Steve Harvey calls out wrong winner to Miss Universe

When Columbia was just standing there so long & nothing was happening, i asked my gf what the heck was going on..

Knew something wasn't right.

I do think they were scrambling in a panic & not sure what to do, and that's when Harvey manned up for everyone & came out saying "let me take control of this" because apparently his colleagues didn't have a clue


Thats my belief.

That he merely took the fall for a bunch of morons...

Would've been the very definition of EPIC to be a Fly On The Wall amidst THAT Backstage Conversation....with Harvey having just exited stage left and now in the wings just off-stage....Hopefully theres Video of it.

Other than "insert name here", they rehearse this over and over. He made the mistake.

Look at that card Mike.

Impossible to misread that so only 2 scenarios:

A. Whoever was in his ear made the call and/or confused him

B. The theory about Colombia having it wrapped up BEFORE the final tally of votes at the end from all of the other girls


Someone had to take the blame.

Not saying either of the 2 above is exactly what happened but I think just as likely as him misreading it...

If he had misread it & announced Columbia by mistake, they would have instantly corrected him over his earpiece.

Makes even more sense that it wasn't his mistake...

This is not a big deal. He handled it will. All he did was read what the card said. Every person in this thread would have done the same thing unless you are illiterate .

The person who put the wrong name on the card is the one who should be at fault.

That could have been the new, correct card.

None of it adds up.

Dont think anyone could misread that & if he had they would have corrected him immediately...

I believe he didnt pay any attention to the right side of the card. He probably thought 1st meant first place, and it was Miss Columbia.

The set-up on that card is quite confusing.

You have a huge MISS UNIVERSE... then right underneath, a very very tiny Phillipines, which is hard to pay attention to cause it is dwarfed...

Then on the left you have 2nd , and then 1st.

I can easily see how he made that mistake, the card set-up needs to be reworked.

I think that's what happened too. Though I disagree with it being confusing to anyone with an average IQ.
