While I generally agree with Fish that during football season is not the most opportune time to make a change, the reality is that the site has been going down more then ever as football season has gotten underway. I am no techie, so I don't know what it takes, but in this day and age, a more reliable means to keep this site up and operating seems plausible. Down time doesn't help your advertisers get the views when they would like them the most, i.e. during crunch time of football season. Just my thoughts.

agree, it is scary to change this time of year, but even scarier that this might happen every week when we get busy, and of course, once nfl kicks off, we WILL BE busier....

Might be down for hours on a weekend....

please move on...obviously you have others who want the site...what is thier reliablility...can they deliver...you certainly must have these questions in mind...present provider has proven unreliable many...many times over the years...especially in the close hours leading up to the game...it seems to me this site will only grow...GO WHILE THE GETTINS' GOOD...

I agree that changing during the football season is not ideal, but there is greater downside with the high probablity that the site will be down often if we stay with Infopop.

I say make the change ASAP.

The problem with this kind of changes its always to accurately beta-test the new product, most of the times the so called beta-test is a few people trying it and thinking that it is "ok" and then when 2k people or more try to use it the flaws are evident but by then its too late to return to the initial product.

Has the "rx" team considered the posibility of running both this and the "candidate" simultaneously for say 2 weeks? That way the posters can use the old one if the new product is not stable or better than whats in place right now and if everything works ok then do a full switch to the new product

General,
Thanks for steering me here. I have been coming to this site to get "FreePlays" from the Shrink on NFL Football and to visit the Forum (and occasionally post some plays) since at least 2000.

In the last year or so, now that you mention it, since it was switched over to this "infopop" I have noticed/had more serious problems accessing the site.

Personally I have become VERY frustrated lately with the ability to get into the forum, seems to be a 50/50 chance whenever I log on.

I like everything about this site, but am getting to the end of my rope with the 'problems' that keep occuring with trying to access it all the time.

Hope you switch or get it fixed one or the other.

Thanks!

Eve/Infopop has its problems. I have logged in several times to have no images load, but that might just be my internet connection. On the other hand, I have grown to like the interface which is intuitive.

If you are seriously considering moving a forum this size, the most reasonably replacement is Vbulletin. It is a tested piece of software which runs many of the web's biggest forums such as www.offtopic.com, www.rpg.net etc..

The database transition should be quite easy with the Vbulletin provided conversion modifications.

Bottom line, these guys have 1 job and 1 job only to do...keep the forum up. They are down more than all other forums i frequent combined over a 1 year period. They are obviously incompetent, and incompetence should not be rewarded. You guys should find another forum provider if you want to sustain the greatness of this site. They have all of the fancy bells and whistles, but that doesn't cut it. Uptime is the premium here. People sharing info is critical, and downtime is unacceptable, even for a few minutes, let alone hours.

Shrink,
Doesnt infopop treat customers who who pay for large bandwith better? Is it affordable for you to increase your bandwith? From what I see as a marketer-with high speed access

1)your first page takes a while to load-sometimes it doesnt at all
2)do you know how many people that use this site just leave the rx open just sitting there? Maybe you could let them timeout so others can get in/log on easier
3)find out how many people infopop has on the same circuit. asked to changed to another less circuit with less traffic

After my initial response to this thread I went to the baseball forum to make a pick in the contest....then clicked on the middle link to the forum and got froze out just like this morning...load bar creeps real slow and then stops at about the 40% mark...

No access, no forum, same old shit.

It's 2004, almost 2005...It's time to dump the dinosaur.

You guys that want to wait till football is over won't want to wait anymore when the same crap is happening a week and two and three weeks from now. If the forums going to be down for a while to replace this system then why not do it now instead of going through all the grief and still having to do it later down the road.

Going to hit "post now" and just going to pray that everything goes right and this gets posted....becoming more of a crapshoot every day to get online and have confidence that things will post correctly.

Shrink,

Find some provider that doesn't require latest versions of IE to use it! This looks exactly like the old Forum in appearance so I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to read and post on my cell phone like I used to.
