Florida going into spring w/ 7 scholarship OL. And Will Muschamp said he left the roster stocked. What an ass-clown!

Did anyone see the video of Dak Prescott getting jumped/beat up in Panama City, FL on spring break. He got bloodied up pretty good. I can't believe a group of college football players would take a beating like that. I'm assuming they were outnumbered.

Good question River. Here are some particulars regarding spring practice.

Schools are allowed 15 practices that must be completed in 34 consecutive calendar days. Only 12 of the 15 practices can contain contact. Only 8 of the 12 contact practices are tackling drills allowed. Three practices can be 11 on 11 scrimmages. A spring game is optional.

Nebraska

Husker fans seem to be embracing new head coach Mike Riley (Oregon State), who brings an experienced coaching staff and refreshingly friendly personality to Lincoln. As the team begins its third practice today, two major stars need to be replaced. Running back Imani Cross gets first crack at the tailback job vacated by Ameer Abdullah's departure. Defensive end Randy Gregory will be even more difficult to replace. Someone will have to step up and fill that void. The offense will switch from the spread to a pro-style under Riley. Finding a quarterback to run the new offense is of some concern during spring.

Emphasis on experienced coaching staff. Practices have been split into two groups, one following the other, to allow coaches to evaluate what they have. It wasn't a wow hire initially, but there seems to be a lot of substance.

I looked at Nebraska's OL roster. They have 17 and we still can find consistent tackle play.

Iowa QB Jake Rudock may transfer. Iowa HC Ferentz took his starting job away after a 45-28 loss to Tennessee in the tax-slayer bowl. Michigan is beiong mentioned as a potential destination for Rudock.

Once again, the brilliance of Ferentz shines. Your team gives up 45 points in a bowl loss, so get rid of the QB. And this guy is still a Head Coach?

Spring Practice: Projecting The UCLA Quarterback Depth Chart

With Spring Practice drawing near for the UCLA football program, Go Joe Bruin will start to look at the talent at every position group. Today we start with one of the more intriguing stories lines as we project the UCLA quarterback depth chart. With one of the greatest QBs in Bruin history, Brett Hundley, leaving for the NFL, UCLA will look to several young players to step up and take over in offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone‘s spread offense.
So here is what we have:

1. Jerry Neuheisel, R-Jr., 6’1″, 200 lbs.

The case for Neuheisel is that he is the only Bruin with game experience (except for Mike Fafaul). He helped lead the Bruins to victory over the Texas Longhorns in the game at AT&T Stadium when Brett Hundley went down with an elbow injury.
He also made an appearance in the final game of the regular season against Stanford when Hundley left with an injured hand, unfortunately that time on the field was not as productive as during the Texas game.
Though we do not know the complete tool kit Neuheisel possesses, you can guarantee that he has been working on his game, knowing the QB position was opening up after 2014.
He is an intelligent player and a born leader, so his understanding and execution of the offense he has been a part of for the last three years should only help his cause to be the #1 QB.

Sep 26, 2014; Las Vegas, NV, USA; St. John Bosco Braves quarterback Josh Rosen (3) makes a pass while being pressured by Bishop Gorman Gaels defensive end Haskell Garrett (16) during a game at Fertitta Field.Bishop Gorman won the game 34-31. Mandatory Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Josh Rosen, Fr., 6’4″, 207 lbs.

The #1 high school quarterback in 2014 is already taking classes as a college student as he enrolled at UCLA in January. Rosen is what some believe to be the automatic #1 guy for the Bruins in 2015. He has a beautiful mind, a great arm and legs that can get him out of a jam if all his passing options are exhausted… kind of like the last QB.
Last year at St. John Bosco High School, he threw for 3,186 yards and passed for 29 touchdowns. He also left a mark rushing as he ran for 378 yards and 6 touchdowns with a long of 47. Those are fantastic numbers, but can they translate to the college game?
OR

Sep 25, 2014; Tempe, AZ, USA; UCLA Bruins quarterback Asiantii Woulard (2) against the Arizona State Sun Devils at Sun Devil Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Asiantii Woulard, R-Fr., 6’3″, 210 lbs.

Woulard is a fantastic athlete and was said to be the mirror image of Brett Hundley when he came out of Orlando, Florida in 2012 as the #1 dual-threat quarterback in the nation. In his senior year, he threw for 13 touchdowns and ran for 11.
Though he should have no problem rushing for the Bruins, word is he was not yet where the coaches would like him to be, which is probably why we saw Neuheisel make two appearances last season over Woulard. With that in mind, during Spring Practice look for Woulard to show that he is as capable a quarterback as any to lead the Bruins in 2015.
4. Aaron Sharp, Fr. 6’2″, 200 lbs.

More From Football

Sharp is another dual-threat quarterback that fits the Bruin’s scheme. Sharp is the youngest returning QB, so he is still fairly new to the program. He was the #17 dual-threat quarterback during his senior year at Summer Creek High School in Humble, Texas where he three for 2,449 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was also a track letterman and was named named the Boys Track Athlete of the Year, so he is pretty fast. He will also complete for the starting job, though he may need another year get get fully acclimated with the team.
5. Mike Fafaul, R-So., 6’2″, 205 lbs.

Fafaul has seen time on the field and even had a 24-yard pass in UCLA’s Sun Bowl victory, but there is a lot of talent ahead of him this spring. But just because he is not on the field, does not mean he is not contributing. Fafaul was the scout team quarterback in 2014 and was named Most Outstanding Scout Player winning the Nick Pasquale Memorial Award.
6. Jake Hall, R-So., 6’4″, 200 lbs.

Has not seen time on the field during his time at UCLA.

UCLA is much better off going with the big freshman Rosen. Sure he is going to make mistakes but so will Neuheisel. Rosen is certainly a much better psysical specemin. If your QB is going to screw up, let the Freshman learn. He is going to be around a lot longer than the Junior. With a running game that is in fact, questionable at best, and an offensive line that is "suppose" to improve, I want a big fast QB who can scramble if necessary. Rosen fits the bill.

I looked at Nebraska's OL roster. They have 17 and we still can find consistent tackle play.

17 on scholarship? If so, that's incredible, as I imagine there's a few coming in the fall. UF has 3 or 4 walkon OL's, so they can field a 2 deep...but 7 is ridiculous. W/ graduation a D1 program should have 10-12 (minimum) in the spring (scholarship players) w the incoming freshman class adding anywhere from 3-6 in the fall to those numbers. Most coaches will tell you that 15 is the minimum you want on the roster.

When Muschamp got fired he made a comment along the lines of, "Don't let the next guy make excuses, we're leaving a stacked roster...." What a joke. Perfect example of why he got fired: stubborn and hard-headed!

I was kind of the odd ball last year here on the forum because I thought the Gators would bounce back and have a good season. They didn't...I was wrong...and who the hell knows what to expect from Florida this season.

Gaming wise....Florida is probably a good wager the first half of the 2015 season....public expectation very low.

Will be on my radar.........

CL, funny thing is UF could have/should have won 3 more games (w/ 2 less losses). The Idaho game got called due to weather. The LSU game was practically given away by the offense (the TE had the ball hit him square in the hands in the endzone....and LSU would have had to score a TD w/ less than 2 minutes to go). The SC game was a special teams blunder. Incompetent coaching. The FSU game could have been a toss up also. Funny thing is, I'm happy the way it played out as it ended the Muschamp era for good. That guy was just a black cloud. Had he won that LSU game and the Idaho game was played, UF would have finished the regular season 8-4 and I think he would have kept his job....sadly.

CL, I'm not sure why all the love Auburn is getting (not just from you). From a "returning starters" standpoint they are in about as bad a shape as any team....yet I keep seeing them in most preseason top-10's. They return 12 starters (8 on defense....so saying Muschamp will "turn it around" is easy to do w/ 8 returning starters).

http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/sec-teams-returning-starters-2015/

From a returning starters stand point I'd be on the lookout for Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee, and Ole Miss. UGA has some work to do and so does Missouri. The East is truly a tossup.

The entire SEC is in troub le tis season when it comes to returning staters. That is why the Conference will be so competitive. I think Auburn's chances in the west are as good as anybodies, but there is no clear favorite. Can Auburn win away games at LSU, ARkansas, and A&M, plus a home game against UGA?

The Big 12 in it's brilliance, has decided to go back to the old way of determining a football conference champion. According to Big 12 Commish Bob Bowlsby, a tie for the championship will be broken by the final score of the head to head competition. Ofcourse this was always the rule going in, so why the Big 12 AD's had to turn around and vote for this again is beyond anyone's comprehension. There never was a "New Way" so no one really knows what Bowlsby was talking about. What he should have said was that he will NOT run his uneducated mouth off in a desperate attempt to get a Big 12 team into the playoffs again. All he did was give the Committee another excuse to make sure that neither Baylor, nor TCU would go. Baylor was the winner of that match up, so unless Bowlsby is as stupid as some of the Big 12 fans and thinks that BOTH teams should have made it, he should have backed Baylor totally and not even have mentioned TCU except to show how Baylor defeated a very good team.

Jack Miller, 5th yr Senior and projected starting center at Michigan has decided to forgo his 5th year at Michigan. Exactly what Harbaugh did not need. Losing a starting center is always tough, but this late in the spring makes it a bit more difficult.

No shit. Losing starting OLs unexpectedly isn't good. I'm not a Michigan fan, but I'm tired of Ohio State having essentially a 1AA schedule/path to the post-season. I don't expect Harbaugh to turn it around in year 1, but I want to see drastic improvement. And this doesn't help!
