I think he was just trying to make a joke but he's too stupid/socially awkward to really pull it off. So he just came off like an ass. And yeah, it isn't about PC but just about treating another person with respect.
This is his 7th year in the league, he's been getting questions from female reporters for awhile now so I really doubt he was that taken aback by her question.
The fact of the matter is, many of these athletes that society puts on this huge pedestal, are just not very bright.
