*500 Air Force +3.5

Air Force just may be the better team in this matchup. After laying the hammer down on Nicholls State they proved they are hungry for the end zone. This is an Air Force team that every year puts together a good offensive unit. Minnesota barely snuck by Syracuse, and I wasn't at all impressed with the play calling or performance of the entire Minnesota team.

Let's look at some trends, and by the way they all point to a Air Force cover. Air force is 12-2 ATS in game 2 after a game where they scored greater than 33 points. Air force is 8-0 ATS in games 1-3 away and when the next opponent conference is MWC. Air Force is 8-1 ATS in game 2 as dog and when the line less than 15. Air force is 8-0 ATS in game 2 and when the previous against the spread margin was greater than 3. Air Force is 11-0 ATS when the total is between 42.5 and 49 over the last 3 seasons. Air Force is 8-0 ATS after playing a non-conference game over the last 3 seasons. The Falcons are 9-1 ATS allowing 14 points or less last game over the last 3 seasons.

Don't be suprised here if Air Force wins this game by 10. Air force may be worth betting SU also. I have them as 10-0 SU since 1999 and game 2 and next conference is MWC. I am suggesting Air Force plus the points as an easy cover and I am giving them my highest rating of *500.

Saturday, September 12th, 8:00 PM EST.
(3) U-S-C Trojans (1-0) at (8) Ohio State Buckeyes (1-0)
Site: Ohio Stadium - Columbus, Ohio

The Trojans have won the last six clashes against the Buckeyes, including crushing them last year 35-3 in Los Angeles. Ohio State struggle with Navy last Week and will face a bigger assignment tonight versus USC.
USC hasn’t lost a non-conference regular-season game since 2002 and has been rewarding in road openers, going 11-1 both straight-up and against the spread the last 12 years.

Take the Trojans to win their 12 straight.

Tulsa -17' for 2.5 Units

If New Mexico were on the S&P 500, they would be nearing Chapter 11 and in a bailout mode. The Lobos were slapped with a 3 year NCAA probation tag and new HC Locksley has his work cut out for him. The Lobos' once reliant run game should continue to suffer and QB Porterie doesn't have a great supporting cast to pick apart a well disciplined Tulsa defense. On the other hand,Tulsa's QB Kinne showed composure last week at Tulane and should follow up well here vs a young Lobos' defense that won't have Rocky Long around any more calling the shots. Tulsa is 8-3 as a favorite of 10+, 9-3 in September and 4-1 in non conference action. The Lobos are 1-4 as a double digit dog and 1-4 after allowing 450+ yards. They won't have much fight here either.

Al DeMarco
Al DeMarco Saturday's Play 5 Dime - Tennessee

The Lane Kiffin era began last Saturday at Rocky Top with a 63-7 drubbing of Division 1 neophyte Western Kentucky, a game in which quarterback Johnathan Crompton threw five touchdown passes and the Vols dominated the Hilltoppers in the first half, owning an 18-1 advantage in first downs and a 297-24 edge in total yards.

UCLA is obviously better than Western Kentucky, but the Bruins have three things going against them. First, they must travel cross-country and play in humid conditions. Two, their redshirt freshman quarterback, Kevin Prince, will be making his road debut in front of over 100,000 orange-clad fans. Lastly, this is a huge revenge game for Tennessee as it blew an early lead in last year's game at UCLA, eventually losing 27-24 in overtime.

The Bruins opened with a 33-14 home win against lowly San Diego State, but last Saturday's final score was deceiving since they trailed by two touchdowns early before holding the overmatched Aztecs to 130 total yards the rest of the game. The Volunteers obviously have a much more dynamic offense for UCLA to deal with, led by Crompton, who finally fulfilled the promise he's long had in last Saturday's home opener.

UCLA signal-caller Prince has the unenviable task of facing a much improved Tennessee defense under the tutulage of Monte Kiffin, the head coach's father and former long-time defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The elder Kiffin brought his Cover-2 defense to Knoxville, a defense that for years frustrated veteran NFL signal-callers. Now Prince, in his first road start, will face it's wrath.

Some will say this is a dangerous spot to back Tennessee considering the Vols have a huge game next week at Florida. But Kiffin knows the importance of building his team's confidence before heading off to Gainesville. He knows how much he stirred the pot and reinvigorated the Rocky Top fan base with his big talk throughout the winter and spring after his hiring. Throw in a dash of revenge for a program looking to regain its swagger and price and it ads up to a three-touchdown blowout for a motivated home favorite in Tennssee.
