Given that the investigation is not yet complete, I have to wonder if the NFL is going to attempt to spin this in some way - like throwing the refs or the equipment boy under the bus. At this point, how can the SB be anything but tainted? No matter what happens the Patriots will be forever seen as a cheating organization.
Exactly....

If the Seahawks win it will be "we beat a bunch of cheaters". If the Pats win it will be "we lost because they cheated". No win situation because of this.

TB #12 would be the ONLY ONE with say on how to pressurize the balls.

It will interesting to see what the end of the investigation will say.

Amazing that these refs go through a "screening" and "inspection" of these balls before game time but when they handle it 100 times on the field none of them stop and say....wow these feel different.

well the officials are 60 years old and not griping the ball to throw it 45 yards they toss it underhand 10 yards

They don't inspect the balls? They don't know what a properly inflated football feels like? It's their job. And if they we improperly inflated they should have spoke up and stopped the game don't you think? It took a DB who barely touches the ball to notice? If the Pats were cheating the officials should have done something about it at the time.

My guess is that the NFL will find that most teams try to "adjust" the footballs to their QB's liking - it's common practice. They'll come up with a new rule.

the ref inspects the balls and he never touches them in a game the line judge and ump touch the balls the most

a DB touches the same legal balls all week

If Aaron Roger's statement about liking to over-inflate balls was made some time ago rather than, like, yesterday it clearly illustrates that QBs getting balls to an inflation level they like is a common practice and that it is to a very large degree accepted or he would not make such a statement and goad the NFL & it's officials to be on the lookout for improperly inflated footballs when he is behind center.

If GB doesn't implode vs. SEA and they are in the SuperBowl with Arodg on record having said basically "Watch Out! I like to over-inflate the football" do we have this Media firestorm and humungous Public SHITSTORM right now? Of course not. This is all because its Bill, The Patriots and a bottom-feeding Media that is out of control in this country.

I'm waiting for the final report to be issued, but if the balls were tested at halftime like it's being reported now, the 2nd half was 28-0.

I need all the findings at this point, but I don't like the way it's trending. I don't like the perception, I don't like the nonsense. I don't understand why BB would bring this upon himself if that's what he did.

He knew the Colts couldn't beat him, why take such a chance if that's what he did. That would be a man taking that looking for every edge thing to extreme measures, especially since so many players have said it doesn't make much of a difference. At least one QB thinks it's better to have more pressure.

Were the balls tested before the game? using the same equipment? and if so and if they lost about 2lbs by halftime, how? If intentionally deflated by the Patriots, by who and under who's authority. I'm hoping there's a reasonable explanation, or at least somehow this wasn't done by design, but I'm not real confident that's going to be the final result.

the line judge and the ump should be able to feel the difference in two sets of balls being used in the same game

Has a driver going North on Interstate 91 at 9 miles above the posted speed limit brought it upon himself, the speeding ticket when going up to 10 miles over the limit is safe (and accepted behavior) but one is risking at 11?

Yes, down to Brass Tacks the driver has sped, he has broken the law and brought the ticket on himself but he commited the offense because its a commonly accepted practice...going up to 10 mph over.

Thats why the Driver did it and why Bill if he did it did it. wasn't a big deal and hasn't been a big deal in the whole 70 years of organized football.....didn't become a big deal till a few minutes back really.

The amount of air in the balls did not matter in the Indy game, but what about the Baltimore game? Would New England still have beaten Baltimore with properly inflated balls?

Roger Goodell has handed down harsh penalties to two players who had off the field issues. Will he be consistent and give a harsh penalty for this or will he just give the Patriots and their coaching staff a stern lecture and tell them not to do it again?

First off there may be times in the game where the ref handles the ball so that statement is not true.

Secondly you're going to tell me a linesman and ump doesn't know the difference?? Come on man.

Please don't think this is a tactic to make excuses. You will here none from me about this shit. I'm pretty disgusted, even if its not true it still sucks.

Pretty surprised an NFL official couldn't make a distinction between a good or bad ball.

That is how I see it. The advantage is so trivial, and likely immaterial, why do it?

It seems really pathetic to me.

Former NFL official Jim Daopoulos, in an interview with ESPN on Monday morning, explained the process in which footballs are managed. Two hours and 15 minutes before each game, officials inspect 12 footballs from each team and put a mark on them to indicate they meet the proper requirements and are good for usage. Then those footballs are given to the ball attendant.

There also is a second set of six footballs, used specifically for the kicking game, that are marked appropriately and remain in the possession of officials at all times.
"Officials check balls as they go into the game, and if the ball doesn't feel perfect, they can throw it out," Daopoulos said.

Here it comes:

"Sources said some on Baltimore's sideline believed there may have been irregularities with the kicking balls used in their AFC divisional playoff game at Foxborough, Mass., on Jan. 10.
Baltimore's kicking and punting units were not getting their normal depth and distance, and some believed the balls they were using may have been deflated."

so let me get this straight. The New England organization has been caught cheating in the past, rightfully punished. Shamed the organization . Fast forward a few years, under the SAME LEADERSHIP they do it again?

WTF?

what kind of people do this?

just wow. Speaks volumes about this HC and Brady. Here's hoping there's a reasonable explanation....is that even possible?

So Baltimore is the only team in the league that doesn't supply their own balls?

Maybe because its something thats been such a common practice for so long in the NFL that it's not even on his radar as a thing to not do? I don't know that this is the case, QBs adjusting psi of balls for basically EVER within the NFL but Rodger's statement SUGGESTS that it is...and has been.

If thats the case and QBs have adjusted psi as a common practice thats been happening for a very long time this wouldn't be something Bill would be concerned with. It doesn't appear the officials were concerned with it a whole lot prior to the events that transpired in the IND/NE game so just saying maybe this has been such a common practice in NFL for years that it's "commonly accepted" thus Bill and no other HCs thought they needed to be concerned with it.
