Broncos officials see Tebow as fourth best QB in camp

A rough month in the development of Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is about to get a little rougher.

Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports got some some eye-opening quotes from various members of the Broncos organization that will make waves in Denver.

“If everything was totally equal, and this were a competition based only on performance at this camp, Tebow would probably be the fourth-string guy,” one source told Silver. “Kyle [Orton] is far and away the best, and Tebow’s way behind [Brady] Quinn, too. And I’m telling you, Adam Weber is flat-out better right now.”

Weber, an undrafted rookie, has no chance to actually pass Tebow on the depth chart. But Weber has looked impressive when given the chance, and Tebow is struggling to work under center or grasp a pro offense.

One Broncos executive says to, “Forget about how [Tebow] delivers the ball, or how accurate it is. First he has to know where to go with it.”

We’re getting to the point that this feels like piling on. It seems clear Tebow has a long way to go, and this Broncos staff may never fully embrace him as the answer. They see him as a project.

Silver confirms the Broncos were willing to trade Kyle Orton to the Dolphins for a third-round pick in late July. Receiver Brandon Lloyd called it a “relief” when Orton stayed put.

“Sometimes the best things that happen to you in life are the things that don’t happen,” one high-ranking official told Silver.

The usual caveats apply. Tebow was always supposed to take time. Through hard work, the Broncos think perhaps he could improve enough to start.

Maybe Tebow will be a succesful starter someday, in Denver or elsewhere. If that happens, we’ll hear a lot about how Tebow proved the “haters” wrong and overcame some low moments in his career.

It’s hard to imagine it will get much lower than being called the fourth-best quarterback on the Broncos, by the Broncos.

Boomer Esiason: Tim Tebow can’t play, can’t throw

Move aside, Merril Hoge. You now have competition as Tim Tebow’s harshest critic.

Boomer Esiason, the former Bengals quarterback and current CBS analyst, says Tebow has no business being an NFL quarterback, and just because Tebow was successful at Florida, that’s no reason to think he’ll ever be any good with the Broncos.

“He can’t play. He can’t throw,” Esiason said, via Mike McCarthy of USA Today. “I’m not here to insult him. The reality is he was a great college football player, maybe the greatest college football player of his time. But he’s not an NFL quarterback right now. Just because he’s God-fearing, and a great person off the field, and was a winner with the team that had the best athletes in college football, doesn’t mean his game is going to translate to the NFL.”

Esiason says he can’t imagine why the old coaching staff wanted Tebow and doesn’t see what good it does for the current coaching staff to keep him around.

“What Josh McDaniel saw in him God only knows. Maybe God does know — because the rest of us don’t,” Esiason said.

All indications are that Tebow’s job is safe, even though he may not even be the third-best quarterback in camp. But there are a whole lot of people watching Tebow who think the Broncos would be better off without him.

Brady Quinn appears to have No. 2 job

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 29, 2011, 6:01 PM EDT

Reuters
Brady Quinn worked exclusively with the No. 2 Broncos offense at Monday’s practice, all but completing a month-long process to pass Tim Tebow on the depth chart.

Quinn started as the No. 3 quarterback, split work with Tebow for a while, and now appears locked into the No. 2 spot. The Denver Post headline says Quinn is “now clearly” ahead of Tebow.

Tebow had a mixed performance on Saturday, and will get a chance to improve upon that this week.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post envisions Quinn playing a series or two on Thursday, with Tebow playing until Adam Weber finishes out the game. The Broncos may rest their starters entirely, like a lot of teams.

Even if Quinn is the backup, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Tebow hit the field in some goal-line packages during the regular season.

Safe to say Mr. Fox isn't going to let Tebow get him fired.

Nothing has changed. Tebow isn't, never was and never will be a regular starting NFL QB. He should try fullback.

Where are the Tebow cheerleaders now? Brady Fucking Quinn is no. 2? He couldn't beat out Brady Fucking Quinn?

Clearly, the only conclusion that can be drawn is that there is no God.

Jesus Christ Claims Tim Tebow Not Ready To Be NFL Starter
AUGUST 20, 2011

DENVER—Jesus Christ, noted Son of God and football analyst proclaimed Monday that second-year Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow lacks the pocket presence, arm strength, and passing accuracy necessary to be a starter in the NFL. “Tim’s place is at the right hand of the other backups on the bench, and his earthly works show that he deserves to dwell there all the days of his life,” said Lord and Savior of all mankind, adding, ““It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of the needle than for Tim Tebow to complete a pass against the Cover-2”. “For Tebow must have faith in coach Fox’s plan, and pay his dues by wearing the headset, and by calling in plays from the clipboard while watching from the sidelines.” Christ also asked Tebow to stop praying to Him and asking to be made the number one quarterback in the depth chart, claiming “that’s never going to fucking happen.”

If any QB on that roster hasn't been given a fair shot, that would be Brady Quinn.
He got into a bad situation in Cleveland and then was traded into a bad situation in Denver.
He has shown signs in pre-season. Time will tell.
BUT Tebow....Try Fullback

Denver Broncos team report: Don't look for Tebow soon
PUBLISHED 16 hours and 59 minutes ago
10-6-2011

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Kyle Orton’s 33rd start for the Broncos figures to be his most scrutinized. Denver enters Sunday’s game against San Diego at 1-3 and with a bye in Week 6, there has been speculation that if the team loses again Sunday it might be time to insert Tim Tebow.

But coach John Fox has done his best this week to dismiss that notion. Fox has pointed out that Orton is in just his fourth game in Fox’s system, and he seems willing to give Orton time. Besides, Fox has said several times that Orton won an open competition, and though Orton has made mistakes, he has not been the sole reason for the Broncos' slow start.

Think it's Tebow time? That assumption runs contrary to Broncos beliefs. (AP Photo)
Fox went as far as to say he doesn’t believe in “make or break” when asked about the pressure Orton—and his 12-20 record as the Broncos’ starter—is under.

There appears to be an underlying feeling within the locker room, in the front office and by Fox that not only is Tebow not ready to ascend to a full-time role, but it would be difficult to make quick changes on offense to accommodate him.

It’s possible that Brady Quinn is the actual No. 2 right now, not Tebow. Quinn outplayed Tebow for most of training camp, and his abilities are similar to Orton’s. Therefore, the team wouldn’t require major tweaks in the game plan should Quinn have to enter a game.

The fans clearly want change. Orton knows he has to cut down on turnovers—he has thrown six interceptions and lost two fumbles—but even with the upcoming week off, the time for Tebow might not be now.

You Tebow haters don't get it. This guy has more heart than anyone in the league and he is a winner.

Here is the real truth. Both sides of the Tebow argument are somewhat right. The guys that love Tebow are right in the fact that Tebow does have some acpects that are great. Yes he has a ton of heart and thats great, but he beat the worst team in football so lets calm down. here is what the Tebow lovers dont get.

Tim Tebow as of right now does not have the skills to truely be even a ok to good NFL QB. He can't throw the football. period. his accuracy is atrocious. The ball takes forever to leave his hand. He simply can not spin the ball. He can't read defenses and frequently yesterday didn't even see wr's that were open. more than once yesterday he threw the ball out of bounds when there was open recievers on the field. I mean one of his "great" qualities is that he is mobile. ok, he was sacked 7 times yesterday. Orton was sacked 9 times this whole year and he isn't mobile. being mobile is one thing, having no pocket awarness is another. He was absolutly awful for 3 and a half quarters yesterday. He did ok at the end, why. because the dolphins went into a prevent defense which was stupid on their part.

I got money on the fact that for the rest of the year Tebow is going to see alot of cover 2 and defenses that are going to force him to make accurate throws with touch and he simply wont be able to do it.
