THE PICK > Syracuse Orange -1
THE ANALYSIS > First off, lets look at a couple of key players for these teams. RB Daniel Thomas for Kansas State, is the best player for this offensive unit. He’s a ball pounding bruiser who weighs over 225 pounds and is six-foot-two. He’s accumulated right at 1,500 yards with his legs this year and has accounted for 16 TD’s. For Syracuse, their answer for Thomas will be linebacker Doug Hogue. He is the leader of unit that ranks 5th in the nation at stopping opposing offenses. He’s accumulated close to 90 total tackles this year with about 10 of them going for a loss. Now that those stats are out of the way, and we’ve seen that this could be a pretty even matchup, lets continue on and find us an edge that should put one of these teams over the top and allow them to walk away with the win here.
The Orange have a running back tandem that will get their yards in this game. One is quick and speedy who can beat you with bursts for big yards, and the other is a power back that can push a pile for an extra few yards if needed. Delone Carter averages a whopping 5.1 yards per carry and can wear down the interior of a defensive line over the course of a game. The other is Antwon Bailey, who averages right below Carter with 4.7 yards per carry, can hit the outsides and pick up large chunks of yardage at a time. This is especially important you see because they will be able to penetrate a weak defensive line for Kansas State with relative ease. The Wildcats have not performed up to par all season, especially with any consistency, as their two leading tacklers are defensive backs. Meaning they are a couple of yards further behind the original line and over the course of a game, those few extra yards at a time really begin to add up. David Garrett and Tysyn Hartman will have their hands full in this one for this Kansas State defense and by the 4th quarter should be wore down.
