A lot of the same reasons that Christians believe what is in the bible is true.
No one living was around when everything happened. The Bible was was a limited selection of Books about Jesus of Nazarath many books which didn't help the Romans in there efforts for a church were omitted. Everything in the new testament is what roman emperor constantine approved. Also considering no one outside of the Church was allowed to read the bible until Luther who knows what changes have been made since then?
