Dallas is just 2-13 S/U on the road this season however and one of those wins came in Chicago against one of the league’s worst teams while the other win came down the road in Houston. The Mavericks have the next two days off before hosting New Orleans Wednesday, but they will need to play a third road game in four days and a fourth road game in six days ahead of the break. Dallas has lost five straight games ahead of this game, but last night’s loss will sting the most, falling narrowly in Oakland against the defending NBA champions. That was a very tight game most of the way with Dallas within a point in the final minute. Four starters played at least 30 minutes as this could be a worn-out squad physically and emotionally. This will be a revenge spot for Portland after Dallas won 111-102 hosting Portland 19 days ago. The Blazers had a poor outside shooting game and didn’t threaten in that contest with a 35-23 edge in free throw attempts for Dallas also a factor. After a hot 10-3 start to the season Portland is just 18-14 but they had posted three quality wins in a row before losing by 30 hosting Utah on Friday. The edge in Rip City isn’t what It once was but Portland is still a solid 12-5 S/U at home this season and the Blazers have not lost consecutive home games this season. Utah is a vastly underrated team that has played the toughest schedule in the league while Portland isn’t far behind with a top seven schedule and 12 wins vs. the top half of the league, tied for the second most in the NBA. Portland remains a high-end offensive team that has scored more than 113 points per game at home this season, a big jump of improvement from last season’s scoring splits. Scoring for Dallas drops six points per game on the road and this looks like a difficult spot on the schedule for the Mavericks who are also facing a bit of internal conflict after some of Mark Cuban’s recent controversial comments. There is also a chance Doncic winds up sitting out tonight after a bruised hip last night. |
