Ancic was slightly disappointing in the clay season, but kicked off his grass campaign yesterday in style with a tough but cruisy win over veteran Lapentti. The Croatian has the ideal game for the grass (was the last guy to beat Federer on grass) and will see himself a nice outsider for Wimbledon and events such as this one, and has the serving and net game in his favour against Verdasco here. The Spaniard was under a right leg injury cloud going into his match with Lee yesterday after receiving treatment at the end of his French Open campaign, but it was his opponent the South Korean who retired when trailling 3-5 in the opening set. He has a fairly good record on the grass that is conjucive to his heavy baseline hitting, however he is fairly one-dimensional in that respect and relies solely on as well as his speed around the court. He has an average serve, rarely ventures to net despite doubles success with the Spanish Davis Cup team, and is a nervous wreck when in front in his matches. Ancic is the ultimate professional most of the time, and if he can grab enough of his break point chances he should stroll to victory.
