Also, Red Sox place C Christian Vazquez, RHP Carson Smith, LHP Eduardo Rodriguez and RHP Brandon Workman on DL. Vazquez likely to make 20-day minor-league rehab assignment, after which he'll either be optioned to Triple-A or called up.

Kris Bryant grew up in the shadow of that other Vegas phenom Bryce Harper, but the NL Rookie of the Year has quickly become one of the brightest talents in the game -- exactly as Mike Bryant planned it.

Aaron Sanchez says he and manager John Gibbons talked about the possibility that he might have to go back to the bullpen at some point to manage innings even though he won the fifth starter job in Toronto: "The main key is just pitching all year," Sanchez said. "We'll worry about (the bullpen) who the time comes."

The Nationals are 17-4 this spring, the best record in baseball. Does it mean anything? "You want to start with some momentum. You want to feel like you're a good team," said skipper Dusty Baker. "If we were 4-17, you'd have doubts."

Cubs OF Dexter Fowler is fine after leaving Sunday's game with tightness in his left side. He felt it even before he homered, then came out. He'll take a day off to make sure he's ok. Meanwhile Javier Baez is meeting with trainers regarding a jammed thumb.

No official announcement yet, but John Farrell says he's "leaning" toward Steven Wright as fifth starter. Given how ill suited Roenis Elias is for relief role, he's looking more like odd-man out.

For 217 million reasons, Red Sox confirm David Price as Opening Day starter. Clay Buchholz will follow as No. 2 starter. Sounding a lot like Joe Kelly for third game, though nothing set in stone.

Injured Tigers reliever Blaine Hardy will throw for second straight day. Light bullpen session today. Hardy said his arm feels good but does not sound optimistic about avoiding Opening Day disabled list; "I think It'd be pushing it, but you never know. " Hardy sounds like he would like to err on the side of caution rather than push it and lose a significant chunk of 2016 season as a result

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus sounding pretty confident on Victor Martinez' Opening Day availability: "At this point, I would be shocked if he wasn't ready to go." Martinez, who suffered a hamstring injury March 14, returns to the lineup today as a designated hitter. Has taken at-bats in minor-league games the past two days

Outfielder Tyler Collins appears to be in good shape to begin the season with the Tigers when they open in Miami next week. Manager Brad Ausmus stopped short of saying definitively that he would be on opening day roster but admitted he was "in the driver's seat." In other OF news, injured CF Cameron Maybin (wrist) has begun swinging the bat. Still will begin season on DL but is encouraged by progress to date.
