Ever since the Big Lebowski came out it somehow became acceptable to say the Eagle's suck. I sir will not stand for it :p

Grunge. The early '90s generation answer to cock-rock from the '80s/late '70s. To each generation their own. Hated Nirvana myself but I didn't hold it against anyone who loved it. The music must change.
Pretty much the way I feel. Although it is a generational thing. But I would still like to have heard just one band who came out of the gunge era who fronted somebody who could sing. This generation seems to tolerate bad to mediocre vocals much more than my generation did. Starting with the punk movement. I just don't get it. But I don't get all the love for this new singer Lorde either. After hearing her sing "Royals" on the Grammy's, I don't get all of the fuss. I guess sparse angst-driven music is much much different these days than what it used to be. But it seems like a huge step down from the 60's and 70's.

Don't remember the quote, but will try not to step on your toes with the Eagles in the future.. NO doubt a HOF band, they just didn't strike a cord with me.. I'm sure some HOF bands haven't appealed to you in the past...

Funny you mention Lorde,,, she was one of the female vocalists that sang a Nirvana song at the RRHOF.. ( All Apologies ) The grunge era might not have had the so called perfect singers,, but those lead singers from Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Alice & Chains had there own distinctive sound and voice...Would Johnny Mathis or Neil Diamond have worked for those bands and that kind of music ?

Pat Boone did a heavy metal album one time. He actually didn't sound half bad doing the metal covers in a big band sort of way. Paul Anka also did a halfway decent cover of Black Hole Sun. This generation would probably be surprised at how well the contrast works between smooth vocals and heavy metal. Much better than you might think. Cream was a pretty good example of it. Jack Bruce had some pretty smooth vocals back when he was young.

Me too LOL. I actually like Pearl Jam a lot, but he is not an amazing singer. He has no real range.

Dude has a great voice. You must not listen to much PJ.

He can sing but he doesnt have much range unless you count his falsetto hoots and coos which doesnt really count. I absolutely love Pearl Jam, doesn't mean he was a great singer though. Even if you dont like his particular vocal style Kurt had way more range than Eddie ever did.

I thought Nirvana was a hugely overrated band. Thought their music plain sucked and as a hardcore kid growing up in the NYHC scene it was always funny watching these guys at shows stage diving and stuff. We used to have the grunge kids come into our shows with their long hair and flannels and they would get absolutely destroyed lol.

I did like Pearl Jam a little bit as they actually had some talent but the rest of the scene I just didnt like.

Yeah they were a great rock band, them getting grouped in with the other bands named is just sloppy labeling in my opinion. There wasnt much Grungy about them, a lot of TEN was straight metal. Same can be said about Sound Garden really, Badmotorfinger was closer to Sabbath than it was to Mudhoney.
