Colorado vs New York
Sunday, July 13th, 2008
8:05 pm est 5:05 pm pacific
Line: New York(-175)
Rating: My First Ever Guaranteed 80 Unit MLB Game Of The Year
In this contest, my money is on the New York Mets
This game was written before last night's games were finalized.
This game is going to be over very, very quickly. The Mets are one of the hottest teams in baseball, having won seven straight games, outscoring the opposition by a 44-19 margin. The Rockies meanwhile, have reverted back to their losing ways, having lost three of their last four, allowing 23 runs in the process. The pitching matchup also heavily favors the Mets as sizzling Mike Pelfrey looks to win his six straight start. Pelfrey doesn't have the greatest overall won/loss record, but he has a solid 3.93 ERA, and a 2.68 ERA at home. In his last six starts, he has gone a perfect 5-0 and the team has won all six. In his last two starts, he has allowed just one run and nine hits in 14 innings of work. Mark Redman goes for Colorado and he has been hit all season long. He is just 2-4 and sports an ERA of 7.37. Things are even worse on the road, where he is 1-2 and his ERA has climbed to 9.00. New York is sizzling, they are at home and they have the much better pitcher on the mound. I still can't believe they are only -175 favorites. Take them to the bank.

Seattle Mariners (36-58) at Kansas City Royals (43-52)
(R) Carlos Silva (4-11) vs. (R) Kyle Davies (3-1)
The Kansas City Royals have won nine of their last 13 games at home and four of the last five at home versus the Seattle Mariners. Both will have struggling pitchers on the hill this afternoon. Seattle?s Carlos Silva (4-11, 5.59) is 1-11 with a 6.56 ERA in his last 15 games and the Mariners have dropped nine of his last 10 starts. Kansas City?s Kyle Davies (3-1, 4.71 ERA), is 0-1 with a 7.31 ERA in his last three starts and the Royals have lost seven of Davies' last 9 home starts.
Go with the Royals for a sweep of the worst team in the American League this afternoon at Kauffman Stadium. Seattle?s offense is lifeless and they have played awful, especially on the road. The Mariners have lost five of its last 6 games away from home, just 17-31 on the road this year. Seattle has played that bad, they make the ailing Royals looked terrific.

This matchup presents us with two starters who have been trending under the total - at least where they are today.

Meaning the large CC Sabathia (I left out the periods, like you asked, CC), who's been a winner with the under in 7 of his last 10 starts as a home-pitcher.

Sabathia's not only gone under 7 of those 10 home games, but gone under by an average of 2.55 runs below the line in that stretch.

And with young Homer Bailey, who has gone under in 3 of his 4 career lifetime starts on the road.

So let's continue going with the trend - as that very wise stock-market saying goes, "the trend is your friend!

Game: Los Angeles Angels at Oakland Athletics Jul 13 2008 4:05PM
Prediction: under
Reason: Oakland is 37-18-3 UNDER their last 58 games vs. a team with a road win percentage of over.600 and they are 8-3-1 UNDER in the last 12 starts made by Justin Duchscherer. The A's are 15-6-2 UNDER their last 23 games vs. righty starters. Los Angeles is 24-10-2 UNDER their last 36 road games and they are 20-6-2 UNDER vs. an opponent who scored 2 or less runs in their last game. The Angels are 15-6-2 UNDER their last 23 games as underdogs and they are 5-1 UNDER in the last 6 starts made by Joe Saunders. PLAY ON 'UNDER'

1* (regular play) New York Yankees Money Line (-) @ Toronto @ 1:05 ET -

Pettitte vs Burnett ? After getting shutout on Friday by Roy Halladay, we expected a bounce back from the Yankees offense yesterday and that?s why we used the over. The Yanks pummeled the Blue Jays Jesse Litsch and rolled to a 9-4 win. Once again we expect the Yankees bats to stay hot today but the difference today is that the Jays may not be able to score much. Keep in mind that Toronto got totally shutdown after the first inning of yesterday?s game and the Blue Jays now will be dealing with a red hot Andy Pettitte of the Yankees!

Pettitte is 5-1 with a 1.82 ERA in his last six starts. The southpaw also will enjoy facing a depleted Blue Jays lineup. Toronto is currently without arguably their two best hitters right now. Alex Rios is in Puerto Rico where his girlfriend is expected to deliver the couple?s first child. Also, Vernon Wells is currently on the disabled list and he truly is the Jays most dangerous hitter. This will allow Pettitte to work very meticulously with the rest of the lineup and we don?t expect him to give them much. He has simply been dominant in many of his recent starts and Pettitte is also a rock solid 11-4 in his 15 career decisions at Toronto!

The Blue Jays pitching situation is not nearly as solid as the Yankees! Yes, A.J. Burnett is still a big name but he?s really not pitching like one right now. Also, he?s making this start on three days rest due to injuries in the Blue Jays rotation. This doesn?t add up to a recipe that is likely to yield success for Burnett and note that he has a 6.91 ERA in his last seven outings. Burnett has particularly struggled in each of his last two outings and the Jays right-hander has been dreadful at home this season! Burnett is 6-3 at home this season but he has a 6.36 ERA. As you can see, run support has been a key to many of his home victories and, with being opposed by Pettitte this afternoon, run support is not expected for Mr. Burnett this afternoon! He does have good numbers against the Yankees in his career but current form outweighs historical data and we don?t like the way Burnett is throwing right now. Play the New York Yankees on the money line as a regular selection.

Minnesota Twins vs. Detroit Tigers (MLB) - 1:05 PM EDT Premium Play
Pick: Money Line: -143 Detroit Tigers Play Title: 25 Unit MLB 1st Half Game of the Year

25 Units, Take Detroit ML, This pick falls into one of my elite MLB systems and the Twins opponents are hitting .296 against them over their last 7 games while averaging 6.0 rpg. Justin Verlander (6-9, 4.24 ERA) has pitched solid over his last 3 starts with an ERA of just 2.89 while striking out 16 batters over 18.7 innings. Verlander has also pitched solid at home this season with an ERA of 3.80 while striking out 55 batters and allowing just 58 hits over 71 innings. Verlander allowed just 5 hits and 1 earned run in his last start against the Twins back on May.25 while lasting 7 innings and the Tigers are 5-1 in Verlander's last 6 starts. Nick Blackburn (7-4, 3.72 ERA) has struggled on the road this season with an ERA of 4.77 while allowing 67 hits over just 54.7 innings and the Twins are just 3-6 this season when Blackburn has started on the road. Before last nights game the Tigers opponents were hitting just .232 against them over their last 7 games and I look for Verlander to have a solid start Sunday afternoon. Take Detroit as my 1st Half MLB Game of the Year.
