The Pats would be at least 14 point favorites against those Bears, Dolphins, or 49ers. The average player size and speed has changed - chalk it up to better weight routines or drugs, but either way, those teams from the 80s and before would get killed. I would venture to guess that half the NFL teams would be favored over those teams from 2-3 decades ago.

Sean, I'm an advocate of this arguement also.

However; what if those players of yesteryear also had access to all the supplements and training knowledge of today?

Husker are you out of your damn mind.

So you telling me anyone who had a better batting average than another player is a better hitter,a boxer who has less losses is a better boxer,a golfer who has the best round ever at a major is the best golfer ever?

Again you are wrong

I fixed it for you

Also this argument is a crock. When you compare different eras you dont compare size, etc.

When they compare Borg or Johnny Mac to Sampras do they say well his racket is better from today so he would win. Come on with this weak sauce.

To me, the Patriots have to be the choice for best team ever. And it is not because they are undefeated

The Cowboys in the 90s played two games against a 49ers team might be also better than any team in the NFL this year outside of New England; they played another two games against perhaps the best defensive line in history (Eagles). In 1992 the Cowboys three playoff games were against teams better than any team New England has faced in these playoffs

The 19-0 is not everything in terms of being the best team in history. Anyone to use that arguement is stupid

The reason the Patriots are the best team ever is because they can put Tom Brady in the shot gun, lineup five wide and complete 93% of their passes. The 1985 Bears team would have a good deal of success rushing the passer, but remember the reason the 46 defense isn't used any more is because it is designed to force a team to pass. Against an offensive line better than any they ever faced, it would only be enough to win 40 out of 100

Since some of you have the ability to compare teams from the 1970's with a team playing 30 years later ... and some of you weren't even born in 1970, can you do me a big favor?

  • Can we compare the 1926 Yankees with the 1985 Bears?
  • Can we compare 1990 Bulls with the 1960 Canadiens?
  • Can we compare the 1926 Yankees with the 1972 Dolphins?
  • Can we compare the 2003 Yankees choke with the Buffalo Bills/Scott Norwood choke?
  • Can we compare Babe Ruth with Lance Armstrong?
(It's one thing to debate this shit, but what I find the amazing is that everyone thinks they know)

I wish I had the interest to worry about comparing you to someone ... but since I don't want to hurt your feelings, let me give it a shot anyways:

You're like the guy who sells peanuts and popcorn on 5th and 42nd ... he says the same thing everyday, he sells the same thing everyday, and once you pass his cart, you could care less about what he says and what he does.

... but if he played against you in "drop the soap in the shower", he would beat down your ass 9 out of 10 times.

PS: Are you still hoping someone will hire you as a Mod or have you given up hope?

Might just stray out to the tables though as thier best dealers won;t be on duty as should be slow on the floor.

Of course the old time teams aren't as good with today's teams. The athletes are superior as is the knowledge of the game. When comparing teams from different eras, you have to compare how well they played in the context of their time - against their opposition.
