Yeah but the A's at home is magic. I don't think any other team feeds off the home crowd more than they do.

Took the words right out of my mouth!! Baseball is 9 innings long gents.. We know this , we've all seen this. But I must say Oakland at home is very, very scary (remember that 4 game series when they swept the yanks?? Everyone was like o_O .... Detroit is in BIG trouble. Oakland swept Texas to win the division and essentially gain home field playoff spot ... Why won't they sweep Detroit to advance to the ALCS? That crowd is mental and Oakland is way way way hungrier..

To make it worse Garcia wouldve hosed him at the plate if he fields it correctly. He has a cannon and that ball was hit well. Didn't play tonights game but have a large bet on Detroit to win AL at +900 so equally as pissed. It's up to Justin. Something about these teams, As, Giants, Cards... they just dont go away...

You've got a Cy Young award winner and arguably one of the best pitchers in baseball going. As good as the Oakland crowd is they can't hit. Concern would be in the Detroit bullpen never a fan of Coke and Valverde may still be in shock.
Would much prefer to see the A's move one.

You see the pot belly on Valverde? The fat POS. He's some closer, he can't even close his pants.

I can not believe what just happened. The tigers are done!
That's far from true. Billy Bean's teams are perfect for doing this. They have a never say die attitude, then just when they get everyone thinking they've gotten over the hump, they lose it. "If you lose the last game of the season, it's all for not." That's haunted Bean's teams too many times. They get there, they make the fans believe, then they let them down. Tomorrow could very well be the perfect example of that.

And now Verlander is up? You can be damn sure he's going to be fired up and do whatever he can to win this game tomorrow. Same with Cabrera. He wins the triple crown, you don't think he wants to cap this magical year off with a title? More than ever. And Fielder has lost games in this situation too many times tomorrow. He will be smacking the ball around tomorrow. Anything to avoid another heartbreak. It wouldn't surprise me if the Tigers actually come out firing on all cylinders and pull away early. This is still Detroit's series.

After how they saw this game play out tonight, they will make sure they're up by more than two runs heading into tomorrow. And the A's crowd looks great, but they can't even sell out. The 500 level is more than 3/4 empty. The cameras block that off. I hope you're on the Tigers tomorrow SkyLa because I'm locking this in now. RL for me.

They way I look at tonight's games is... Detroit is done.. Oakland wins in a tight game in Detroit they beat the odds and play the Yankees. The yanks will beat Baltimore now. They set the pace(which there really isn't a pace) but they have control now. Both team do. Plays for the AL gotta be NY and Oakland. Oakland is the team that won't go away

Really tough beat for Tigers backers. I was on the A's...but I was also on the O's earlier, so it evens out, I suppose. But I've had more than my fair share of shitty losses lately, so I definitely feel for you guys. Just plain bad luck.

Think I have to back the A's again tomorrow. They're just a different team at home than on the road. Parker pitched a solid 6.1 innings against Detroit in Game 1...giving up only 2 ERs. He's more than capable of hanging with Verlander and keeping it close...and if it's tied through seven innings or so, then the home crowd is basically going to take over and give the A's momentum. Verlander is going to have to be error-free to get the win tomorrow, and I think the Tigers are pretty shell-shocked from what happened tonight. I don't care what Leyland says...it's not easy to "just put it behind them" in a matter of 24 hours. Plus, I don't think teams who have lost Game 4 in crushing fashion usually do well in Game 5, especially on the road. No facts to back it up...just a few similar instances I recall off the top of my head.

The A's crowd is going to be absolutely insane, and they're going to feed off of it. Just like they've done at home all year. All the stars are aligned for an A's win IMO...but good luck whichever way you decide to go, skyla...

Idk if u played baseball or not, I played my whole life. 23 years. High school college... I never pursued the minors or the majors but losing a game like that crushes a teams confidence. And Cabrera and fielder really have no control over it... They can't predict what pitch is going to come to them. Detroit is doomed, I told my friends if Detroit loses tonight they lose the series. Oakland has all the momentum... In baseball it's all about momentum, in football it's all about motivation and perception... Detroit lost the series tonight. Tomorrow is a nail biter or Friday whatever day they play. They're done.

I hate Jose Valverde! I hate they way he acts when he gets a save.

I was on Detroit obviously too, and couldn't believe what I was watching. I told myself a couple of weeks ago, never to bet against the Oakland A's especially when they're at home. Something about this squad.....I just don't know. You can't even explain it...

This made me laugh (even though I was disgusted after the game):

TWEET: Does Jose Valverde jump around and do all his antics when he blows a save? #sotired Great Finish!

SKY, don't even worry about the loss. Shake it off, and clean house on THURS! You deserve a SWEEP.

Which situations from the past come to mind when a team like that gets beat in G4 and loses in G5?

I'll tell you one thing right now.......DO NOT BET AGAINST THE A's on Thursday Night! You will be dooooooooooomed if you do.

Hard to measure when they ranked 27th in league attendance. Their fairweather fans are loud though.

Not trying to hijack sky's thread at all, but...

1997 ALDS: Indians over Yankees. Yankees up 2-1 in the series, cruising in Game 4 (up 2-1). Indians don't even have a base runner reach past 1st base from the third through the 8th inning, I believe. Then in the bottom of the 8th, Sandy Almoar hits a HR that barely clears the fence and the crowd goes insane. Indians score in the bottom of the 9th to win the game 3-2, then they go on to win Game 5 and take the series. I remember reading in the Usa Today how "shocked" the Yankees were after Game 4.

2002 ALDS: Angels over Yankees. It wasn't game 5, but with the series tied 1-1, the Yanks had a 6-1 lead over LA early on in Game 3. Angels kept chipping away, eventually tie it, then have a big 8th inning to go up 2-1. Yankees never really recovered, and Angels go on to win the series the next day...and the World Series that year.

2003 NLCS: Steve Bartman game...no explanation necessary.

2004 NLCS: Astros have a 3-2 series lead, lose game 6 in extra innings and go on to lose Game 7.

1999 World Series: Braves down 2-0, head to Yankee Stadium...cruising along in Game 3, up 5-1. Yankees have absolutely nothing at all going on offense. They get a HR here, scratch out a run there and win late. Then the Yanks went on to win Game 4 (remember the Roger Clemens game?). I remember making a massive play on the Yankees for Game 4. You could just tell by looking at the faces of the Braves players that they checked out after losing Game 3.

Hell, last year's Game 6 in the World Series. Remember? Rangers up 3-2 in the series, up 2 going into the ninth inning of Game 6, Cards tie it, Rangers go up 2 in the top of the 10th, Cards tie it again the bottom of the 10th, then go on to win in the 11th. Right then I knew the Rangers were screwed for Game 7.

Again, there are just a few. It just seems in baseball like when a team gets kicked hard in the balls in a crucial moment, it's very difficult for them to turn around and recover right away. I can't even think of one instance where a team suffered a stomach punch loss in a game and then went on to win the next game and series...can anyone?
