When this statement is made, they aren't referring to 1965. They are referring to today.

it should be noted that the general demographics of our target suburban homeowner client base is approx 80% white, 10% Latino, 5% AA and 5% other ethnic spanning a population of approx 500,000+ residential property owners

If an African American man of highest calibre were to have followed same business model in this same geographic zone (north end of both Pinellas and Hillsborough counties) he very well could have replicated same level of bottom line success

But it is absolutely certain he would have had to work twice as hard with regard to obtaining customers....easily would have needed to answer 2 to 3x the number of sales calls during either of the two cited time frames of 15 yrs and 7 years

Make no mistake....I feel absolutely Zero Guilt that I and my partners can have the $$ success we've enjoyed while working with market conditions 2 to 3x less difficult than a man who is clearly African American

Rather, I simply thank my stars that in fact, I *am* white

And I never, ever pretend that it has not been a significant advantage and privilege for doing wide ranging business in 21st century Florida USA given the demographics of our target market

I have had clients lament to me about how they purchased their current home after moving from a bit further south on the Pinellas peninsula because "too many nig**ers were moving in

I've had clients who told me directly they would accept our higher priced job offers because "the lower priced one came from a nig*ger and we won't let them on our property"

I've had inquiries from people - most often aged 50+ - who proudly display one or more version of the CSA flag...Those are homes with which I refuse to even offer business

I've had similar brazen pronouncements from potential clients directed at Latino operators* and gay/lesbian operators, but nowhere near the straight up racial discrimination as extended towards AA

I've worked my geographic zone of approx 400 sq miles (15 × 25miles) overall population as described in my lead post for 22 years and have seen hundreds of outdoor service operators. I have encountered maybe *10* who are AA

Now drive south of my zone into a similar sized population zone where the demographics shift much darker and AA operators now reflect a clear 15% or better

*There are of course many, many lawn/landscape services in my zone which are operated by Latinos.

The notable difference is they get paid anywhere from 20-40% lower than white-owned operators

That's it

Anyone TRULY interested in learning about real life White Privilege will not find it on a aports handicapping forum read by less than 100 men

There are libraries of such information

But those libraries are most often far too frightening for many whites to enter, much less have their material seriously examined

First real attempt at an answer ITT. Thank you. I'll give it to you...a black person trying to open a small service business where they cater to a largely white customer base would probably have a rougher go of it. Not sure that merits riots demanding complete upheaval of the "systemic racism" embedded in our society as a whole.

Woke America wants to "have a conversation". OK, let's have it.

There is a general level of distrust among well-to-do white America towards the black community. Whites are generally scared of blacks; sure you might have a black friend and be fine with your black coworker, but a lot of whites are more scared of a random unknown black than a random unknown white. Why? Might have something to do with that pesky (wildly) disproportionate rate of violent crime and interracial crime. Maybe that's part of the root ill that needs corrected. Why does the "conversation" never include that?

Cited ITT as an example of white privilege is that a black person can't walk through a white neighborhood without getting a cross look. But statistics (and common sense) dictate that it is far more dangerous for a white person to walk through a black neighborhood. I thought it was blacks that have to be scared every time they leave their house...blacks are "hunted daily"...but facts matter and the facts show that it is closer the other way around (either assertion is ridiculous).

three years, during a shooting war (1971) and do well in generator repair school.
You serve honorably and qualify for financial aid, attend a junior college on your
own dime, and graduate with an associate's degree in drafting technology. Then
you spend decades in the automotive and heavy-equipment industries, earning a
good living and -- get this -- SOMEHOW AVOIDING ANY FELONY CONVICTIONS and
the prison terms attached to them. You acquire a reputation as an honorable human
being and useful member of society.

Not so much a "privilege" as a duty, IMO. But I was glad to perform that duty, as are
