Cleveland Indians vs Cincinnati Reds Cincinnati Reds
-105 at bodog
4* Major MLB Interleague GOTW on Reds -105
The Reds took Game 1 3-1 to improve to 5-0 in their last 5 home games against the Indians and 7-1 in their last 8 games against Cleveland overall. The Indians are 2-9 in their last 11 interleague road games, 3-13 in their last 16 during game 2 of a series, 1-6 in their last 7 games as a road favorite, and 1-8 in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Reds are 5-1 in their last 6 during game 2 of a series and 4-1 in their last 5 interleague home games vs. a left-handed starter. Cincy is 17-4 against the money line at home when the total is 11 to 11.5 since 1997. I'll back the Reds in this slugfest.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Denver Nuggets Los Angeles Lakers
+4-115 at bodog
5* 2009 NBA Playoffs Game of the Year (ABC) on Lakers +4
First off, the Lakers are one of the finest road teams in the NBA at 31-15 this season. Secondly, each time LA has lost in these playoffs, it has responded with a convincing double digit win. In fact, the Lakers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a SU loss. Thirdly, anytime you can get LA catching points, it is worth strong consideration, especially in a bounce back spot. The Lakers are 21-8-2 ATS in their last 31 games as an underdog and 15-6 ATS in their last 21 games as an underdog of 4.5 or less points. Plus, LA is 17-6 ATS in road games versus explosive offensive teams - scoring 103+ points/game in the 2nd half of the season over the last 3 seasons. There's no question the books have overvalued the Nuggets here as the public is jumping on their bandwagon. The Nuggets are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite of 4.5 or less. The Lakers are 41-14 SU against Denver since 1996 and 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings. Pound LA tonight as they win this one outright!

1-for-1 on Friday, with a winner on Soundman ($4.00)

Belmont - Race 7

#2 Gridiron (12/1 ml)

3yo firster for John Terranova comes in off a couple of heads-up drills with the older stakes horse True Resurgence, and priore to that had been working heads-up with African Knight, who ran a solid second in his debut on May 2. Maragh gets the call, and he was aboard a winning 2yo firster for Terranova on Thursday. Looks live.

Hollywood - Race 4

#1 Mossad (5/1 ml)

Good Puype colt is reunited with Gomez (who was aboard for the going-away maiden win), comes in with a solid workout over the local turf course, and catches a field loaded with front-end speed, from which he should be able work out a good stalking trip. Legit threat from off the pace.

Hollywood - Race 5

#1 Extended (3/1 ml)

Koriner trained-and-owned filly showed high speed in her 2yo debut over this same surface last year, going clear immediately and apparently coasting home an easy winner before Kerwin John managed to blow the race in the final jump. That guy is just allergic to winning. Looked all set for start #2 on the jockey change to Gryder, but got squeezed at the start and evidently injured himself, as he was eased after about a quarter-mile and hasn't raced since. Worth noting that despite the gate incident, he was right there with Streamin Heat after a quarter-mile, and that one returned to wire a stakes field in his next start. Anyway, Extended now returns from the extended layoff with a string of good workouts for Koriner, who drops her into a maiden-claiming race at a short 5.5 furlong distance that should be much to her liking. Go-to rider Talamo gets the call, and this one looks well-meant for the return. Should pop the gate from her inside post and prove tough to catch.

Fight at Stephen Nover May 23 2009 10:00PM
PICK: Stephen Nover
EXPERT: Stephen Nover
REASON FOR PICK: Rashad Evans continues to get better and better with each fight. He has a top man in his corner, Greg Jackson. He can devise a plan that will create problems for Lyoto Machida.

Evans is the superior athlete. He's also in tip-top shape, which could make a difference in this five-round main event. Evans has shown he has knock-out power, an excellent chin and is extremely light on his feet. He has the necessary speed and agility, which is a must when fighting someone who gives you the kind of angles Machida does.

Look for Evans to get the better of Machida whenever they fall into clinches.

Another factor to consider is the UFC would love a fight between Evans and Rampage Jackson. That could happen if Evans wins this fight.

The UFC definitely doesn't want to have both Anderson Silva and Machida as their main title holders because they aren't crowd pleasers.

The bottom line, though, is this is great value to get an undefeated champion in Evans, who has never lost as an underdog.

Los Angeles Lakers at Denver Nuggets May 23 2009 8:30PM
PICK: Denver Nuggets
Your pick will be graded at: -3.5 WSEX
EXPERT: Stephen Nover
REASON FOR PICK: The Nuggets are a perfect 12-0 against the spread in the playoffs, depending on the number. They have won all six of their games at the Pepsi Center in the post-season and will be sky-high for this matchup. So will their rabid fans. The Nuggets haven't lost at home in 11 weeks.

The Lakers are reeling a bit, knowing they are lucky to have split the first two games at home. Denver very well could be up 2-0 in this series. The Nuggets' confidence is very high. Chauncey Billups has provided the necessary leadership and defense to get the Nuggets over the hump.

Nene and Kenyon Martin have been much more effective inside than Andrew Bynum. The Lakers have to be worried about Bynum.

This is a one-unit play for me.
