Northwestern Wildcats vs. Purdue Boilermakers
A huge match-up is scheduled to tip in the Big Ten on Sunday night from West Lafayette, IN where the Purdue Boilermakers (15-9, 10-11 ATS) will look to right the ship against a hungry Northwestern Wildcats (15-8, 9-9 ATS) outfit; The Big Ten Network will carry this one live from Mackey Arena starting at 6:00 ET.
The 2011-12 Northwestern Wildcats would love nothing more than to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the programs history. That desire was put on hold a couple weeks back when Head Coach Bill Carmodys kids dropped three in a row to Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Purdue to fall to 2-6 in conference play. However, the Wildcats rallied in each of their L/3 games to pull out SU & ATS victories over Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois The Cats halted their nine-game losing streak in Champagne with the huge 74-70 outright win and road cover as six-point underdogs. Fans and betting backers of the Wildcats are hoping that road win can propel them to a win in this spot with UNW managing just three outright wins in their L/14 trips to Mackey. For that to occur, leading scorers John Shurna (19.5 PPG) and Drew Crawford (17.0 PPG) must pack their A games with them, and hope the supporting cast can find a way to solve what has been a leaky PU defense that it should compete with on the glass. UNW checks in 2-5 SU & 3-4 ATS away from Evanston to date.
The window of opportunity looks to be closing shut on Head Coach Matt Painters squad this season. Though Robbie Hummel is back for what seems like his 10th year of eligibility, the Boilermakers severely miss the services of both JaJuan Johnson and ETwaun Moore who are both hooping it up at the next level right now. Its been a rough go for Purdue this season, and it hasnt been the lock its been at home like in years past. The Boilers enter tonights crucial contest having lost each of their last two contests (1-1 ATS) to the Ohio State Buckeyes and Indiana Hoosiers. The only win this squad has tallied in its L/5 games came against the Wildcats at Welsh-Ryan Arena where they squeaked out a 58-56 outright win as one-point underdogs. PU checks in 10-3 SU & 5-5 ATS as a host on the year, but has already been defeated by Wisconsin and Indiana in its own house.
Purdue beat Northwestern 82-69 as 10-point home chalk in the teams lone meeting a season ago, and followed it up with the two-point win already mentioned from earlier this season; the Boilers stand 3-0 SU & 2-0-1 ATS in these teams L/3 meetings. The Wildcats are 5-2 ATS the L/7 times they played off a pointspread triumph, and the over has cashed in five of their L/7 versus the Big Ten. Purdue has failed to cover each of their L/9 following an ATS win, and the over has cashed in four of their L/5 home games. The over is 5-1 the L/6 times these teams squared off in West Lafayette.
