Jacks just saw your reply...well thought out:
1. Sheldon and Lito will not be as intimidating as Bobby and Troy were but with Dawk and Lewis (hopefully both healthy) back there to lead them I am looking forward to these guys playing CB. Don't get me wrong I love Bobby and Troy but they are getting up there in years and the nagging injuries kept them out of a lot of last year's games (and the Eagles did just fine without them). As for the 5th CB it will probably be Roderick Hood or Clinton Hart.
2. Yes they do well when they run the ball I agree there but the problem is Andy needs to run the ball when it's going to be most effective and not when everyone in the world knows he's going to run it. I have a lot of faith in Westbrook and Buck (that's putting faith in that both of them are fully recovered from their injuries).
3. Won't deny Donovan is better when he can be a multiple threat (scramble/passing) but he has proven he can be a pocket passer when he has to (Arizona game comes to mind). I don't think the Eagles wideouts were very good at getting seperation from the defensive backs and I think Owens will do an outstanding job of it. He's a big target too which McNabb has NEVER had (other than Chad Lewis which they should've been throwing to more last year).
4. Vincent in the locker room yes but the same was said about Hugh Douglas and they were able to get through that. Staley was a part of the offense but he became the old man out and regardless this is Donovan's offense. Actually right now I'm happier with Dhani Jones than Emmons who is questionable after the injury (the Birds didn't like his performance post-injury in workouts which was part of the reason it was easy to part ways with him). I think the mix of vets and youth is better now than it's ever been.
5. The NFC East has vastly improved in the passing game speed wise and I think Brown and Shep have a better chance of making plays because of their young legs. I worry about experience but I think Dawk and Lewis can handle that at the safety spots.
6. I'm not too concerned about games against the AFC. They're nice to play once in awhile and the Eagles for the most part get along with the Ravens (the pre-season games are about as friendly as you can get). Who knows where these teams will be at that point.
Keep in mind the chant comes at the end of "Fly Eagles Fly" the team song so I don't think the Jets had anything to do with it (even though they have a song too but NOTHING compares to hearing Fly Eagles Fly after a TD at the Vet/now the Link).
As for the comparison I have to say we have never experienced the parade of a SUPER BOWL victory (OUR Birds did win the old NFC Championship so we had that going but that was so long ago it's in Eagles folklore) so I can't say I know what it's like to celebrate it but I will say I enjoy the consistency of having a team that has had the opportunity to be there year in and year out even though they haven't gotten there. I guess I'm starting to sound like a Buffalo Bills or Minnesota Vikings fan but I am happy with the team not winning one year and going 3-13 the next. To make the playoffs consecutively in this league is tough enough...to make it to the NFC Championship game (where only one other team can go) 3 years in a row shows they are trying. What more can you ask from a team in a tough city like Philly? Not much...
Tell your wife keep her head up....we'll get over this hump sooner or later (preferably sooner!).
Good luck to you...
