The father-in-law of a young Afghan woman who said her nose and ears were sliced off at gun-point to punish her for running away from her violent Taliban fighter husband has been arrested.
The 20-year-old woman, simply known as Aisha, gained worldwide attention when she appeared on the August 9 cover of Time magazine.
And now - against the odds - the man who committed the horrific disfigurement has been tracked down and being held in jail in Uruzgan province, the Afghan Interior Ministry said today.
Under orders from a Taliban commander acting as a judge, she was disfigured last year as punishment for fleeing her husband's home.
Just 18 years old at the time, Aisha said she ran away from the small village to escape her in-laws' beatings and abuse.
A child bride, Aisha was captured and returned to the village, where her husband, father-in-law and brother-in-law carried out the mutilation, after approval by the local Taliban mullah.

Aisha’s father-in-law, Sulaiman, 'pointed a gun at her head while the other men, his sons, sliced off her nose', alleged Brigadier General Juma Gul Himat.

'Sulaiman then took her amputated nose and proudly showed it off around the village.'
Under orders from a Taliban commander acting as a judge, she was disfigured last year as punishment for fleeing her husband's home.

Left for dead, she said, she then fled to the safety of a women’s shelter in Kabul run by Women for Afghan Women, which publicised her plight a year later.
Thanks to support from aid groups and the American Embassy in Kabul, and the charity of a hospital in Southern California, Aisha was whisked off to the United States for reconstructive surgery - though there was little hope of finding the perpetrators.
In September, she was fitted with a temporary, prosthetic nose so she could visualise what she would look like and to help build her confidence.
It is rare for the police in Afghanistan to intervene when local villagers impose punishments for social crimes, even severe ones such as flogging and stoning, which are allowed under Sharia law, the legal code of Islam based on the Koran.

There is no Sharia law provision, however, for cutting off nose and ears of a runaway child bride.
'This is against Afghan-ism, against Afghan and Shariah laws, against every principle in the world, against humanity, so that’s why we wanted to bring him to justice,' said General Himat.
'He made a big mistake,' the general said. 'He disfigured a creature of God, and he was proud of what he had done.'

District police chief Mohammed Gul said: 'It would have taken 100 armored vehicles to go in there to that village.'
Sooner or later, though, everyone in the area goes to the bazaar in the Chora district, in south-central Oruzgan Province.

And when Sulaiman showed up, the police were waiting.
According to Mr Gul’s account, the suspect spotted the police at the same time as they spotted him, and made a run for it.

Officers chased him on foot and ran him down after a mile and a quarter, he said.
Mr Sulaiman, who like many Afghans has one name, confessed to participating in the disfigurement.
Aisha is now living in Brooklyn, New York, while she gets treatment for emotional problems from her ordeal.

Doctors at the Grossman Burn Foundation in California said they felt that was necessary before she could have reconstructive surgery there, according to Manizha Naderi, the head of Women for Afghan Women, which has offices in Brooklyn and Kabul.

So far, Aisha has been given a prosthetic nose as a temporary measure.
'She’s not coming back to Afghanistan to testify,' Mrs Naderi said. 'We won’t put Aisha in danger like this.

'Nobody will guarantee her security in Afghanistan if she comes back.'

Faleh Hassan Almaleki convicted of second-degree murder for running over and killing his daughter in a case prosecutors called an `honor killing.'

PHOENIX – A jury convicted an Iraqi immigrant of second-degree murder Tuesday for running over and killing his daughter in a case prosecutors called an `honor killing.'
Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 50, also was convicted of aggravated assault for injuries suffered by the mother of his daughter's boyfriend during the October 2009 incident in a suburban Phoenix parking lot.
Prosecutors told jurors during the trial that he mowed down 20-year-old Noor Almaleki with his Jeep Cherokee because she had brought the family dishonor by becoming too Westernized. He wanted Noor Almaleki to act like a traditional Iraq woman, but she refused an arranged marriage, went to college and had a boyfriend.
Defense lawyers called Noor's death and the severe injuries to Amal Khalaf an accident. They say he only wanted to spit on the older woman, who Almaleki thought helped his daughter stay away from her family. Khalaf had taken Noor in several times after she left home between 2007 and 2009, and that was a cause of increasing friction between the families.
A detective testified that Almaleki acknowledged under questioning by police that he intentionally ran her over. But the transcript of the taped interview showed he repeatedly called the incident an accident. Khalaf also testified during the four-week trial, saying he ignored her screams to stop before he struck her and then ran down Noor.

The defense called no witnesses. They argued for a lesser charge, saying Almaleki made a split-second decision that he should be held accountable for but that he did not intend to kill anyone.
The incident happened on Oct. 20, 2009, outside a state Department of Economic Security office in the west Phoenix suburb of Peoria. Noor had gone with Khalaf to interpret and the women were waiting to be helped when Faleh Almaleki came into the office.
He left after a short time, and Khalaf said she was worried he might do something violent toward Noor, so she drove around the parking lot to make sure he had left. She testified that she was so nervous, she locked her keys in her van and had to call her son to bring another set.
They left the office to go to a nearby restaurant when the Jeep bore down on the women.
Almaleki fled to Mexico and then London, where he was detained and then returned to the U.S.

Acid blinding sentence of Iranian man postponed

The blinding of an Iranian student by having acid dripped into his eyes has been reportedly postponed, just hours before the punishment was due to be carried out.

The procedure was planned for Tehran at midday on Saturday in the presence of Ameneh Bahrami, the young woman he attacked and blinded, under a sentence called qesas (retribution in kind) imposed by a court in 2009.

She had demanded that the blinding be carried out after her university classmate Majid Movahedi threw a bucket of acid over her when she spurned his repeated offers of marriage. The punishment had been due to be carried out at the judiciary hospital in Tehran, under the supervision of a doctor and with representatives of the coroners' office and the prosecution present.

Miss Bahrami, who now lives in Spain, was 24 when she first met Mr Movahedi in Iran.

She has undergone several operations which have failed to restore her sight, and is still badly disfigured from the attack. She recently said she was prepared to blind Mr Movahedi herself.

"I've suffered so much in these years but now I am really happy," Miss Bahrami said in an interview with an Iranian newspaper.

"The verdict is completely legal and I would like to carry it out. But if it is not possible, then the physician designated by the judiciary will do it," she said.
She has argued that carrying out the sentence will spare other Iranian women from suffering acid attacks by men.
"I still strongly stand with the carrying out of the qesas. I want qesas. I will become more serene," she said a few days ago.
"This serenity will not stem from the culprit suffering hardship and pain but that (with the carrying out of the sentence) there is the probability of more deterrence regarding those who want to commit this crime."
The human rights group Amnesty International had called for the sentence to be cancelled. "Regardless of how horrific the crime suffered by Ameneh Bahrami, being blinded with acid is a cruel and inhuman punishment amounting to torture," a spokesman said.
The Iranian INSA news agency reported on its website early on Saturday that the sentence had been postponed, without giving a reason why.

Evil words in Islamic Republic: A senior Iranian cleric, who is known as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's spiritual mentor, urged followers to continue suicide attacks against Israelis, including children.
Ayatollah Mohammad Taghi Mesbah, considered one of the Islamic Republic's most radical clerics, issued a religious edict on his website whereby suicide attacks are not only legitimate but are a must for every Muslim, a special paper by the Middle East Media Research Institute shows.

The senior cleric was responding to a question from a follower regarding the difference between "martyr's death" and "suicide." The man, who wrote anonymously, noted that "some people say that martyrdom operations are considered suicide and that they are haram (forbidden) because they contradict Islam."

In response, Mesbah expressed his regret that his follower has fallen victim to "propaganda of the enemies of Islam." He added that the follower was wasting his time instead of focusing on "uprooting the Zionist regime."
"When protecting Islam, the Muslim people depend on martyrdom operations. It not only is allowed, but even is an obligation," Mesbah wrote.
The follower presented another question regarding Islam's position on harming Israelis, wondering whether Hamas and Jihad actions against Israeli civilians are forbidden. He also asked: "How about the Israeli children killed in such attacks?"

The Iranian Ayatollah did not see fit to forbid the killing of children, only noting that Israelis can be harmed unless they openly express their objection to their government's position. He added that even in such cases, harming civilians is permissible if "they are used as human shield and fighting the aggressors depends on attacking those civilians."
Beyond these insights, the cleric did not offer further instructions and failed to censure the killing of children.
Notably, for the followers of Mesbah, his words are considered as a binding religious edict. On several occasions in the past, Iranian President Ahmadinejad also spoke in favor of "martyrdom acts."

Casino Ejects Woman In Muslim Garb

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - A Muslim woman says she was embarrassed when given a difficult choice at Caesars Atlantic City last weekend: take off the traditional face covering that only shows her eyes or leave the casino.
Tanya Grooms-Butler says she was waiting in a casino restaurant at Caesar's Atlantic City while her husband was gambling, when she was given an ultimatum by one of the security guards.
Grooms-Butler says the security guard never produced a policy, never explained why she'd have to make that choice, but the casino tells a different story.
The casino issued a statement saying that security is of the utmost concern, if they can't see someone's face clearly they must be able to provide some sort of identification to prove they are 21 years or older.
Grooms-Butler maintains she was embarrassed by the whole incident and she was offended by the casino's actions.
But she also concedes there are places where covering her face, even if for religious reasons is not appropriate.
The casino stands by its action saying they can't tell if someone is old enough to be there if they can't see their face or check their identification.
Grooms-Butler says she was embarrassed and won't be going back.

A jealous husband is facing life in prison after chopping off his wife's fingers because she began studying for a degree without his permission.
Rafiqul Islam, 30, blindfolded his wife Hawa Akhter, 21, and taped her mouth, telling her he was going to give her a surprise present.
Instead he made her hold out her hand and cut off all five fingers. One of his relatives then threw Ms Akhter's fingers in the dustbin to ensure doctors could not reattach them.

Hawa Akhter has said she will continue her studies, despite the horrific attack


Mr Islam, who is a migrant worker in the United Arab Emirates, had warned his wife there would 'severe consequences' if she did not give up her studies.
'After he came back to Bangladesh, he wanted to have a discussion with me,' Ms Akhter told The Times.
'Suddenly, he blindfolded me and tied my hand. He also taped my mouth saying that he would give me some surprise gifts. But, instead he cut off my fingers.'

Mohammed Saluddin, the Bangladesh police chief said that Mr Islam had confessed after he was arrested in the capital, Dhaka, and will face charges of permanent disfiguration.
Human rights groups are demanding life imprisonment.
'He was enraged. He was jealous because while he only had a grade eight standard education, she was off to college to pursue higher studies,' said Mr Saluddin.
Ms Akhter says she is learning to write with her left hand and is determined to resume her studies. She is now back at her parent's house.

The attack is the latest in a series of acts targeting educated women in the Muslim-majority company.
In June, an unemployed man gouged out the eyes of his wife, an assistant professor at Dhaka University, apparently because he could not stand her pursuing higher studies at a Canadian University.

There is a very key difference that you are missing.

Christ *never* even came close to espousing violence and/or killing to further his cause - or any cause. The so-called Christians who did use violence in the past
were going against Christ and the New Testament.

Diametrically opposed to that is Islam, Mohammad and the Koran. The Koran demands violence against the non-Muslims. Mohammad was a
blood-thirsty murderer (and a pedophile). Islam will not evolve out of violence and killing, because it was birthed in violence, and has

A baby born to a Muslim mother after an affair must be adopted to prevent the child becoming the victim of an honour killing, the Court of Appeal ruled today.
The baby's mother, who is not married, was so 'terrified' of how her family would react that after becoming pregnant she ran away from home.
She then concealed her pregnancy by wearing loose clothes and travelling to the other side of town for her antenatal care.

As soon as the baby - known only as Q - was born the mother gave her up for adoption.
Upholding a High Court decision, three judges ruled that Q's father could not have his daughter to live with him because of the risk the baby's maternal grandfather would track her down.
Instead, Q, who is now a year old, will be adopted.

The baby's maternal grandmother had told police that if her husband found out about the child 'he would consider himself honour-bound to kill the child, the mother, the grandmother herself and the grandmother’s other children'.
Today Lord Justice Munby, Lady Justice Black and Lord Justice Kitchin said in a joint ruling that the child was at risk if she was not adopted.
They said if the grandfather discovered the affair 'it would be a matter of intense almost unimaginable shame to him and his family'.

There is a very key difference that you are missing.

Christ *never* even came close to espousing violence and/or killing to further his cause - or any cause. The so-called Christians who did use violence in the past
were going against Christ and the New Testament.

Diametrically opposed to that is Islam, Mohammad and the Koran. The Koran demands violence against the non-Muslims. Mohammad was a
blood-thirsty murderer (and a pedophile). Islam will not evolve out of violence and killing, because it was birthed in violence, and has
ALWAYS grown with violence, and always will be filled with violence.

Because, I repeat, it's book and founders set the example, and require it.

You may be right, but you could be wrong on that too, not on the facts of Islam , but the possibility of a reformation period. So far in US with Muslims in America it seems it may be possible. A Muslim man who punched a nurse for trying to remove his wife's burqa during childbirth has been jailed in France.
Nassim Mimoune, 24, had already been expelled from the delivery room for branding the midwife a 'rapist' as she carried out an intimate examination of his wife.
Then through a window he spotted the nurse taking off his wife's burqa as she prepared to give birth.
He smashed open the locked door and hit the woman in the face, demanding she replace the full Islamic face veil.
As his wife delivered a baby boy, Mimoune was ejected from the building by security men from the hospital in Marseille and arrested for assault.
A judge in the southern French port jailed Mimoune for six months on Wednesday, telling him: 'Your religious values are not superior to the laws of the republic.'
