I do agree by reading the rule posted above, then the TD should have counted regardless of where the ball was. However listening to things today, that rule was put in place for players catching the ball passed the goaline but the ball is out of bounds. So Randy Moss/Cris Carter type catches on the sidelines.

I agree with you 100%. However, the way the rule reads, Holmes' catch was a TD, regardless of where his feet were...

lucky? toughest schedule in nfl by far. #1 defense in fb which normally wins games. show me where they've been lucky, with any luck they would of won nyg and indy game.

one of 3 best teams in football, get ready for them in tampa

Not even close.

They should've lost to Baltimore and Jacksonville the first time, then you add SD, Dallas, and Baltimore again.

Teams like these are the ones who get put out in the first round because they're living on their last legs.

Honestly, the Steelers have to be the NFL's children, they get every fucking call you can imagine.

I'll bet you 100$ right now that they don't make it to Tampa. The only way they're going to Tampa is to WATCH.

So how about it, $100 on the Steelers not making it to the super bowl???

You are just the exact person i am calling an idiot. Did you even read what i wrote? the ball doesnt have to cross the goaline.

Yeah, because you're the fucking idiot.

EVERY LEVEL OF FOOTBALL the rules don't change.

It doesn't matter how where, what angle, the ball has to TOUCH, ABOVE, EMBRASE, HOWEVER THE HELL YOU WANT TO PUT IT. It does have to be crossing the goaline. The fact that you're arguing otherwise shows that you're the fucking idiot.

What about the BS spot on the 3rd down call? That was worse than the TD.

Yep, another terrible call. Nobody in Pittsburgh should complain about a bad call for about the next 20 years. They've been getting every call for about the last 5 years.

They have more fluke wins from fluke calls then anyone I can remember.

Damn, thats some good odds you are giving that Steelers don't make super bowl. Let me think about that. I will get right back to you. Where else can I get even money that the Steelers make it to the Super Bowl? How about $500.

Ummm, read the official rule. That's not what the rule says....

I'd like to know where that came from, cause I can't find it in the NFL digest of rules. If that is part of the official rules I'm sure they didn't mean to word it that way.

sorry, i was out of line for calling people idiots for just being ignorant.

the problem is, some of you people are reading the DIGEST, not the RULEBOOK. thats a short summary of the rules, but not all of them.

Does anyone not remember when vick scored (i believe on a mnf game) when he dove over the pylon. The ball did not cross the pylon, but he stuck his other hand out (ballless) and it crossed the plane. None of the coaches even know it was a rule, somehow vick knew to challenge the play, and it was later called a touchdown

a play like that is always a TD because the goaline extends around the earth. Meaning that as long as part of the player crosses the goalline in bounds than the ball is also counted as inbounds because the goal line extends past the pylon, however the ball must pass the pylon.

Look I have no dog in this fight. I'm not a fan of either team but the ball does have to break the plane. I realize some of you guys are interpeting the rulebook, but I'm about 99.999% sure your interpritations of this rule are wrong. This is a quote from the Ref that made the call:

"Yeah, the ball was breaking the plane. He had two feet down. When he gained control of the ball, the ball was breaking the plane and then he fell into the field of play. But to have a touchdown, all you have to have is a catch, which is two feet down, possession and control of the ball breaking the plane." Thats coming from the ref that made the call. Even he says the ball needs to break the plane. He just thinks that it did break the plane and thats why he overturned the call.

no matter how anybody interprets the rule it should be worded better by the nfl. Part a. of that rule clearly says a player running has to have the ball cross the plane but part b. doesn't really clarify if they mean the player or the ball. depending on how you read it I think it could mean either.

You may want to have someone from the RX or a book hold that money.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they changed that rule within the last year or two. The goaline no longer extends infinitely. Now, the ball has to be within (or on top of) the pylon...

Ya I think they changed it last year but when Vick did it you didn't have to have the ball inside the pylon

here's my last point on this. If it didn't matter whether of not the ball broke the plane than why did the ref that made the call and the head nfl spokesman guy both mention the ball breaking the plane. Clearly both of them think the ball needs to break the plane otherwise why bring it up. Just say, the WR had 2 feet down in the endzone, it a TD. But they both said the ball broke the plane. Now if it didn't matter they wouldn't have made it a point to say it. So either the ball has to break the plane or we have some refs and some nfl higher ups that don't know the rules.

This isn't very hard. The ball has to cross the goal line....

Why do you think there was a big spew about Jackson from Philly when he tossed the ball?

I honestly wonder if anyone here(ones who refute) really watches football that much.

I find it laughable the guy on here calling people an idiot, yet he's the fuckin moron for not knowing the rule. In EVERY level of football the ball has to break the goaline.

That guy is the true idiot.
