That happens a lot-people doing profoundly stupid things and not believing they're gonna get caught, I mean. Nixon could've taken the tapes and burned them on the White House lawn once their existence became known, and claimed Executive Privilege, he likely would've survived. In retrospect, it's amazing that he thought that he wouldn't be forced, eventually hand over the tapes.

Although an anonymous owner has said no owner will support Godell if the reports of him having seen the tape are true, I still don't believe he'll be gone in a month-this independent investigation is, by all accounts, gonna take at least 6 weeks. And there, IMO, is yet another case where the NFL has shot itself in the foot: they're paying somebody to investigate themselves, that's already a bad look, no matter how impeccable the rep of the former FBI guy is, and, on top of that, 2 NFL owners are helping him do so?!?! Can you say conflict of interest?
