According to CBSSports.com NFL insider Jason La Canfora, doctoring footballs is nothing new. Former NFL quarterback Rich Gannon -- who was the losing quarterback in Super Bowl XXXVII -- told La Canfora that "this kind of stuff has been going on forever" and "everybody does it."

While the New England Patriots "deflate-gate" saga continues to unfold, the Tampa Bay Times is reminding NFL fans that former quarterback Brad Johnson admitted that he "paid some guys off" to tamper with footballs before Super Bowl XXXVII.

People HATE when others are successful then you have the whole NY/BOS rivalry thing + Ind+6.5 bettors and on top of all that you have a nation of 300 Million Sheeple either incapable of or too lazy to think for themselves just buying out the box what Media is saying/exaggerating/fabricating to increase viewership.

Were the balls deflated YES Is it as easy to "tell" as those who haven't compared 2 balls are assuming it is? NO Did Patriots break the Rules YES Was this a premeditated devious plan on Bill B or Tom B's part to defeat a team they'd trounced L3? NO can we all just get along and refocus on capping this very very hard to decipher matchup? HOPEFULLY

Goodell may just rule this has been blown way out of proportion and do very little. Of course much of the public want to see him stick it to the Patriots, so he may be forced to do something.

I'm guessing that Brady comes clean, saying that he asked for a little air to come out of the balls. His reasoned defense will be that he has been in this league for a long time, has talked to a lot of QBs and they all talked amongst themselves about what they do to the ball to get it to their preferential game ready state. Why is getting the ball sticky with coke, or scruffing it up any different than adding or subtracting a little air? He may even say that he had no idea that what he was doing was against any rules. And lastly he may ask why the NFL allows each side their own set of balls. The implication, of course, would be so that they could each "prep" them to their handling satisfaction.

What's anybody gonna say to that when there have already been several past or present NFL QBs who have already stated that they routinely did something similar ?
