Today's Winner...
20 Dime play on Providence over Wyoming. The Friars are currentaly between 9 and 9 1/2 point favoorites depending on where you shop.
I love Providence in this spot, speciefically because they got their asses handed to them by La Salle yesterday. Keno Davis' Friars came into that game 4-0, with a defense allowing 30% shooting. And then La Salle subsequently destroyed them on the boards, shot 50%, and pulled away in a game that was really never that close (pulled as close as 6 in the second half). That's what makes the line on this contest so interesting. Obviously, oddsmakers believe the Friars are going to bounce back, and so do I.
Listen guys, Providence's first four wins were no abberration. Sure, they came against lesser comp, but there's no question the Friars have improved since coach Davis came aboard in 2008. They're young, but they have talent, starting two freshmen in Coleman and Batts. Sophomore Vincent Council is another youngster to go along with the veteran and leading scorer Marshon Brooks. The Friars aren't big, but what they lack in size, they make up for in length and tenacity. Remember, coach Davis brings the same defensive prowess he had while at Drake, and I believe we'll see them rebound and defend the ball a hell of a lot better than they did yesterday against La Salle.
If there's one things to note about the Friars, despite the loss yesterday and all the youth on their roster, they turned the ball over only 7 times to La Salle' 19. This will be key in tonight's game because I believe we're going to see a major letdown by the Cowboys tonight. They put everything they had into trying to beat the Tigers yesterday, only to come up short. Recovering from that kind of loss in a big game is going to be easier said than done, especially against a highly motivated Friars team. Wyoming commited a ton of turnovers against Mizzu, 19 in all, including 9 from Desmar Jackson, while only dishing out 6 assists! That kind of ratio is going to spell trouble against this Providence D.
Bottom line, I'm fading the public big-time in this match up. You see, with everyone having seen Wyoming hang tough with Missouri, and also Providence lose to La Salle, this line is BEGGING for Cowboys money. It looks like such a bargain, but my clients know there's no such thing as a "bargain" from the oddsmakers. Providence will bounce back strong here, while Wyoming suffers a letdown following their close
