Never in doubt !

Doubles matches was insane ... Murray and Lapentti lost the first set and won second one ... so they led 7:3 in the decider then I was looking at the Monaco match and guess what ? I look back and they are down 7:9 and their opponents have 2 matchpoints ! I was about to smash my laptop ... BOOM Murray/Lapentti win 4 points in a row for 11:9 . INSANE!

WOW 3 wins in a row and China isnt looking bad with 2 : 0 lead

RTD : 53-49 + 117.24 units

Preview by andre

The United States have a very easy first round match against Germany. So easy that they told the Williams sisters to stay at home and it will be the veteran Lindsay Davenport to once again lead the team to another win. Making her Fed Cup debut will be Ashley Harkleroad, a well deserved prize for her good results in the last months. The German team comes to this match leaded by Malek, who is in terrible shape and who has never had good results at WTA level outside clay.

So, let's talk about this match between Harkleroad and Malek. The American player could be nervous for her Fed Cup debut, but Davenport will trounce Lisicki before this match, so Harkleroad will enter the court knowing that her country is already leading the tie. Harkleroad is 7-3 this season, with good wins over Top 50 players like Emilie Loit or Meilen Tu. Also a win a straight sets win over Sorana Cirstea, who defeated Jelena Jankovic yesterday is a good sign of her good shape right now. This game will be played on outdoor hard, the same surface where Harkleroad is getting these good results. Also a big and noisy crowd will be in the court, so Harkleroad is smart enough to understand that the one who has the pressure in here is Malek, especially with the Germany already trailing 0-1 in the tie.

Tatjana Malek is only 20 years old and her experience at this level is zero. She is 1-3 this season and all her wins were big beatdowns (6:4 6:2 vs Vaidisova; 6:1 6:2 vs Cibulkova; 6:2 6:2 vs Shvedova). Also these last three defeats were the last three matches she has played, so her confidence should be close to zero right now. Malek is just 2-9 outside clay on matches played outside clay, showing that she isn't prepared for such high level, as this match would require from her, in order to make Harkleroad struggle in here.

With the United States already winning the tie by 1-0, Harkleroad will be confident and she will play with 3000 people screaming her name and waving American flags. On the other side, Malek will have a lot of responsibilities on her shoulders and as she is lacking confidence right now, I can see only see a German disaster in here. I can't see nothing in here but a routine straight sets win for Harkleroad.

Agree with almost anything andre said . Harkleroad gets W here .

Now my opinion about the finals in China .

Crowd favourite Danai Udomchoke meets Bjorn Rehnquist today . Udomchoke has yet to drop a set in this tournament with a solid 2 sets win in the last round against a big server from Australia Chris Guccione .
His opponent lost 2 sets in this tournament but I have to say there were no opponents you would run to your mom and brag about beating them .
Bjorn beat David Guez 6:4 1:6 6:1 in the 1/2 and that way the only person he beat here you could talk about , everybody else has terrible records and plays in CH tournaments all the time .
My prediction is straight sets win for Udomchoke because he is a higher level than his opponent and has more ATP experience .

After thinking a bit I decided to place this wager for max limit at 5dimes .

2 February

Movistar Open Doubles

Start time : 1:00PM (EST)

N.Lapentti/J.Murray vs J.Acasuso/S.Prieto

My pick is J.Acasuso/S.Prieto to win

3.75 units to win 2.5 units at 5dimes

Looking at the stats of Lapentti/Murray I have to say they will need to break their opponents because Murray is not very likely to hold his serve a lot in the match . Guy is a good doubles player however he really does suck on clay courts . They had a lot of trouble in their 2 previous matches where they had to play in the deciding set especially yesterday when their opponents had 2 matchpoints . Both of the teams they had to play had horrible doubles records or none at all because both teams were built of two singles players .
Today they meet Acasuso and Prieto who won this tournament in 2006 and who still have a perfect record here in Vina Del Mar . They have a 36-15 record when playing together and especially 28-6 record on clay courts ! They got to 5 doubles finals and won two of them . Both players like the courts here and dont have problems with playing on red dirt like here in Chile which I cant really say about their opponents . Acasuso lost in the singles competition so we can be sure he is going to be fully motivated to keep a perfect record in doubles tournament here and is highly possible if they take advantage of Jamie Murray who isnt very comfortable playing on clay courts .

WOW ! Both italians got slapped today by spanish girls and odds were like 4.00 on Spain to beat Italy :ohno:

Just like I predicted Lapentti and Murray got broken 3 times in that match and every time it was Murrays serve , guess Chucho and Prieto read my post and knew what they have to do :tongue2:

My pick is J.Husarova/A.Garrigues to win

Odds : 2.41

2 units to win 2.82 units at 5dimes

  • Worried a little bit about Kvitova vs Garrigues match . Kvitova has very nice record but most of her opponents are unknown , she beat Pironkova and Bremond in straight sets in Qualies so this makes me think she has a solid game . Garrigues with awesome performance in the Fed Cup beating both Pennetta and Schiavone pretty easily in 2 sets only giving her opponents 5 games each so I will back her here against unexperienced player .

  • Petrova is a headcase but K.Bondarenko looked horrible in the Fed Cup in her own country and was lucky to win one of her singles matches . Just cant see Petrova not beating a player like Kateryna in a form like that .

  • Doubles match is huge experience for Husarova and Garrigues who arent regular partners but both are good doubles players with many won titles .Kleybanova has a good doubles record with 56-16 but most of the wins are from ITF .
