Jake Timlin Sunday's Action 400♦ Colorado Rockies

Specify Marquis & Latos as starting pitchers or play is void

Go with the Rockies as they bound back for the easy road win.

In great shape to bounce back I love the Rockies today as I am a bit shocked Colorado is not a much bigger favorite. Reason why I believe Colorado should be a much bigger favorite is the fact they own the Padres having won 9 of the last 13 meetings. Not to make it 10 of 14 will be Jason Marquis who at 11-6 leads the NL in wins and who is only getting better over his last three starts thanks to posting a 1.17 ERA.

Meanwhile, for the Padres they come into today with two things going against them as they have failed to win back to back home games in nearly two months and with Latos making his MLB debut after being called up from just single A baseball. Mix that in with the fact the San Diego is just 4-17 over their last 22 games and I don’t see they winning back to back home games.

Flat out, when I saw the price tag on this game I was tempted to play the run line as I don’t see the Rockies losing with Marquis pitching against a rookie, but with runs hard to come by at Petco I will settle for a Colorado win.

All Colorado!

20* No-Brainer on Texas Rangers -105

Take the Rangers to avoid the sweep against the Twins tonight. Minnesota starter, Francisco Liriano has had an up and down season, but his overall numbers speak for themsleves. Liriano is now just 4-9 on the season with a 5.47 ERA and 1.49 WHIP, which includes a 5.83 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 10 starts on the road this season. I know that Rangers' starter, Derek Holland is not very experienced and he has struggled lately, but the Rangers are outscoring the Twins by more than a full run when you compare their home and away splits. The Twins are only 19-24 on the season as the visitor, so don't expect them to continue their winning ways in Texas tonight.

15* on New York Mets +220

Even though Javier Vazquez has pitched very well for the Braves this season, he is suffering from an abdominal strain, and it's hard to see him and the Braves as such a heavy favorite in this spot. New York starter, Fernando Nieve, has been pretty solid for the Mets so far, notching a 3-3 record and a 3.21 ERA in 6 starts this year. The Braves are hitting just .255 and scoring only 3.7 runs per game against right-handed starters this season. The risk is well worth the reward on this huge underdog.

15* on Detroit Tigers +135

Back the Tigers against the Yankees with Edwin Jackson facing off against Joba Chamberlin. Jackson has been rock-solid for the Tigers, earning a 7-4 record, a 2.52 ERA, and 1.05 WHIP in 18 starts for Detroit. He will give the Tigers a great chance to win against Yankees' starter Joba Chamberlin, who has been decidedly underwhelming this season. Over 17 starts, Chamberlin has just 6 decisions (4-2) and has a 4.25 ERA and 1.56 WHIP, including a 5.36 ERA and 1.74 WHIP in 9 home starts, and a 6.75 ERA and 2.40 WHIP in his last three appearances.

15* on Giants/Pirates UNDER 7.5

Take the Under with two solid starters throwing against two weak offensive units. Matt Cain has been incredible for the Giants this season, going 10-2 with a 2.38 ERA, including a 2.53 ERA at home, as well as a 1.17 ERA over his last 3 starts. Zach Duke has struggled a little in his last three appearances, but hasn't give up more than 4 earned runs in any of those outings. He is now 8-8 on the season with a 3.29 ERA, including a 2.77 ERA in 9 home starts. The Giants are hitting just .245 as a team on the road and posting only 3.5 runs per game. The Pirates hit slightly better at home, but still score only 4.5 runs per game, up from their 4.2 runs per game on the season.
