I made a wager /w another forum member, here:

http://www.therxforum.com/showthread.php?t=586868&page=2

Immediatly after losing I contacted him, on how I should send him his winnings. He gave me an address, and I sent him a money order via USPS /w delivery confirmation. This envelope was returned to my local post office marked "no such address". I was embarassed, because the winner of the bet thought I was BS'ing him. I sent him an email asking if the address was correct, which he said it was - so this time I sent it UPS 2-Day. Shortly after sending, I asked him again if the address was correct, because I couldn't find it on googlemaps. To this he replied, saying it was correct, BUT he quoted a slightly different address (ne63rd instead of ne3rd). I then berrated him, to some extend, as I'd put in more time dealing with the debt than it was actually worth.

Someone at the incorrect address signed for the envelope.

My feeling at that point was that the transaction was finished. I was given incorrect information twice, and once when I specifically asked it to be double-checked.

Now the winner of the bet has contacted me calling me a stiff. He has doctored HIS original email so it looks as though he gave me the correct address. So, here is what I'd like opinions on:

1) Does it matter? If you think that I should pay again, knowing that I won't see the original $150 back, just say so... And if it's concensus, I'll pay up.

2) If there are doubts about my credibility, and it makes a difference as to who gave who the wrong information I will be more than happy to give access to my Gmail account to a reputable forum member so that they can see the original (and subsequent) emails sent to me and verify my honesty in this conflict. As clearly, copying & pasting isn't a reputable way to solve this given my assertions.

Sorry to have to make such a lame post, but given the fact that I'm kind of an asshole - I don't want to wait to be accused of being dishonest and/or a stiff.

Should've heeded Wil's post.

IMO, if what you say is entirely true I would say it is his problem to deal with. Having said that, I would probably offer to split it in a gesture of good faith.

you just get a copy of money order..used to have to do that all the time..it has a carbon right? and you have the address of the one that cashed it..look it up,call them and tell them you are pressing charges..if it was a postal money order that is a felony

Don't even know if it was cashed - it was a postal money order. I do have the receipt, can they use that at the post office to do anything?

Is it too much to ask for the winner to contact the person who received his money order? Given that it's in his city? I mentioned this to him in an email today, admittedly with some colorful words thrown in after being called a stiff...

i think if it hasn't been cashed the PO can give you a refund for the money order.

if he really edited the original e-mail you're done with it. you did what you are supposed to do.

for sure..just take it to them...i used to pay people out of state this way all the time and they tried pulling "the ol' i never got it trick" once they learned it was a felony they never did it again...even though it was a felony what i was doing by sending it to them..i think it takes a week or 2 though..this was back in the middle 90's

Like I said, if that becomes the overriding issue I'll be happy to give a respected member access to my Gmail to verify.

Will go to the post office tomorrow - if this works I'll send a new money order out tomorrow to the corrected address. Appreciate the info, as the "this money order is like cash" talk made me think it wasn't possible.

I'd deal with it in two parts.

1) Send the money order again. It looks like you tried to do the right thing and should be commended for making the effort. Most guys dont even go that far. Bottom line, Lapdance should be paid the money regardless if it was screwed up and even if he altered the e-mail. He kind of looks like an asshole for altering the e-mail but the bet should be paid regardless. Its only $150 and I would pay it to avoid the BS

2) Deal with the person who cashed the money order seperately. go to the post office, call the bank, track the address down and contact them or call the local police. What ever you feel comfortable with in order to get the money back. I personally would order $150 in pizzas to their house and have a fax machine from work call their phone all night, but thats just me.

Deal with both situations seperately

First I'd tell this little mother ****** that won the bet to learn where the fuck he lives.

Second I'd tell the little twit to lump it. He aint getting shit. Maybe head to Pet Smart or Petco and get him a doggie tag so he can damn well remember where the fuck he lives next time he wins a bet.

Send him a copy of the money order to the correct address and tell him it could have been his but since he doesn't know where the fuck he lives, it's tough shit.

good news is the post office will give you a refund if the money order hasn't been cashed

the bad news is (& I hope this has changed by now) you have to wait 60 or 90 days to get the refund back

First, very true about being a Felony. Also just by someone opening Mail addressed to someone else is a Felony.

But they have changed some rules about Money Orders with the Post Office.

If Not cashed when you check with them. They ask you to fill out a Form.
They give you the money back..BUT

But you fill out this form, and after some amount of time they will let you if it was cashed. If Cashed after this time the money order is Cashed
You Have to Pay the Post Office Back.!!!

This happened to me about a Year ago. It was never cashed, so there was no problem.
