Preview: Los Angeles at Winnipeg

When: 2:00 PM ET, Sunday, November 13, 2016
Where: MTS Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba

After briefly finding their offensive rhythm, the Los Angeles Kings are struggling again while scoring just once each in back-to-back losses to Montreal and Ottawa. The Kings play Sunday at the Winnipeg Jets having scored 17 goals – 15 coming in a three-game stretch – in their past eight contests, placing even more pressure on a team that not only is missing top goaltender Jonathan Quick, but saw Jeff Zatkoff leave Friday’s 2-1 loss at Ottawa after two periods.

“I don’t know what it is,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter told reporters after Zatkoff – playing his first game since being injured in an Oct. 23 practice – removed himself after making 18 saves in two shutout periods -- giving way to Peter Budaj, who allowed the tying and winning goals. The Jets come home after a painful loss Friday in overtime at Colorado as the game ended when Winnipeg’s Nikolaj Ehlers’ pass in the defensive zone slid by goaltender Michael Hutchinson and into the net. “You wipe your hands of that one, take a shower and go home,” Jets forward Blake Wheeler told reporters after Winnipeg wrapped up a quick two-game road trip with three points. Winnipeg’s offense is one of the league’s most explosive, as rookie sensation Patrik Laine opened the weekend leading the NHL in goals and Mark Scheifele was atop the league in points.

TV: 2 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), TSN3 (Winnipeg)

ABOUT THE KINGS (7-8-0): Zatkoff appeared to reaggravate a groin injury Friday that sidelined him for 11 games, and Budaj – who is 7-5-0 with a 2.07 goals against average – figures to get the start Sunday. Los Angeles is struggling mightily on special teams, going 1-for-25 on the power play in its past eight games. Center Jeff Carter brings a five-game point streak (three goals, three assists) into Sunday after collecting an assist Friday.

ABOUT THE JETS (7-7-2): Laine and Scheifele, who is riding a five-game point streak, have combined for 21 goals and 15 assists through 16 contests. Ehlers also has a five-game point streak, assisting on both Winnipeg goals before his misplay of a puck in the corner of his zone in overtime. Defenseman Jacob Trouba, who missed the first 15 games with a contract dispute, played 23:14 Friday with two shots in his season debut.

OVERTIME

1. The Jets placed F Mathieu Perreault (upper-body) on injured reserve Saturday, recalling F Quinton Howden from Manitoba of the American Hockey League.

2. Kings C Anze Kopitar is day-to-day after leaving Friday’s contest with an upper-body injury.

3. Jets D Tyler Myers did not play in the third period or overtime Friday after suffering a lower-body injury.

PREDICTION: Jets 4, Kings 3

Preview: Dallas at Vancouver

When: 4:00 PM ET, Sunday, November 13, 2016
Where: Rogers Arena, Vancouver, British Columbia

The Dallas Stars are beginning to build some momentum after an injury-aided slow start and try for their 11th straight victory over Vancouver when they visit the struggling Canucks on Sunday afternoon. The Stars managed one victory in seven games (1-4-2) before knocking off Calgary (Thursday) and Edmonton (Friday), allowing two goals in each encounter.

“We’re finding ways to defend,” Dallas leading scorer Tyler Seguin told reporters. “With guys out of the lineup, that’s a lot of speed and a lot of goal scoring. Our main focus and discussions have been how we’re going to defend.” Help is on the way as veteran forwards Jason Spezza (lower body) and Patrick Sharp (concussion) could return to the lineup soon for the Stars, who take on a Vancouver team that notched one victory in its last 11 games (1-9-1). The Canucks, who started the season with four straight wins at home, come back to Rogers Arena after a 1-5-0 road trip. Vancouver is last in the league in scoring at 1.8 goals per game and near the bottom on the power play (8.7 percent).

TV: 4 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Dallas), Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver)

ABOUT THE STARS (6-6-3): Seguin leads the team with seven goals and 17 points, and is among a group of forwards raising their production level over the last week. Seguin and Patrick Eaves have each notched five points in the last four games while Jamie Benn owns two goals and two assists during the brief winning streak. Physical forward Antoine Roussel has scored in each of the last two contests and boasts a five-game point streak for the Stars, who have picked it up on the power play of late at 5-for-16 over the last four games.

ABOUT THE CANUCKS (5-9-1): Vancouver is balanced on offense, but no one has reached double figures in points through the first 15 games with Henrik Sedin leading the way at nine. Daniel Sedin (five goals, three assists) and Bo Horvat (four, three) have contributed, but major offseason signing Loui Eriksson has managed only one goal – in the lone win on the recent trip against the New York Rangers. Jacob Markstrom (4-2-1, 2.23 goals-against average, .915 save percentage) has performed better than Ryan Miller (1-7-0, 2.79, .907) in goal.

OVERTIME

1. Three of the last four meetings, including two of three last season, came after regulation.

2. Vancouver D Troy Stecher had a career-high six shots on goal to go along with an assist last time out against Detroit.

3. Dallas G Kari Lehtonen was in net for the previous two victories and is tied with Sunday’s probable starter Antti Niemi at three on the season.

Preview: Minnesota at Ottawa

When: 5:00 PM ET, Sunday, November 13, 2016
Where: Canadian Tire Centre, Ottawa, Ontario

The Minnesota Wild look to break even on their four-game road trip when they conclude it against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. Minnesota fell to 1-2-0 on its trek after squandering a pair of leads Saturday and dropping a 3-2 decision at Philadelphia.

Nino Niederreiter scored for the Wild in the loss, giving him a goal in two straight contests and three of his last five to pull within one of Eric Staal for the team lead. Ottawa is seeking its third consecutive victory after posting 2-1 triumphs at Buffalo - in a shootout - on Wednesday and over Los Angeles at home two days later. Five of the Senators' last six games have been one-goal decisions, with the club going 4-1-0 in those contests and four of the five ending with a 2-1 score. Kyle Turris leads Ottawa with six goals but has scored just one in his last five games for his only point in that span.

TV: 5 p.m. ET, FSN North, FSN Wisconsin (Minnesota), TSN5, TVAS (Ottawa)

ABOUT THE WILD (7-5-1): Staal notched an assist on Saturday to raise his point total to 12 - one better than defenseman Ryan Suter for the team lead. The 32-year-old center has notched at least one point in seven of his last eight games. Erik Haula, who returned to the lineup Thursday after missing seven games with a foot injury, appeared in his 200th career contest Saturday but was kept off the scoresheet a third straight time after recording his only two points of the season on Oct. 18 versus Los Angeles.

ABOUT THE SENATORS (9-5-0): Mark Stone entered the season with back-to-back 20-goal campaigns under his belt but, like most members of the team, has struggled in the early going. The 24-year-old right wing scored the winning goal versus Los Angeles on Friday for his first point in seven games and first tally in nine contests - and second of 2016-17. Chris Neil was back in the lineup against the Kings after missing one game with an upper-body injury and saw 6 minutes, 48 seconds of ice time on 11 shifts.

OVERTIME

1. Senators C Jean-Gabriel Pageau notched two assists on Friday after registering a total of two points in his first 13 games.

2. Minnesota G Darcy Kuemper could make his first start - and appearance - since Oct. 23 after Devan Dubnyk allowed more than two goals on Saturday for the first time in nine starts.

3. Ottawa has allowed fewer than two goals in each of its last six victories but scored two or fewer in eight straight contests.

Preview: Boston at Colorado

When: 7:00 PM ET, Sunday, November 13, 2016
Where: Pepsi Center, Denver, Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche could be without their leading scorer when they continue a four-game homestand Sunday against the Boston Bruins. Matt Duchene, who tops Colorado with six goals and 11 points, is questionable with concussion-like symptoms he received on a hit by Winnipeg defenseman Jacob Trouba in the second period of Friday's 3-2 overtime victory.

"This morning he was better, but he's not 100 percent, so he didn't skate today and he will get evaluated again," Avalanche coach Jared Bednar told reporters after Saturday's practice. "(Sunday) will be a big day. See how he comes in tomorrow and then we can kind of go from there." Rene Bourque scored two goals in the win over the Jets, including the decisive tally 1:23 into the extra session, to double his season total and give him three in his last two contests. Boston aims for its third straight victory and seventh in nine contests after beginning its three-game road trip Saturday with a 2-1 triumph in Arizona. David Pastrnak continued his scoring spree in the victory, netting his team-leading 10th goal of the season and sixth in seven contests.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), Altitude (Colorado)

ABOUT THE BRUINS (9-6-0): Brad Marchand notched an assist in Saturday's win, giving him a team-high 16 points and one in six of his last seven games. Captain Zdeno Chara reached a milestone against the Coyotes, setting up Ryan Spooner's goal for his 400th career assist. The 39-year-old defenseman had gone seven contests without a point and recorded just one in his previous 11 games.

ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (6-7-0): Bourque has recorded four goals in 11 games after scoring three in 49 contests with Columbus last season. The 34-year-old forward, who registered three straight 20-goal campaigns with Calgary from 2008-11, hasn't reached double digits since netting 18 with the Flames and Montreal in 2011-12. With Duchene a question mark, A.J. Greer - a 19-year-old left wing - was recalled from San Antonio of the American Hockey League and could make his NHL debut on Sunday.

OVERTIME

1. Avalanche LW Blake Comeau, who has missed three games with a groin injury, was a full participant in practice Saturday but is not expected to play against the Bruins.

2. The teams split a pair of games last season with each winning a road contest.

3. Colorado is 1-1-0 on its homestand, which concludes Tuesday against Los Angeles.

Preview: Montreal at Chicago

When: 7:00 PM ET, Sunday, November 13, 2016
Where: United Center, Chicago, Illinois

The hockey freight train known as the Montreal Canadiens attempts to continue steaming along when it visits the Original Six-rival Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. Montreal extended its winning streak to four games with Saturday's 5-0 triumph over Detroit, which was its 10th straight at home to begin the season and 13th in its first 15 games overall - both franchise records.

Carey Price has been a major contributor, as he is off the best start in the storied history of the Canadiens - capturing each of his first 10 starts - and is riding a personal 13-game winning streak that dates back to last campaign. While Montreal has suffered just one regulation loss all season, Chicago hasn't fallen in 60 minutes since Oct. 21 -- going 8-0-2 since. The Blackhawks' point streak reached 10 games on Friday as they dropped a 3-2 decision to Washington in overtime - their third consecutive game that went beyond regulation. Chicago also has been a force at home, going 7-0-2 at United Center after suffering a 5-2 loss to St. Louis in the season opener.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, RDS (Montreal), WGN (Chicago)

ABOUT THE CANADIENS (13-1-1): Andrew Shaw recorded a goal and two assists on Saturday to match his point total from the first 14 games of the season. The 25-year-old's tally was his first since the season opener at Buffalo on Oct. 13. Alex Galchenyuk leads the team with 16 points after notching a pair of assists against the Red Wings and has been kept off the scoresheet in only three of his 15 contests.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (10-3-2): Chicago hopes to have Artem Anisimov back in the lineup after the Russian center missed Friday's game with an upper-body injury. The 28-year-old Anisimov is tied with reigning Hart and Art Ross Trophy winner Patrick Kane for the team lead in scoring with 17 points and is even with Marian Hossa for first on the club with eight goals. The 37-year-old Hossa is riding a three-game goal-scoring streak and has netted seven tallies in his last eight outings.

OVERTIME

1. Price's winning streak is the longest in the NHL since Anaheim's Jonas Hiller captured 14 in a row from Dec. 6, 2013-Jan. 12, 2014.

2. Chicago will be playing its last home contest before embarking on its annual Circus Trip, which this season is a string of seven games on the road that begins Tuesday in Winnipeg and concludes on Nov. 26 in Los Angeles.

3. Montreal F Paul Byron is riding a career-best three-game goal-scoring streak and a string of four straight contests with a point.

Preview: NY Rangers at Edmonton

When: 9:30 PM ET, Sunday, November 13, 2016
Where: Rogers Place, Edmonton, Alberta

The Edmonton Oilers look to pull out of a rough stretch and knock off one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference when they host the New York Rangers on Sunday night. The Oilers have dropped consecutive games at Pittsburgh and at home against Dallas, falling to 2-4-1 in their last seven outings after a tremendous start to the season that had them on top of the Western Conference.

Edmonton’s 19-year-old captain Connor McDavid will try to end a seven-game goal drought, but he has posted five assists in the last three and leads the team with 18 points in 15 contests. The Rangers will pose stiff competition after notching their sixth win in seven games Saturday with a 4-1 triumph at Calgary, and boast a league-best 62 goals in 15 contests (4.13 per outing). Michael Grabner continued a strong start by notching his team-leading eighth goal against the Flames while rookie Jimmy Vesey scored his seventh. Goalie Henrik Lundqvist has allowed two goals or fewer in seven of his 11 starts this season for the Rangers after stopping 35 of 36 shots on Saturday.

TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), Sportsnet 1 (Edmonton)

ABOUT THE RANGERS (11-4-0): Forward J.T. Miller recorded his ninth assist Saturday to take over the team lead in points with 14 for the balanced Rangers, who boast 14 players with at least eight. Captain Ryan McDonagh notched his team-leading 10th assist in the win against Calgary and center Derek Stepan scored his second goal of the campaign. Nick Holden, an offseason acquisition, leads all defensemen for New York with a plus-11 rating and rookie blue-liner Brady Skjei has impressed with nine assists to go along with a plus-5.

ABOUT THE OILERS (9-5-1): While McDavid has not been able hit the back of the net of late, Jordan Eberle registered two goals and two assists over the past two games and Patrick Maroon leads the team with six tallies — four in the last five contests. Forward Tyler Pitlick scored three goals over 27 games in his first two NHL seasons and has recorded five in the first 15 contests of 2016-17. Power forward Zach Kassian (lower-body) is questionable for Sunday’s game and the Oilers are without veteran defenseman Kris Russell (lower-body).

OVERTIME

1. The Rangers have won three of the last four meetings, including a 5-3 triumph in New York on Nov. 3.

2. Edmonton G Cam Talbot, who was acquired from the Rangers before last season, has allowed at least three goals in all five games this month.

3. New York F Kevin Hayes saw his six-game point streak (four goals, six assists) come to an end Saturday in Calgary.

PREDICTION: Oilers 5, Rangers 3
