Play: LAKERS
Comments: The Los Angeles Lakers will look for a more complete effort tonight during Game 2 of their 1st round series against the Utah Jazz. The Lakers cruised to a 21-point lead at halftime in Game 1, but the Jazz got it within single digits during the 3rd quarter which didn't please Los Angeles head coach Phil Jackson. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 24 points & 8 rebounds, but also committed 6 of the team's 17 turnovers. Trevor Ariza stepped it up with a playoff career-high 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting while Pau Gasol added 20 points, 9 rebounds & 4 blocked shots. Carlos Boozer finally showed signs of life by scoring a game-high 27 points for Utah, while Deron Williams added 16 points & 17 assists despite shooting just 4-of-14 from the field. Even though Los Angeles shot 55 percent from the field in Game 1, they allowed Utah to grab 20 offensive rebounds. Look for a better & more spirited effort from the Lakers tonight, as they will win to take a 2-0 series lead. All Lakers.
Result: Pending

Play: PISTONS
Comments: The Detroit Pistons will see if their claim of "trying to be more physical" with LeBron James will come true tonight, as they will try to get even with the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 of their 1st-round series. James dominated Game 1, as he scored a game-high 38 points while grabbing 8 rebounds & dishing out 7 assists during the Cavaliers' 102-84 win. James did get help from his supporting cast, as four other Cavs finished in double-figures. Rodney Stuckey led the Pistons with 20 points despite shooting just 7-for-21 from the field. If Detroit plans to tie this series up tonight, they must get more production out of Tayshaun Prince. Prince scored just 4 points in 37 minutes during the Game 1 loss & will be the main defender of James for most of the game. Look for Game 2 to be closer, but for Cleveland to prevail & take a 2-0 series lead. All Pistons.
Result: Pending

Detroit at Cleveland
Pick: Detroit +11.5

The Pistons are a veteran team full of pride. They were hit in the mouth in game 1 and I don't expect them to go down so easily tonight. The public is all over the Cavs here which is right where the odds makers want them. We'll go against the grain to pick up the easy cover. Right off the bat, history is in our favor as plays on road underdogs of 10 or more points with a losing record revenging a road loss are 88-48 ATS the last 5 seasons. Cleveland is 0-9 ATS after scoring 100 points or more 5 straight games since 1996 and is 13-3 ATS in a road game where the total is between 170 and 179.5 points over the last 2 seasons. In other words, when the odds makers are expecting a low scoring, defensive game, the Pistons are covering the number more times than not. After allowing the Cavs to break the century mark for the first time in 14 playoff games against them, expect the Pistons to really tighten the screws defensively to keep this one close. Take the points.

Utah Jazz (48-35) at Los Angeles Lakers (66-17)
Utah Jazz have dropped eight of their last 10 overall and continue to play poorly away from home, 2-10 straight-up and against the spread in their last 12 road game and went just 15-26 in the regular season. Go with the superior Lakers in Game 2 at the Staples Center to take a 2-0 lead in this best-of-7 series. The Jazz are 1-9 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Lakers -11½

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009 7:05 p.m. est.
Oakland Athletics (5-7) at New York Yankees (7-6)
(L) Dana Eveland (0-0) vs. (L) Andy Pettitte (1-0)

Go with the Yankees with veteran southpaw Andy Pettitte on the hill. Pettitte went 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA in two starts against the Athletics last season and is 10-5 with a 3.27 ERA in 19 career starts against them. New York has won the last four contests versus the Oakland.

(5) Houston Rockets (1-0) at (4) Portland Trail Blazers (0-1)
Houston Rockets were in command in Game 1 versus Portland, as well as the past three clashes. They have outplayed them in all aspects of the game both on offense and defense. Take the veterans to overwhelm the Blazers again tonight at the Rose Garden. Houston has won eight of the last nine against the Trail Blazers, 6-2 ATS.

Houston Rockets +6

Tuesday, April 21, 2009 10:30 PM EST.
Utah Jazz (48-35) at Los Angeles Lakers (66-17)
Take the Lakers to continue their dominance over the Jazz. Los Angeles is 35-7 at home and will most likely clobber the Jazz again tonight at Staples Center. Utah is a dreadful road team and is a sorry 1-9 both straight-up and ATS in the last 10 clashes against the Lakers in Los Angeles.
