Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays Tampa Bay Rays
-110 at bodog

5* A.L. East Game of the Year (ESPN) on Rays -110

The Rays are one of the best home teams in baseball at 42-22, and I like them to bounce back strong against a Red Sox team that is 1 game below .500 on the road. The Rays are 5-2 at home against the Red Sox this season and 16-5 over the last 21. Tampa Bay has the edge on the hill tonight with Garza against Beckett. While Beckett has had a terrific season, he has struggled of late. The right-hander is 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA and 10 home runs allowed in 18 1-3 innings over his last three starts and the Red Sox are 1-4 in his last 5 road starts vs. the Rays. Garza is at his best at home and has been an absolute Red Sox killer. The Rays are 6-0 in Garza's last 6 home starts vs. the Red Sox. In fact, Garza is 7-1 (10-2 against the money line) lifetime against Boston with an ERA of 2.66 and a WHIP of 1.076. The Red Sox are 2-12 in their last 14 road games vs. a team with a winning record, 1-9 in their last 10 games as a road underdog, and 1-4 in Beckett's last 5 starts vs. a team with a winning record. The Rays are 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss, 72-25 in their last 97 home games vs. a right-handed starter, and 9-3 in Garza's last 12 home starts. Take the Rays.

Crystal Ball

2 ** Colorado Rockies -1.5 (-130)
20-7-1 Overall
12-2-1 current run
2-0 WTD

Ladies & Gentlemen:

Welcome to Chapter Eleven of the incredible ride. Crystal Ball has been crippling the Books for his entire career, but these runs are always special. At the current pace of 12-2-1, the Books have their wives shopping the sales, and buying generic canned goods to weather this storm! We've broken so many Books together, we ought to start a library........
Last night I promised you a victory with a FOUR STAR PIPEBOMB lock, and as usual, we shared in the spoils of victory. Johnny JFK freaked out a little bit when the Orioles kept it close early......I told him, "Go back to bed, it's a done deal." He called me a 7:32am this morning to apologize for doubting after the Yankees proceeded to dominate late. Tonight, we'll keep them on the run, but I've decided to dial it back to a TWO STAR selection.
The New York Mets are done. Injuries, fighting, and management have combined to cost them what should have been a legitimate run at the postseason. The Colorado Rockies occupy the spot they had reserved last winter. That's all you need to know, I've done the rest of the work.....
Take the ROCKIES (-1.5) -130 to smoke the METS tonight for TWO STARS. You know I usually avoid laying the run line at home, but this one is just too easy. Bank it!
Remember: I don't say it, unless I play it.
Crystal Ball is out!

0-1 yesterday

1* Milwaukee Brewers Team Total Points UNDER 3 -125 for Game

Chris Carpenter has only allowed 3 or 4 runs twice in his last 10 starts and is is 9-0, 2.00 ER in his last 11 starts. I normally play the under Team Total if it is at least set at 3 on all of Carpenters starts.

15* Giants/Phillies UNDER 9

Jump on the under in the Angels/Mariners game on Tuesday night. Ervin Santana has been up and down this year for LA, but has four straight quality starts. The under has hit in eight of his 11 starts against the Mariners. Seattle has been a solid under team all year long and I think that this number is inflated due to the fact that the Angels have great offensive numbers this season. The fact is that they won't score as much in this pitcher-friendly park.

Jim Feist - Early Walkoff Wipeout!

(905) WASHINGTON NATIONALS (+1.5, ov8.0)
(906) SAN DIEGO PADRES (-1.5, un8.0)
Wednesday, Sep 02 2009, 12:35 PM PST
Take " (906) SAN DIEGO PADRES "

Washington is a long way from home, 3,000 miles. In fact, this will be their 9th straight road game and it's been a lousy trip. The defense is terrible, the bullpen is worse, and the offense has slumped badly on this long trip. Starter John Lannan is also slumping, with a 7.63 ERA his last three starts. San Diego is decent at home and starter Kevin Correia (9-10) is decent, not walking anyone. Correia picked up the win Friday against the Marlins. He allowed four runs over 6.2 innings while striking out four. The team is 7-3 his last 10 starts. Play the Padres.

4 Unit Play. Take Under 8.5 between the Atlanta Braves @ Florida Marlins (Wednesday @ 7:10pm est). If yesterday is any indication of today's game, this should be a competitively pitched series all the way through. The Marlins come off a loss yesterday and will look to keep chase with the Braves in the wild card race. In that same token, Vasquez looks to have a much better effort then when he last faced the Marlins and gave up 10 hits and five runs. In fact, it was a game the Braves were expected to win handily as Vasquez went into that game favored two to one. I expect him to have a much better effort against the Marlins today as I expect Vandenhurk to pitch well as he typically does against the Braves. Rick is 1-0 in his last two starts vs. the Braves and has given up just two earned runs in 11 innings against the Braves. I look for this game to likely go under the posted total as the Under is 5-1 for the Braves in their last six road games and the Under is 19-9-2 for the Marlins following a loss.

Good luck,

IC

Complimentary MLB Premium Play for Wednesday (9/2)

LA Angels (+118) [Kasmir over Hernandez] for 1.5 Units

Angels/Mariners 6:40: The Angels have been resilient over the course of the season;
they're 8-3 following their last 11 losses and 8-1 after scoring 2 or less. The Angels
pitching has started to blossom as their bats are colling down. LA should continue to
pitch well with newly acquired Scott Kasmir who is finding his rhythm of late. And he
sports a solid 3-1 mark with a 3.21 ERA vs Seattle. On the other hand, Felix Hernandez
is coming off a sluggish start and sports a shaky 3-5 mark with a 4.77 ERA in 14 starts
vs LA. The Angels play the dog and road roles well going 17-5 and 24-10, respectively.
Angels the call.

20* Best Bet on Tampa Bay Rays -110

The Rays have owned the Red Sox in Tampa Bay this season, earning a 5-2 record in their 7 meetings in 2009. I like the Rays to take another game away from the Sox here with Matt Garza on the mound. Garza has pitched well at home, posting a 3.25 ERA and 1.81 WHIP in 14 home starts with the Rays winning 9 of those 14 games. He is also 7-1 in 12 career starts against Boston, including 2 wins against them in Tampa already this year. I'm also fading Josh Beckett in this situation as his struggles have been glaringly apparent over his last 3 starts. Over that stretch he is 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. The Sox have pulled to 3.5 games ahead in the AL Wild Card standings, but they really need Beckett to get his act together if they want to hold that lead, not to mention to have success in the playoffs
