobia and because of the misuse of ... words by government officials."

CALGARY - A group of Canadian imams is condemning followers of the Islamic State as non-Muslims and "outsiders" to the faith.

Imam Syed Soharwardy and 37 other Muslim leaders.......

Imam Syed Soharwardy - Where Does He Stand?

CALGARY-TORONTO – “Presently, what Israeli forces are doing to Palestinians is worse than the Holocaust of the World War II…. So far, more than over [sic] a million Palestinians have been killed, millions of them have made refugees, and millions of them are in the concentration camps. The Israeli forces have converted Palestinian homes and areas into concentration camps.”

Those were the words of Imam Syed Soharwardy, who has been befriended by Calgary’s local Jewish community leaders and hailed in some media, including the National Post, for issuing an Islamic ruling prohibiting terrorism in North America. The fatwa expressed concern that such attacks would adversely affect the Muslim community.

In November Soharwardy was invited by the Calgary Jewish Community Council (JCC) to participate in an anti-hate rally following a slew of antisemitic vandalism in Calgary.

‘SAY NO TO HATE’
“We had an event when we were endorsing the Canadian values of respect for diversity and we felt it was very important to include the Muslim community,” Judy Shapiro, community relations director for the Calgary JCC, told the Jewish Tribune. “We thought it was very important that they be given the opportunity to endorse those values…and to say no to hate.”

Regarding Soharwardy’s participation in anti-Israel events, including a rally against Israel’s incursion into Gaza in January 2009 that included Hezbollah flags and swastikas as well as vitriolic antisemitic chanting, Shapiro said:

“Mr. Soharwardy is a very complex character and we believe in dialogue, in dialoguing with people you don’t always agree with…to educate people so that they change their behaviour…. That is the experience we have had with Mr. Soharwardy.”

She acknowledged that she “can’t say exactly what he believes and doesn’t believe” right now, but she pointed out that he has “removed offensive content from his web site…. I believe he has learned a great deal from our dialogue, and his actions do reflect that in some way.”

IMAM REMOVED CONTENT
As indicated, Soharwardy has removed substantial antisemitic content from his web site such as a vicious attack on the Jewish religion. However, B’nai Brith Canada acquired archived material from the web site thanks to conservative political activist and journalist Ezra Levant.

Shapiro sent a letter to Soharwardy on Dec. 8, “on behalf of [Calgary JCC President] Gerry Barron, Adam Singer [chair, community relations committee] and the board of the JCC,” thanking him for “supporting and endorsing the ‘Say No to Hate’ program on Nov. 26.

“For the Jewish community, it was comforting to see that we do not stand alone in our fight against antisemitism.”

“ONE NATION UNDER ALLAH” HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS OUTRAGED AFTER PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE RECITED IN ARABIC

I am so glad to hear that these New York High school students at Pine Bush took matters into their own hands and didn’t wait for national outrage to happen. They were outraged themselves and forced the school to not only back down, but apologize and pledge that it will never happen again:

FOX NEWS – Students at Pine Bush High School in Pine Bush, New York, knew right away there was something not quite right about the Pledge of Allegiance. That’s because the pledge was being recited in Arabic.

“One nation under Allah,” the student body president announced over the intercom system on Wednesday.

Reaction in the upstate New York high school was swift, and so was the backlash, The Times Herald-Record reports. Furious students tried to shout down the recitation in their classrooms. Other students sat down in protest.

School Superintendent Joan Carbone told the newspaper that the Arabic pledge “divided the school in half” – noting that many complaints came from Jewish parents and those who had lost family members fighting the war on terror.

The outrage among students was so significant that the school issued an apology.

“We sincerely apologize for having the Pledge of Allegiance recited this morning in the high school in a language other than English,” the apology read. “In our school district the Pledge of Allegiance will only be recited in English as recommended by the Commissioner of Education.”

Well, that’s somewhat reassuring.

[h=1]Horrific moment mob beats Afghan woman to death before burning her body and dumping it in a river because she set fire to a Koran[/h]
  • Dozens of men lynch woman after she was accused of burning the Koran
  • Shocking video has emerged of mob punching, kicking and stoning victim
  • Attack happened near Shah-e Doh Shamshira mosque in the heart of Kabul
  • Footage shows men striking 27-year-old with pieces of wood and bricks
  • Her parents insist she had suffered from mental illness for past 16 years
  • Kabul officials say four have been arrested in connection with the attack

This is the moment a woman was beaten to death by a mob before her body was set on fire and dumped in a muddy river in the heart of Afghanistan's capital.
Shocking video has emerged of crowds of men repeatedly stamping on the 27-year-old, named only as Farkhunda, near the Shah-e Doh Shamshira shrine and mosque in the heart of Kabul.
At one point, one of the attackers can be seen striking the woman with a piece of wood while another was filmed hurling a brick at her as she lay on the ground.

Some of the men stamped on the victim's limp body while others could be seen punching and kicking her.
Reports have emerged that her body was then taken to the Kabul river and burned. The mob carried out the lynching after she was accused of setting fire to pages of the Koran.

But her devastated parents have told Kabul police that their daughter had suffered with mental illness for many years and that she had not meant to burn Islam's holy book
The police did not comment immediately on any circumstances that might have led to the attack.
Officers had to move in to disperse angry crowds of 'thousands of people' in the area as the incident unfolded.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior confirmed four suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack on his official Twitter account.

Disturbing footage of the attack was posted on social media websites and shows other men filming with their mobile phones while it is taking place.
The BBC reports one eyewitness to the lynching as saying: 'I heard noise, I went and people said that a woman is burning Koran. When I went closer I saw angry people shouting they want to kill the woman.
'They beat her to death and then threw her on the river side and burned her. Firefighters later came and put out the fire and took the body.'
The head of Kabul's criminal police General Farid Afzali told AFP: 'A woman burned a copy of the Koran in the Shahi Doshamshira neighbourhood.'
The woman's body was then thrown into the Kabul River, Afzali added.
Reports have emerged that police had been trying to disperse the angry crowd of 'thousands of people' who had gathered in the densely populated neighbourhood.
Interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi also confirmed the incident, saying a probe into the 'very unfortunate' event was underway.

While Afghanistan is struggling to emerge from the suppression of women under Taliban rule that began in the 1990s, such public attacks, especially in the capital, remain ununsual.
Women's rights have made gains since the 2001 ousting of the militants, who follow a hardline interpretation of Islamic law, but observers worry that progress is at risk as widespread violence against women persists and women remain under-represented in politics and public life.
A 2013 U.N. report noted that most violence against women goes underreported, particularly in rural areas.
Local television news channel 1TV posted what appeared to be footage of the aftermath of the killing on its website and said the mob attacked the woman because she had burned pages from a Koran.
The family of the victim met the Kabul police's criminal investigation team, a security official said.
Human rights groups have raised concerns whether enough was done to stop the mob.
'I would certainly hope the government would be trying to arrest and prosecute everyone who was involved and doing an internal investigation into whether the police response was appropriate,' said Heather Barr, a senior researcher for women's rights in Asia for Human Rights Watch.

A Synagogue came under attack in London last night by an unknown group that smashed windows and had to be fought off with chairs. The incident is the latest incident in a string of anti-semitic attacks across Europe that have led many Jewish Europeans to consider fleeing to Israel.
The attack at Stamord Hill Synagogue involved a group trying to force their way in, they were repelled in the end but only after foul mouthed abuse was hurled at them. The video of the incident was uploaded to Social Media today, at the same time as another part of London saw self-styled “Kurdish Fighters” fight off a large group of Islamists who had gathered in Wood Green.
In scenes reminiscent of the fight for Kobani, Kurds ignored the inaction of Western authorities and sent radicals including Anjem Choudary packing. The Islamists had put up stands in the streets and were advocating Sharia Law (full report here).
The video of the Stamford Hill attack is below:

[ Ex-Muslim activist: Islam is NOT a religion of peace (but but but Guesser the gutter rat spammer says it is? ]

[h=1]Islam…Is Not a Religion of Peace’: Ex-Muslim Activist Calls for Major Reform of the Faith[/h] Mar. 23, 2015 8:26am Billy Hallowell
[h=2]160[/h] Shares

Activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Muslim-turned-atheist who is calling for major reforms to Islam, has never been shy about criticizing her former faith, proclaiming in an interview with ABC’s “This Week” that Islam is “not a religion of peace.”
“Islam, unreformed today, is not a religion of peace,” Ali said, going on to categorize modern-day Muslims into three groups: Medina believers, Mecca adherents or dissidents.
She said that Medina Muslims are those who apply “anything and everything” that Prophet Muhammad did after he immigrated to Medina.
“They apply the Koran literally,” Ali said, noting that the Islamic State and other extremist groups would fall under this umbrella.
She said that she believes Mecca Muslims account for the largest group and that its adherents are “peace loving,” with the dissidents working to try and convince the Mecca adherents to embrace positive changes within the faith.
Despite her atheism, Ali also defended her right, among other activists, to serve as a voice for reform.
“All of us who are born into Islam, the minute we start to criticize religion within we’re labeled heretics, apostates. We’re condemned to death,” she said. “Change is going to come from the heretics.”
Watch the interview below:
Ali, whose new book “Heretic: Why Islam Needs a Reformation Now” tackles this very subject, has been a fierce critic of her former faith for quite some time.
Controversy over her views led Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, to withdraw an honorary degree she was scheduled to receive during commencement last year — a decision she called “deplorable.”

[h=1]In Islam, they are all rotten apples’: Ex-Muslim’s call for religion’s reboot[/h] By Maureen Callahan

There was a time when author and activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali believed it all: that, according to Islam, the infidel should die, that the Quran is infallible, that those who violated sharia law — thieves, gays, adulterers — deserved to be stoned to death or beheaded, as they were each Friday in a public gathering place she and her brother called “Chop-Chop Square.”
Modal Trigger
books_hirsi_ali.jpg
Today, she is that rare thing: a public intellectual who, despite death threats and charges of bigotry, calls for an end to Islam — not just as the faithful know it, but as we in the West think we know it.
“The assumption is that, in Islam, there are a few rotten apples, not the entire basket,” Ali tells The Post. “I’m saying it’s the entire basket.”
In her book, “Heretic,” Ali argues for a complete reformation of Islam, akin to the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. Though her own education led her to reject Islam and declare herself an atheist, she believes that for the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims, there must be another way.
“If you are a child brought up to believe that Islam is a source of morality” — as she was, in Africa and Saudi Arabia — “the Muslim framework presents you with the Quran and the hijab. I don’t want to be cruel and say, ‘You grow up and you snap out of it.’ But maybe we who have snapped out of it have not done our best to appeal to those still in it,” she says.
[h=3]A “useless” label[/h] Modal Trigger

In “Heretic,” Ali says there are three kinds of Muslims. There are the violent, the reformers, and what she believes is the largest group — those who want to practice as they see fit and live peaceably but do not challenge the Quran, the Muslim world’s treatment of women and the LGBT community, or terrorist attacks committed in the name of Islam.
Yet she refuses to label this group as moderate. She believes they have done nothing to deserve it. “I’ve never believed in the word,” Ali says. “It’s totally useless. I think we’re in a time now where we demand answers from Muslims and say, ‘Whose side are you on?’ ”
Ali argues for five amendments to the faith. “Only when these five things are recognized as inherently harmful and when they are repudiated and nullified,” she writes, “will a true Muslim reformation have been achieved.”
Those five notions are:

  • The infallibility of the Prophet Muhammad and the literal interpretation of the Quran

  • The idea that life after death is more important than life on Earth

  • Sharia law

  • Allowing any Muslim to enforce ideas of right and wrong on another

  • Jihad, or holy war
Rejecting these ideas, some of which date to the 7th century, is a shocking proposition to the faithful.
“The biggest obstacle to change within the Muslim world,” Ali writes, “is precisely its suppression of the sort of critical thinking I am attempting here.”
[h=3]Dissent and die[/h] Ali has firsthand experience. In November 2004, after collaborating with the Dutch artist Theo van Gogh on the documentary “Submission” — which criticized the Muslim world’s abuse of women — van Gogh was shot to death by a Dutch-Moroccan Muslim. The assassin attempted to decapitate him and stabbed him in the chest, leaving a note affixed by the knife. It was a death threat against Ali.
‘“In no other modern religion is dissent still a crime, punishable by death.”’
- Ayaan Hirsi Ali
She was forced into seclusion and given a 24-hour security detail. Today, she lives with her husband and young son in the United States yet remains a target.
“In no other modern religion,” Ali writes, “is dissent still a crime, punishable by death.”
She knows the greatest criticism she faces is that she is Islamophobic, that she is accusing all Muslims of adhering to jihad, to abuse, to the establishment of a caliphate.
In the book, Ali cites a 2013 report by the Pew Research Center on Muslims’ beliefs. It found that in Pakistan, 75 percent think those who leave Islam should be put to death. In Bangladesh, 43 percent think so. In Iraq, 41 percent.
Those who believe sharia is the infallible word of God: 81 percent in Pakistan, 65 percent in Bangladesh and 69 percent in Iraq.
She also cites a 2007 Pew study that found that among 18- to 29-year-old American Muslims, 7 percent had favorable opinions of al Qaeda, and they were twice as likely as older Muslims to believe suicide bombings in the name of their religion were warranted.
[h=3]War of ideology[/h] Modal Trigger

This is where Ali thinks the Obama administration has failed.
President Obama “has acknowledged Islamophobia, which is the worst thing you can do for Muslims who are trying to turn things around,” she says. Whether it’s ISIS or al Qaeda or the Taliban or so-called lone wolves — such as the Boston Marathon bombers or the Charlie Hebdo attackers or the suicide bomber who blew up 15 Christians in Pakistan last week or the ISIS suicide bombing that left 137 fellow Muslims dead — when these people say they are killing in the name of true Islam, Ali says, believe them.
‘“He [Obama] has acknowledged Islamophobia, which is the worst thing you can do for Muslims who are trying to turn things around.”’
- Ayaan Hirsi Ali
She accepts that Obama’s administration is attempting a delicate balance — that to declare war on Islam is exactly what these fighters want — but says more can be done.
“Obama is saying, ‘Listen, Muslims, I’m on your side. I respect your beliefs, and I’d like you to help me fight these attacks committed in the name of your religion,’ ” Ali says. “He’s delivering, and they’re not.”
Western Europe, she says, is turning away from the threat of self-segregating Islamic immigrants at its grave peril. A 2009 study by the think tank Citivas found 85 operational sharia courts in Great Britain alone.
“I think with the Arab world, the West thinks we’re fighting an inferior enemy,” Ali says. “Look at the language we use: It’s jihad, it’s insurgency, it’s asymmetric.” Ali thinks the West, and the US especially, should look to the lessons of the Cold War and recognize we are waging a battle of ideas — that in 17 Muslim majority nations, the state religion is Islam.
“We did not say the Soviet system was morally equivalent to ours; nor did we proclaim that Soviet communism was an ideology of peace,” Ali writes. “In much the same way, we need to recognize that this is an ideological conflict that will not be won until the concept of jihad itself has been decommissioned.”

The greatest obstacle to an Islamic reformation is the diffuse nature of the religion itself. Unlike Catholicism, there is no leader, no papal equivalent to endorse or denounce jihad. In fact, there is no hierarchy of any kind, and any man who wishes can declare himself an imam.
Modal Trigger
the_end_of_faith.jpg
Meanwhile, groups such as ISIS, al Qaeda and the Taliban are successful precisely because they have top-down leadership, codified warfare and an explicit, simple goal. “These groups are adapting to modern technology, to modern innovations in organization and management,” Ali says. “They know that without a hierarchy, human beings understand nothing.”
She is gratified by the stance taken by Sam Harris, a prominent American neuroscientist and author of “The End of Faith.”
“Sam realizes that among religions, Islam is unique in its atrocity, that everything we said about [violence in] Christianity and Judaism was hundreds of years ago. He calls Islam ‘the mother lode of bad ideas,’ which is extremely brave,” she says.
With “Heretic,” Ali is calling on those Muslims who reject jihad, acts of terror, and the subjugation of women and infidels to organize, to challenge, to speak out loudly and often against violence committed in the name of Allah — and she is calling on the West to actively demand it.
“This is a transformation of the West as we know it,” she says. “We’re at the beginning, and what we do right now is going to be consequential.”

Continuing her journey from a deeply religious Islamic upbringing to a post at Harvard, the brilliant, charismatic and controversial New York Times and Globe and Mail #1 bestselling author of Infideland Nomad makes a powerful plea for a Muslim Reformation as the only way to end the horrors of terrorism, sectarian warfare and the repression of women and minorities.

Today, she argues, the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims can be divided into a minority of extremists, a majority of observant but peaceable Muslims and a few dissidents who risk their lives by questioning their own religion. But there is only one Islam and, as Hirsi Ali shows, there is no denying that some of its key teachings—not least the duty to wage holy war—are incompatible with the values of a free society.

For centuries it has seemed as if Islam is immune to change. But Hirsi Ali has come to believe that a Muslim Reformation—a revision of Islamic doctrine aimed at reconciling the religion with modernity—is now at hand, and may even have begun. The Arab Spring may now seem like a political failure. But its challenge to traditional authority revealed a new readiness—not least by Muslim women—to think freely and to speak out.

Courageously challenging the jihadists, she identifies five key amendments to Islamic doctrine that Muslims have to make to bring their religion out of the seventh century and into the twenty-first. And she calls on the Western world to end its appeasement of the Islamists. “Islam is not a religion of peace,” she writes. It is the Muslim reformers who need our backing, not the opponents of free speech.

Interweaving her own experiences, historical analogies and powerful examples from contemporary Muslim societies and cultures, Heretic is not a call to arms, but a passionate plea for peaceful change and a new era of global toleration. In the wake of the Charlie Hebdo murders, with jihadists killing thousands from Nigeria to Syria to Pakistan, this book offers an answer to what is fast becoming the world’s number one problem.

[ Nice friendly Muslims want female genital mutilation of 2 million girls. What a nice thing, very friendly. What a nice peaceful religion. ]

[h=2]ISIS leader demands female genital mutilation of 2 million girls[/h]
Jan 26, 2015 by Eliyokim Cohen in MIDDLE EAST & WORLD Mosul – A Jihadist leader associated with the militant Islamist group ISIS — the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham — has ordered that all women aged from 11 to 46 years in Iraq undergo female genital mutilation (FGM), according to a UN spokeswoman.

The United Nations second-in-command in Iraq, Jacqueline Badcock, speaking from the Kurdish provincial capital of Irbil, told reporters during a videoconference organized in Geneva that Islamists in control of the Iraqi city of Mosul had issued a fatwa or edict asking all families around Iraq’s northern city of Mosul to circumcise daughters within the specified ages or face severe punishment.Ms Badcock, the UN’s resident and humanitarian coordinator in Iraq, said“The practice,” said Ms. Badcock, “is something very new for Iraq… and does need to be addressed.”
“This is not the will of Iraqi people, or the women of Iraq in these vulnerable areas covered by the terrorists,” she added.
According to International Business Times, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, leader of the self-declared Islamic State, ordered the female genital mutilation of 2 million Iraqi girls seeking to justify the fatwa as being in order to “distance them from debauchery and immorality.”
Al-Baghdadi is believed to have been born in Samarra, Iraq in 1971. According to his Wikipedia entry, he’s been named the Caliph — head of state and theocratic absolute monarch — of the self-proclaimed Islamic State located in western Iraq and north-eastern Syria. Reports suggest that Al-Baghdadi was an imam at around the time of the US-led 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Ahmed Obaydi, a spokesman of Mosul Police, told Kurdistan-based BasNews,“Baghdadi’s decision to have all women circumcised is, as he claims, to prevent immorality and promote Islamic attitudes among Muslims. The decision was made by Baghdadi as a ‘gift’ for people in Mosul.”
But civil activist Asil Jamal, quoted by the same news outlet, was more forthright, commenting,“When ISIS was first arriving in Mosul, people were warmly welcoming them, but as a result of ISIS’ horrendous wishes, especially forced female circumcision, it is becoming clear for people that these ISIS militants don’t know anything else except torture.”
FGM or the ritual cutting of girls’ and women’s’ genitalia is widely practised across large swathes of Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The practice has come in for strong criticism, not just from the United Nations, but also human rights and women’s rights groups.
In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling on all states to ban the practice but despite widespread condemnation, women in a number of countries have continued to suffer this barbaric practice…
