Larry Ness' Weekend Wipeout Winner-NFLX (won 34-6 on Friday)-Sat
My 9* Weekend Wipeout Winner is on the Bal Ravens at 7:30 ET.
After opening the 2014 preseason with consecutive home wins at FedExField against the Pats, who played without Tom Brady, and then last Monday night, against the Browns. Neither Hoyer nor Maziel did much but still, the 'Skins almost got "nipped at the wire."
Washington needs only to make a short trip up I-95 to take on the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium but it will be no 'picnic.' The Ravens opened their preseason with a win in "Harbaugh Bowl III" (23-3 over San Francisco in Week 10 and then took down the Cowboys in Dallas, 37-30 in Week 2 (scored 14 points before the offense took the field).
The Redskins have never won a preseason game at M&T Bank Stadium and the Ravens, under John Harbaugh, are 17-9 SU in August games. Baltimore is known for making game-changing defensive and special teams plays and the Ravens lived up to that reputation last week vs Dallas, with the defense and special teams each registering a TD.
Jay Gruden (Washington's first-time head coach) finds the NFL road (even here in the preseason), a unpleasant experience. Ravens move to 3-0, not the Redskins! Lay it!
Good luck...Larry
Larry Ness' NFLX Week 3 Las Vegas Insider (1st of 2014)-Sat
My 8* NFLX Week 3 Las Vegas Insider is on the KC Chiefs at 8:00 ET.
The Kansas City Chiefs opened the 2014 preseason with a wild 41-39 home win over the Bengals but then last Sunday night at Carolina, lost 28-16 to the Panthers. Despite the loss, the KC defense opened the game with three consecutive three-and-outs and sacked Panthers QB Cam Newton twice.
Mike Zimmer is a first-time head coach in Minnesota and his preseason has been all about finding a starting QB. The battle has been between veteran Matt Cassel and rookie Teddy Bridgewater. They have both performed well. Cassel started under center and completed 12-of-16 passes for 153 yards and a TD in last week's 30-28 home win over Arizona, while the rookie first-round draft pick finished 16-for-20 for 177 and two scores in relief. Bridgewater threw two TD passes, including one with 18 seconds remaining which lifted Minnesota to an exciting 30-28 preseason victory over the Cards in Minneapolis.
Another solid performance in Kansas City will likely sew up the job for Cassel but "Two-Minute Teddy" was born against Arizona last week. Bottom line however, is that the Vikes scored just 10 points in a four-point home win in Week 1 against the sad-sack Raiders and last week needed "Two-Minute Teddy" to bail them out. This marks their first road game, as KC returns home for this all-important third preseason contest.
Andy Reid is a seasoned veteran and did a great job in turning the Chiefs from a 2-14 'embarrassment' into a playoff team in 2013. His teams have posted a 10-5 SU record in Week 3 games and I expect him to improve on that here, with an "easier than expected" win AND cover!
