Edder doesnt wail he moans. There is a difference.
Rollong Stone disagrees...#7 best lead singer of all time

In 1990 Eddie Vedder was working at a gas station when his buddy Jack Irons gave him a demo tape of a Seattle band searching for a new singer. While surfing, Vedder came up with lyrics for the three songs and sent the tape back to the band with his contributions. They were blown away and Vedder was soon asked to join what became Pearl Jam. One of the songs on that tape, "Alive," was blaring out of countless bedrooms across America within about a year. Since then Vedder has become one of the most imitated singers in rock, but nobody has come close to matching his ferocious wail.

Rolling Stone gets a lot wrong. He moans, he coos and he yells some, he doesn't wail. Sorry bud, love the band but the guy has absolutely no range which is the mark of a truly talented singer. Not saying he isnt an amazing song writer or frontman but the guy just doesnt have any ridiculous vocal abilities compared to guys like Cornell, or say Dio or even buttrocker Sebastian Bach. Even if you don't enjoy those guys music their range is impossible to ignore. Meanwhile Hootie probably could have fronted Pearl Jam for an album and nobody would have noticed the difference.

Prove a quote from the rolling stone agreeing with the members of Pearl Jam that he is the best doesnt necessarily make it true.

I thought Nirvana was a hugely overrated band. Thought their music plain sucked and as a hardcore kid growing up in the NYHC scene it was always funny watching these guys at shows stage diving and stuff. We used to have the grunge kids come into our shows with their long hair and flannels and they would get absolutely destroyed lol.

I did like Pearl Jam a little bit as they actually had some talent but the rest of the scene I just didnt like.

Not surprising,, East Coasters didn't get the grunge scene like people out West..think part of it was jealousy that the music didn't come out of the big apple and instead the center of the music universe was in Seattle.. Probably the most successful MTV unplugged album of all time though was out of NYC with Nirvana unplugged.. At least you have that... Didn't see anyone get destroyed in that show !

I get you didn't like Nirvana and thought they were overrated.. But the masses disagree with you.. Nirvana's music still sounds fresh today.. Its all about your own musical tastes.. The masses disagree with me when I say the Eagles were overrated.. I don't have a problem with everyone disagreeing with me..I base that on the music sounds old, tired, and worn out today. It hasn't stood the test of time..

Actually I do like a number of their albums. I am just calling it accurately though as in technical prowess, Kurt was barely an average guitarist. Even some of his biggest fans would admit that. This does not take away from the music itself, it just focuses on the technicalities of it.

I actually agree with you, the Eagles are quite overrated as well!

As bad as grunge and the whole Seattle sound sucked...... I cannot believe people still remember that crap still. Just reading here where people talk about Eddie Vedder as if he is anything but the worst sort of hack makes my brain bleed. Truly awful stuff. At least Cobain sounded slightly authentic...... the rest of it was just pure unadulterated crap.

I'm sure your musical tastes are quite a bit above the rest of us

I gotta say once again that I love Pearl Jam and especially the Ten album(not grunge at all) and even like, no love the Into the Wild soundtrack by Eddie Vedder but IMO he isnt half the singer or guitarist Kurt was. I agree that Kurt wasnt the most technical guitarist but he did play clean and some of his songs the guitar riffs went against the vocal melody which takes a lot of skill to perform live. Vedder has been playing guitar for over 20 years at least and he still basically just harmonizes over open chords while doing his best Hootie. Love him but he is not a unique snowflake.

Seen the 4 song Nirvana set several times on HBO... amazingly fantastic.
St Vincent, aka Annie Clark singing Lithium blew my mind.
For that matter all the gals performing the lead singing were damn good.

In related news to Kurt Cobain, has anyone seen the film, "Soaked In Bleach" - 2014?
Reveals the events behind Kurt Cobain's death as seen through the eyes of Tom Grant, the private investigator that was hired by Courtney Love in 1994 to track down her missing husband (Kurt Cobain) only days before his deceased body was found at their Seattle home. Cobain's death was ruled a suicide by the police (a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound), but doubts have circulated for twenty years as to the legitimacy of this ruling, especially due to the work of Mr. Grant, a former L.A. County Sheriff's detective, who did his own investigation and determined there was significant empirical and circumstantial evidence to conclude that foul play could very well have occurred. The film develops as a narrative mystery with cinematic re-creations, interviews with key experts and witnesses and the examination of official artifacts from the 1994 case.
