So after 20 years, what exactly did the US accomplish in Afghanistan?

Has anyone on here actually spoken/texted/emailed someone who actually served in Iraq or Afghanistan? Just curious to hear their thoughts.

I have spoken/texted/emailed a few friends who served over there.

The consensus said that they do NOT blame any of the 4 previous administrations. They could have stayed in Afghanistan for 6 more months or 60 more years and the same $hit was going to happen once they left.

They did everything they could to help the citizens of Afghanistan and they are shocked and disappointed that the citizens did nothing as the Taliban took over.

Yet we have 4 pages of garbage where the Trumpers are blaming Biden and Obama and the dems are blaming Trump and Bush. (some posters on this thread have been level headed)

To me its more about getting out the US citizens and the local Afgans that helped us with this operation.
It seems to me they were deserted to face the Taliban by themselves....we know how thats going to end....probably on TV being beheaded :>(.

And their take is pretty much the same thing you said…

It was a shit hole country when they got there…and it was going to be a shit hole country when they left…whenever that was…

But orders are orders and soldiers are going to do what they are trained to do…

From their perspective they put in blood sweat and tears and in the end it didn’t matter…of course you are going to feel some type of way over that…

But the military and former soldiers are just like the country, they have all different views so you will not find a 100% view how soldiers feel…
