I would get the 3 for $199 and see what I thought. If you see some improvement, then maybe snag another 3 for $199. I would think that would be enough to lighten it for a nice cover up. If not, then maybe another 3, or even splurge for the $1500 and still not too bad in the pocket. I think I would only go for the $1500 if I wanted to try to remove the thing for good, hopefully.

There are some killer ones out there now that only do cover ups. That's where my money would go as well. Head outta town and make a vacation out of it...

Part of the reason I want it removed is that I don't like having any ink that is visible.

It's on my inner forearm, the last thing I wanna do is make it bigger...

I do want it totally removed. You think I should just go straight for the 1500 Piqo then?

Did the $1500 and 8 treatments sound like it was about guaranteed to remove it? I'm sure they at least had example photos of before and afters you viewed today?

Yeah I saw before and afters - they were pretty impressive. 8 treatments would pretty much certainly be enough. That's one of the things PicoWay boats; fewer treatments required because it breaks up the ink into smaller bits.

I just feel like 8 PicoWay treatments might be overkill. It's a small all-black tattoo with a lot of outlining and not a ton of solid shading. I feel like a q-switched laser is sufficient for this job, so I might be able to get it done a lot cheaper than 1500.

3 packages for $600, I gotta think that 9 traditional treatments would kill this thing, no?

Or maybe I could talk them into 4 PicoWay treatments for $750? I asked why the only package was for 8 treatments, when they boast that 4-6 sometimes does the job. Lady didn't really know how to answer that question, just said that "most people need 8". WTF

I'm guessing hers had color in it? Mine is only black, which drastically increases my chance of success...

Hers was only black as well. But hey if that new process works try it out. She said it was a 100 times more painful than the tattoo itself.

Place I'm going offers local anesthetic if you want it.

What year was this done? No offense intended, but was it done in the US?

It was done in the US and it was a few years ago. So i'm sure the technology has improved. Would be a great business to invest in as so many people are getting tattooed these days.

Harry,

I am disappointed. Getting a tatoo. Either white trash or trying to be like the others. You are better than that. I blame defying for getting in your head.

Oh trust me I do.

When I got separated I stayed in the house, had a big 3BR/2BA. A recently-single bartender friend/drinking buddy of mine moved in with me. He was big into tattoos.

I don't really remember this happening at all, but apparently he talked me into going with him one night to get one done. I woke up with one the next morning.

Shit happens, I didn't really care. It's not like it's a cock and balls on my forehead. But I'm sick of it now, reminds me of my drinking days. Also I have climbed the corporate ladder to the point where it looks kind of out of place when I wear short sleeves - golf outings, company-sponsored social events, etc.

No big deal.
I get it.

Think I would go with the 9 for $600, or see if they will do $750 for the 4 like you mentioned, but sounds like they won't. Good luck.Let us know how it goes when you decide to let em bring the pain.

Yeah that's how I'm leaning. I have my first consult with the $200/3 people tomorrow, they said they could do the first treatment right away if I want. So may have an update as early as tomorrow.

So I had the consult with the Q-switch place today. They stuck to the 3 for $200 and then they would honor that price for however many packages of 3 I wanted to buy afterwards.

Place seemed clean, guy was knowledgeable, so I went with it. Had my first treatment today.

Tech says to me right before getting started: "I'm not going to lie, this hurts really really bad". She said a lot of people scream and squirm around. I gulped hard and decided to take it like a man with no numbing agent. There is a little research that using a numbing agent prior to treatment increases the risk of scarring.

To be honest, it really wasn't that bad, and I'm not just saying that to be a tough guy. I was carrying on a conversation with her while she did it. It really didn't bother me that much. It didn't feel good, that's for sure, but it was totally bearable. I'd say the pain was half as bad as it was getting the original tattoo. And it only lasted about 3 minutes instead of an hour. So, totally doable.

It immediately "frosted over", which was kinda crazy to watch. 30 minutes later the frosted look was gone and it is just black again, with some minor swelling and a little bleeding. Felt like I had a bad sunburn on my arm for about 2 hours afterwards, but now the pain is totally gone and the swelling is down.

Keeping a series of pictures, will show after a few treatments. They space them out 6-8 weeks so I don't go back until September.

That's cool. Yea I figure it's not as bad as most say, but my pain threshold seems to be way higher than the average person. Hope it works, and look forward to the result pics...

Thanks Matty. Bottom line, if you handled getting the tattoo in the first place just fine, you wouldn't have problems with this.
