LA Lakers at San Antonio Spurs (-8) 8:05 ET

3% LA Lakers (+8)

In 3 meetings this year, the Spurs have disposed of their former arch enemies by margins of 16, 34, and 6 points. Combined with the best record in the league at 62-19, there is little to prove against the 26-55 Lakers. That includes an LAL mark of 13-41 SU of late, in no small part because the Lakers have allowed 117 PPG since the ASB. The Spurs have played their best down the stretch, going 22-3 SU, 19-6 ATS. That includes the 104-98 loss at Houston on Monday. That is our lone reason for concern in this matchup, as the Spurs are 13-5 ATS following a loss this season. In recent years, the Spurs have proven they can win even with key starters being rested, as will surely happen this evening. But, the Lakers have shown they have not tossed the towel with a 119-104 win at Utah, Monday night. That victory lifted the Lakers’ record to 14-6 ATS as single digit dog, the only role in which they have profited this season. The Lakers, or what remains of them, play their Super Bowl tonight against the best team in the league.

928 Oakland at LA Angels

The Oakland A's and LA Angels of Anaheim finish up a three-gamer at Angel Stadium with Wednesday night's matchup between Tommy Milone and Tyler Skaggs. In looking at Skaggs, it's important to realize that he started this season with a clean slate. After having a boatload of expectations in Arizona to be one of the main contributors to the wave of arms with Skaggs, Trevor Bauer, and Archie Bradley, Skaggs was traded to the Angels in the Mark Trumbo deal. As a result, Skaggs was able to get a fresh start with a new franchise.

So far, it has paid dividends for the Angels because Skaggs made a small mechanical tweak to regain the velocity that he lost in the Diamondbacks organization and he looks like a different pitcher. It wasn't a minor bump, as Skaggs is averaging three miles per hour more on his fastball and has touched 95 several times in his first two starts. Skaggs has pounded the strike zone with nearly 52 percent of his pitches and nearly 61 percent of balls in play have been hit on the ground.

Against a lineup like the A's that thrives on walks and home runs, Skaggs's control and ground ball prowess should play up in this matchup. The A's entered play on Tuesday 28th in the league in wRC+ against lefties with a .541 OPS. Skaggs should challenge the A's hitters and force them to put the ball in play and there aren't many guys in that lineup capable of hitting for a high average against lefties.

Skaggs's biggest problems with Arizona were the lost velocity, control problems, and home runs allowed. The Angels have worked with him to regain the velocity, he's pounding the lower half of the zone, and Angel Stadium suppresses home runs, especially at night.

Tommy Milone has struggled against current Angels players with a .313/.353/.500/.853 slash line against. He has only made one appearance so far this season, so it's hard to expect him to be at full arm strength and to be consistent with his mechanics with so little game action since the end of Spring Training. That was evident in his last start when he had trouble locating as the Mariners had 10 hits and scored five runs off of him in just five innings. He threw just 35.5 percent of his pitches in the strike zone and the more experienced Angels lineup will sort out even better pitches to hit than the Mariners did.

The Athletics bullpen has been worked hard early in the season, especially with Jim Johnson's struggles. Luke Gregerson worked Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, while Sean Doolittle worked Saturday and Sunday and Dan Straily failed to make it through the fourth inning on Tuesday night.

The Angels are really starting to hit their stride and a healthy Albert Pujols has been a key cog in the middle of that lineup. The Angels are a team to watch and Skaggs is a pitcher that we like in this park and a guy that we strongly believe in until he shows us otherwise.

NBA – 521 Chicago Bulls @ 522 Charlotte Bobcats

Today’s card is pretty specific as not only we have to be focused on the matchups but also (and especially) w/ injuries, “taking” or playoff seeding!

When the Bulls faced the Knicks, I took NYK w/ the following mindset:

Unfortunately for us, the Pacers have defeated the Thunder today and basically they locked up the #1 seed on the East. They “just” need to beat the Magic on the final day of the regular season to have the home court edge throughout the playoffs – their primary goal for the season.

So, what in the hell I’m talking about this in here?!

With the Pacers being the #1 seed, the Bulls can “choose” between facing the Pacers or the Heat @ 2nd round and between us, the answer is pretty easy to guess, right? They just “need” to let TOR be the #3 seed…

For this contest, I expect the Bulls to be more “relaxed”

Well, the Bulls indeed lose that game and the Raptors took over the #3 seed… Note that this contest is @7PM EST while the Raptors game is @8PM EST, so I expect the Bulls to not be that “much focused” vs. CHA who still have a legit chance to be #6 seed and avoid the Heat in the first round.

Pick: 3 units (Single Dime Play) on 522 Charlotte Bobcats (-1) @ -110

NBA – 509 Detroit Pistons @ 510 Oklahoma City Thunder

I understand that we are taking some risks in taking the Under w/ DET in this season because so far, DET O/U mark in the season is 55-26 OVER (68% hitting rate!).

However, I believe that this is a good opportunity for us and we are getting an inflated line IMO. First of all, OKC needs to win to secure the #2 seed in the West but this isn’t going to be that difficult against this pathetic DET team.
Probably, Durant & Westbrook will start but I don’t expect them to play so many minutes like they did @NO (more than 40minutes!)!

We should see a heavy dose of OKC’s bench and this is why I really the Under in here:

1) Obviously, there will be a considerable drop off in terms of offensive efficiency without Westbrook & Durant and this will help DET’s defense
2) OKC’s have some great size on the bench to matchup vs. DET’s frontcourt… Collison, Adams and even Thabeet will give some size to OKC and so, DET’s won’t punish OKC down low & boards like they are used to do.

My fair line for this contest is 208/210 points and so, I’m taking the Under in here!

Pick: 3 units (Single Dime Play) on 509/510 Under 213 @ -110

KANSAS CITY ROYALS -120

Guthrie/Kuechel
The Royals finally got their first road win of the season yesterday after dropping their first 5. I believe Kansas City will build on that against a bad team to begin with and the pitching matchup clearly in favor of the Royals with Guthrie on the mound. Take Kansas City
