CARDINALS vs. STEELERS

PICK: ARIZONA +3

This is, of course, a Super Bowl rematch, and will be the sixth such opening week preseason rematch of this decade. Interestingly, of the previous five, four of them came after very competitive Super Bowls, and in those four cases the team that lost the Super Bowl is 3-1 SU in the first preseason game. Those teams are 1-1-2 ATS, but all were chalk, and of course the Cardinals are dogs here, so the 3-1 is the more meaningful number. That NFL mini-system aside, Cards have other things going for them as well, most notably an honest to goodness battle for the #2 QB job between Brian St Pierre and Matt Leinart. Both will play a lot, and both know they need to do well. On the other hand the Steelers QB rotation consists of Dennis Dixon and Mike Reilly after Big Ben and Charlie Batch, and much prefer Leinart and St Pierre. One more personnel note is that the Cards will have a decidedly Pittsburgh flair late in the game with Tyler Palko (QB) and Rowland-Smith (RB) playing back on their home stomping grounds. Finally a word about the coaches, and as such it is notable that Tomlin has "led" him team to a 2-0 record in preseason openers he really had no choice to win those two games, as Sean Payton came right and said prior to the 2007 opener that he did not care about winning, and last year Tomlin beat Andy Reid, one of the worst Week One coaches in the NFL, and even then the Eagles had a 19-9 FD edge. Just not convinced Tomlin cares, but Whisenhunt will - especially back in Pittsburgh - and the Cards did win both preseason road games last year. Take the points in this one.

Redskins/Ravens Under 31.5

Both teams are recognized for their defensive play before offense, The Redskins O-Line is banged up and will be playing in a very tough stadium against a team that prides themselves on tough home defense. Jason Campbell wont play to long nor will the rest of the Redskins offensive starters. I just do not see Washington putting up many points. The Ravens on offense will be without a few key receivers and tight ends. I do not see the Baltimore backup QB's doing much. The Ravens have lost Matt Stover and will be going with a guy who is unproven in that category. This will be a huge lost this year for Baltimore who is always a team that has settled for 3pts opposed getting the ball in the endzone for 7. With a new kicker they might chew up a lot of clock this year and come up with zero points.

Take the Under.

here are his 2 remaining plays that haven't gone off yet. If anybody wants the other 2 plays that have gone off for tracking purposes just let me know and I will post em. I would post em but some people in here don't get the fact every post isn't put on here the second it is released. :think2:
Don't feel like listening to the comments about posting games after they start even if you say it is just for tracking purposes..

mlb
1* hou/fla o-10
these are 2 teams that right now can't stop an opposing offense if they tried. West and Hampton aren't going to change that trend either.
Hampton in his last 6 starts has only thrown 27IP , allowerd 26 er. and put 59 runners on base(2.2 whip). That is disasterous. Houston has plated 28 runs in the 1st 3 games of this series and has gone over the total 6-1-1 in the L8 games.
west has been only slightly better than hampton. In his last 6 starts he has thrown 29IP, allowed 22ER and put 59 runners on base. Florida has gone over the total 8 of its last 10 games. Neither bullpen is doing much to put out the flames.
Trends supporting this play are the over with Hampton on the mound is 8-0 L8 vs NL East and Astros are 24-8 L32 vs NL east. For the Marlins the over is 48-23-4 in Marlins last 75 home games vs. a team with a losing record, over is 27-13-1 in Marlins last 41 games as a home favorite of -110 to -150, and west is over 4-1 L5 starts

1* N.E. Patriots +3
NFL X betting is all about motivation and who is resting rather than who has the better team. In this one the Patriots have some real incentive to show off their sportscar that just had repair in the shop(Brady). Brady blames his injury on not playing much during last preseason. He said his awareness wasn't as sharp as it needed to be and this year we will remedy that. This means that the starters will stay in for more than the customary "1st series only" that Belichick usually does. The Patriots were embarassed in their last preseason game by philly. They were down 21-3 in the 1st half in that game. Never one to miss a chance to motivate, Belichick had the box score draped all over the locker room.
The eagles have never performed well in preseason under Andy Reid. It just isn't his MO to win, it is all about evaluation and health. The Eagles have only had 1 winning preseason in Reid's 10 years as Eagle coach. The Eagles are also a banged up unit with Back up qb Kolb out , RB westbrook just coming back after off season surgery and right tackle andrews with back issues. Reid said his starters will play 1.5 quarters tonight , but that can change if McNabb takes one good hit from his blindside.
Look for the pats to win this game outright as they come out fast in the 1st half and then hold on in this preseason opener

good luck to everyone on their bets tonight!!

50♦ REDSKINS - From what I’ve read, Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco has struggled with throwing interceptions in camp thus far, and I am very interested in seeing how he fares against an improved defense that most certainly has something to prove in this game. Trust me, an opposing defense in game-time speed is much different than wearing a red shirt and knowing you won’t get hit.

Baltimore is also very dinged up and even though it wouldn’t feature many of these starters for that long, the fact they’re stinging should be alarming. Linebacker Terrell Suggs, wideout Mark Clayton and offensive lineman Marshal Yanda are all out, while most notably sitting on questionable status are: receivers Derrick Mason and Demetrius Williams, tight end Todd Heap, defensive end Trevor Pryce, safety Ed Reed and offensive linemen Ben Grubbs and Jared Gaither. Offensively speaking, that’s simply too many people Flacco would normally be counting on.

I don’t care this one is in Baltimore; coach Jim Zorn was balls to the wall last preseason, and will take the same approach with his revamped stop unit. I like the dog in this one.

50♦ RAIDERS - Every Thanksgiving the Cowboys are featured in one of the football games. This year they’ll face Oakland, and since the Pokes aren’t necessarily a team that is worried during the preseason, I don’t think there concerned about showing too much in this one; not as much as the Raiders need to show themselves what they’re made of against a squad like America’s Team.

I found it humorous to find this line: “Cowboys fans with a penchant for betting like a fan might want to avoid this one, for several reasons, not the least of which is that it is the preseason …” in a newspaper article, but there it was. Let’s face it, the oddsmakers are saying the exact same thing, right? If you and I were getting ready to sit down for turkey and stuffing, we’d be looking at a probably a touchdown favorite in Dallas. But it’s Week 1 of the preseason, and the Raiders are the installed chalk. And for good reason …

There aren’t as many questions that need answering with the Cowboys, there is no quarterback controversy, there is no new coach and quite frankly, there is no reason to play-to-win. Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett specifically noted he wasn’t planning anything for “this preseason game” and will “run fairly basic stuff.” Neither he nor coach Wade Phillips appeared to be worried about winning this football game, and I have to believe Oakland coach Tom Cable will feel the pressure to win this one with owner Al Davis looking on at home. Lay the points here.

PAY-AFTER-YOU-WIN - 500* - NY Yankees RUN LINE (Sabathia over Snell)

Well, it took the Yanks extra-innings on Thursday afternoon to defeat the Blue Jays, and of course they had to fly to the other end of the country, but I have to believe it is a whole lot easier to fly to the pacific northwest when you have won 9 of your last 10 games, and you lead your division comfortably.

Sure, it may take a few innings for New York to get their bearings, but when they do, they will rout this Seattle team.

Ian Snell is all kinds of messed up, as going from Pittsburgh to the Emerald City has not be the "change" the M's were looking for, as Snell has allowed 5 runs, and 5 hits in his 7-plus innings of work for his new club, but worse still is his 9 walks allowed in that span! Against a patient team like the Yankees, that spells doom.

CC Sabathia loves him the month of August, and last start against Boston was a dominating one, as the portly southpaw allowed just 2 hits, and no earned runs in nearly 8 frames, while fanning 9.

The Yankees will get the train rolling around the 5th inning, as this one has 9-2 final written all over it.

Take New York on the RUN LINE.

Does anyone have Wunder dog's 5 unit today?

New England Patriots @ Philadelphia Eagles Thursday August 13, 2009 7:30 pm

5 units ATS: New England Patriots +3 (-120)

This exhibition game offers substantial history to follow as it relates to coaching philosophies. This year marks the 10th for Andy Reid as head coach of the Eagles and the ninth for Belichick leading the Pats. Coach Reid has never been about victorious in the exhibition season, but rather about testing and evaluating new personnel. That is evidenced by the fact that Philadelphia has not had a victorious record during the preseason for each of the last six seasons. His teams are 15-25 during the NFL-X under his tenure. His record gets even worse in week one, where Reid's Eagles are just 3-8. It is tough to lay points with a team that has a long history of victorious very little under their current coach - especially in week one. Coach Belichick actually has a victorious record since taking over at New England with a 20-17 mark. In week one preseason action, his Patriots teams are 6-4. In addition, normally Tom Brady could care less about playing in the preseason. But, this is not a normal year for him. Coming off a year of inaction, he's chomping at the bit and will play in this game. He wants to show everyone, including himself, that he's back. Coming off an 0-4 preseason last year, I look for the Pats to try to have added incentive win this year. I have an NFL-X system that backs teams that had a bad preseason last year that applies in this game. The system is 15-4 ATS including 5-1 the past three seasons. I'll take New England with the points in this one.

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at Oakland Raiders - Raiders -2 -110
Game Date: 8/13/2009
Note: This line is all over the place and you might have to take -2.5 here. That will be OK. The Raider have been just awful in Regular Season Play but this is not that. This is Preseason, and more importantly, the first game. They have a strong QB Rotation tonight with JaMarcus Russell, Jeff Garcia, Charlie Frye, and Bruce Gradkowski. Actually though Garcia will not play but Russell will play one full quarter and the other 2 very capable QB's will finish out. We can expect Tony "The Lover Boy" to play a couple of series and then here comes Kitna. After Kitna sees action the pickings get slim for the Boys. Those second half guys will be facing an Oakland D which is going to utilize the blitz often this year under new D Coach John Marshall and they will be practicing that tonight......a lot. He did it at Seattle, and he will do it here. We could easily see some miscues from Rudy Carpenter and Stephen McGee for sure. Oakland needs to get their minds in the right frame and an all out effort tonight is expected. That is common for teams coming off poor seasons and the Raiders certainly qualify for that. The Cowboys could simply give a Rat's Ass.
