Regarding Castiglione, see my post from 12:19. Nobody can help but like the man, but until Stoops wins a championship with his own recruits, he's really nothing special. Yeah, Snelly was fighting some demons, but I thought the OU job would put an end to that...it obviously didn't, but the man could coach in the day. Some time, sooner (pun intended) than later, OU country is gonna get real tired of falling short. Beating Bama in the Sugar Bowl last year really doesn't count for much, unless you like being less than No. 1.

you have lost your mind about bob stoops
163-39
8 big 12 titles
8-7 bowl record
1 national title. 3 appearances in title game total
i mean are you kidding me ?? I don't get it. Look at the condition of the Oklahoma program and look at it now. I know there has been some slippage in recent years but he will get them back to the top. I just can't believe some people say he still hasn't done anything haha

I remember several of us raising a stink a few years back about Kansas firing Turner Gill and hiring Weis. So how has that worked out for Kansas. I think Weis is still being paid by Notre Dame. He's got to have some of the smartest legal teams and marketing folks ever. Hiring a guy like Muschamp for a job like UF was a mistake. If you think about it, other than chest-bumping players at Texas, what did he really do. But I respect AD Foley and when they do make a move, he'll get it right this time around. He's a very smart guy.

Castiglione was the best thing to ever happen to OU. He's made mostly the right decisions when it comes to coaching hires and keeping a quality staff at OU.
Except not excepting the PAC12 invitation and staying in a fly-over conference with Texas. And I'm kidding with you. He's a top notch AD and he'll make sure that OU keeps top notch coaches in all their sports. He's spending the booster money very wisely.

I'm only gonna respond to this because I CAN'T STAND STUPID. Stoops won a title with players he didn't have a damn thing to do with recruiting. You want to talk about a coach, I suggest you look up a guy by the name of Wilkinson. I personally don't like Switzer because I played cards with him on occasion and the man has no tact. But Bud WAS THE MAN, period. Bob Stoops will never be Bud Stoops. Sorry guys, but sometimes ya gotta call them out.

Well, I did say mostly. I didn't agree with Castiglione about the Pac-12 decision. But that was also just as much on Boren and Dodds than anybody else...

Charlie wins the pool. When you lose 23-0 to this Texas team at home....you deserve to lose your job.

How about Charlie Strong?????

you're judging him based off 3 games (one in which they almost upset a top 15 team) in which he lost his starting center and QB along with a host of other players due to injury and suspension? not to mention he didnt recruit ANY of the players on this team.

wow.

just wow

Its a bit harsh however this freshman class is partly his. That top 15 team lost their starting QB before half time so he lost to backup qb. But Strong should be given time.

Weis got the ax this morning based on what ESPN is reporting. They should just give up football

Speaking of Kansas, they'll blow this hire as well. Weis is out this morning

I agree. Kansas problems run deeper than just the coach. Nobody will be successful there until they get over their "we're only a basketball school" mentality and get rid of that AD. Kansas made the same mistake as Texas Tech did. They got rid of Leach and Mangino. Both teams should have kept those coaches with their warts and all. KU needs to hire a coach like a Leach who can turn a program around and be competitive. Fits the Big 12 style and already recruits the Big 12 region.

I would hate to play for Leach. Kingsbury seems like much more of a players coach. I think he'll do great at Tech. Big Mang had Kansas at the top of their game though! Should have kept him.

Totally disagree. KK is in way over his head. Being a players coach means nothing. Saban is the most successful coach in football, and I guarantee you he isn't a players coach. I would rather be hated but respected.

who did he recruit from this current class? there were a few rush jobs he got in after a couple of de-commits but there were few. This is mostly Mack's class.

not that it will matter after Texas gets it handed to them the next 2 weekends. Hide your kids, hide your wife.....

When you give up 23 points to Texas, there really was no choice here :)

hey now, I think we scored 40-something on North Texas and they kept their coach!!

i'm already looking to next year.....not sure if we'll get many more wins the rest of the year unless something crazy happens with our offense...

Rumor, and all this is rumor but some of the folks are hoping Florida makes a play for Strong when/if Muschamp fails. Got that from golf buddy this afternoon while playing and I'm guessing he's heard this from his dad. Next few weeks have the potential to be rough with some high profile games on tap

To the folks saying KU should give up football and that they're a basketball school; the guy that ate a kid for breakfast one day took them to the Orange Bowl; and won. The KU AD had Malzahn in one hand and Fat Charlie Weis in the other, and chose the wrong one. They can be good with the right hire.
