Usually the oddsmakers know what they are doing when they set the Cavs as an 11 point favorite or greater in the playoffs. The Cavs are 5-0 ATS in their last five quarterfinal games according to my numbers and they are 4-0 when they are favored by 11 points or more. Hence, they face a Bulls team who they have revenge over from losing to them earlier this year by a score of 108-109 at Chicago, and this is a team who they beat at home by fourteen points earlier this year. This is Lebron's time to shine with this new ballclub that has been assembled around him. This team will want to make an immediate statement in Game 1 and send a clear message, that they are here to win this year's Title and hence, I can't see this team laying off the gas pedal. Heck, with the likes of Jamison, Shaq in addition with Lebron, this team has a great deal of depth. The Bulls are a good team and they came on strong to close the year, but again, the Cavs have revenge and they can easily extend the lead at any time. And, this is once again a statement game for them as they kickoff these 2010 playoffs. I also like the fact that Lebron has been itching to play as he has been sitting on the sidelines resting and without a doubt, he cannot wait to get back on the court and win in a big way. Practice or no practice, Lebron does not like to lose and the simple fact that the Cavs lost four straight coming into these playoffs as key players rested does not bode well with anyone who likes to win all the time. For these reasons of revenge, itching to get back into the thick of things and wanting to win badly, wanting to make a statement in these playoffs and the fact that the Cavs historically with Lebron have done very well as a 11 point favorite or better, I like the Cavs to win in a big fashion today. Heck, the Bulls lost by 11 to the Nets on the road, I can see them losing by 15-20 points today given the strength of the Cavs bench.
4 Unit Play. #927. Take Under 9 between the Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Redsox (Saturday @ 7:10pm est). Both of these pitchers should have quality starts today and if this is any indication of yesterday's pitcher's duel, we should have yet another under on our hands. Bear in mind that that Shields has pitched well in first two starts of the year although it has not resulted in a win for him. He pitched brilliantly against the Yankees leaving with a 2-1 lead only to have his bullpen cost him a win as he yielded just 4 hits and 2 runs in just over 5 innings. I suspect Shields will have a solid start today as although he has miserable numbers against the Sox in Fenway, I do like the fact that he will be competitive today as he seeks his first win. Tack that on with the fact that Buccholz has always been strong at home, Clay has given up just four earned runs in ten total innings, and is 2-1 versus Tampa Bay with a 2.39 ERA in those four starts, I like this game to stay under the posted number today. Note that the Under is 7-1 when Shields is a road underdog and the Under is 6-1-1 when the Red Sox face a team with a winning record.
