Tyren Jones arrested this morning for weed possession....he'll be kicked out of Bama as he was already suspended for Spring football. Tough 4 days for Nick and the boys. If you're keeping count that means we're down for sure a RB (jones will get the boot), a DL (taylor kicked out) and WR (cam sims blew his knee out Saturday in practice) and every QB looking like shit. so pretty solid march for the Tide

Just FYI, as it is now in Washington and Colorado, on July 1st this year, marijuana will be legal to possess in the State of Oregon. It will be fully decriminalized other than for trafficking and even then with greatly reduced penalties. I think it was a good move by the state legislators to do this -- not for the reason of making it more available to minors, but because virtually half of the inmates in prison are doing time for possession of pot. The courts are overloaded with criminal possession cases. It has become so large of a problem that prisoners in jail for more serious crimes are being released for lack of space. The cost of enforcing marijuana laws has become enormous and has rendered budgets irrelevant.

The point of me bringing all of this up is to ask the question, how will this change in the law as of July 1st affect athletes and punishment for using marijuana in the State of Oregon? If they are of drinking age, responsible drinking is tolerated. Now comes the question of pot. Will the penalties for using it be relaxed for athletes that smoke it?

Conan, just think of the recruiting angle.....

Come join the Ducks. Practice and play hard then relax with some "legal weed."

Pot is legal to a great extent in California, so it really has nothing to do with state or local laws. The Feds have still outlawed it. It really depends on how the NCAA wants to deal with the problem.

You can't actually be that narrow minded.

UCLA WR Devin Lucien is going to transfer out of school as a graduate senior. Lucien was the #5 receiver for UCLA last season. Without QB Hundley to throw the ball, UCLA will scale back their offense and be more run minded. No great loss here for UCLA.

I think it's a pretty complex issue about the decision-makers and each school in the state.
Federal policy has been to leave well enough alone. Now where does the NCAA weigh in on this?

There also needs to be some medical studies on how pot affects the bodies of athletes for any
possible performance enhancements it might provide. Concentration, relaxed attitude... whatever.
On the other hand, I doubt that any coach that runs the hurry-up would appreciate a lazy pothead.
Most of the pot busts involving athletes have originated from a police report. Now there won't be any.

a little rough....

The 24-year-old woman who accused Jonathan Taylor of domestic violence came forward Monday and recanted her story that he caused injuries to her neck and damaged property in her apartment, Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit assistant commander Lt. Kip Hart said.
Investigators interviewed her further on Tuesday, he said, before charging her with making false statements to law enforcement.
"Based on her statements that she had fabricated the stories, investigators charged the female with false reporting to law enforcement," he wrote in an email sent Wednesday morning.
Her name has not been released. She has posted bond and is no longer in police custody.

Florida

As the Gators get acclimated to their new head coach and staff this spring, there are fewer of them than normal along the offensive line. Florida has only seven scholarship offensive linemen healthy this spring. They have just eight on the roster. The Gators signed six offensive linemen in February, but for the time being, the seven plus some walk-ons are holding the unit together until reinforcements arrive this summer. Florida lost starters Max Garcia, Chaz Green, D.J. Humphries, Trenton Brown and Tyler Moore from last year's line.

To add on to Florida's woes, new HC Jim McElwain sees very little progress with the offense and has very few kind words for the offense so far. Not only does Florida appear to have major problems on offense, they also lose several key layers on defense. Unless something changes for Florida in a hurry, you may be looking at a 5th place team in the SEC East. Georgia and Missouri are well ahead of them. Tennessee could have a breakout season. South Carolina still has plenty of talent, compared to Florida.

Stranger things have happened but it looks like McElwain will have to pull a rabbit out of a hat for the Gators to be contenders this season. Only ten starters return with just 4 of those on offense.

CoachCB may have some insite I'm missing but looks like a rebuilding year in Gainesville.

Cudo's to Nick Saban and the University of Alabama for not allowing Johnathan Taylor back in school or on the team. This guy deserves to be serving time in jail, not attending a university. HE is a no good thug who will never learn. He will be back in jail within a year.

Bama down another rb ...

Alabama247 is reporting that rb Bo Scarbrough was injured and carted off the practice field yesterday. No word on the extent of the injury but he was carted off.

...They also had video of qb practice with Bateman and Cromwell looking really sharp.(finaly) ...It's not a give-me that this is Cokers job. We shall see.

Ty, from what I'm hearing the Bama quarterback battle is wide open. Bateman has also been working at wide receiver. I have to think Coker will probably end up the starter even though he's not been special this spring.

Arkansas

The Razorbacks are expected to be improved this season but how much they improve on their 7-6 record last year is anyone's guess. The SEC schedule is maybe the most difficult in the conference. Matter of fact, the road schedule is nothing short of brutal. Arkansas will travel to Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M. The teams coming to Fayetteville are no push overs...Auburn, Mississippi State and Missouri. I'm thinking they better win all four of their non-conference games (UTEP, Toledo, Texas Tech, UT Martin) or it could be a very long year.

The news just continues to be bad at Alabama. Now RB Bo Scarbrough has possibly torn an ACL. Nothing is official as of yet, but 'Bama is already very thin at the RB position, with only two remaining backs with mulitiple carries last season on the team.

Clover, I'm thinking that Arkansas will be a little overrated this year. I know they have 17 starters back. But I just don't think they are there yet. If they were in the SEC East it might be a different story. But right now all the teams in the West Division have more experience and depth than they do. I also think they might be a tad overrated based on what happened at the end of last season where they were able to take advantage of an inexperienced LSU team and an injury plagued Ole Miss. And a Texas team without a QB in their bowl game. Plus the Hogs were able to stay healthy last year. It's hard to sustain that kind of good fortune 2 years in a row. But we'll see. Right now I'm a little skeptical, especially when they go into conference play.

I agree with Go on this. Arkansas has the same mentality as Wisconsin when it comes to an offense. Run, Run, Pass, Punt. That will certainly not cut it in the SEC West, where teams like Alabama can defend that type of offense in their sleep.
