MONMOUTH PARK Race #1 at 12:50 PM Eastern

Top pick: #2 (SUNDAY DREAMER) - Well-spotted this afternoon as the "hot" barn of Bruce Levine cuts him back in distance and drops him in class. He's the main speed of this group and the likely winner if he clears early.
<!--p-->
2nd pick: #3 (Brahminical) - Nice looking maiden win in his first for trainer Tim Shaw and he's known for turning many runners around and making them much better. Fits here and if the top pick tires, he looms the probable winner.
3rd pick: #7 (Brown Dirt Cowboy) - He returned from a six-month layoff with a solid effort at Gulfstream against better and he'll drop slightly for this attempt. Repeat of his lates figure puts him in the mix.

PICK: Texas Rangers
Your pick will be graded at: -112 Belmont
EXPERT: Stephen Nover
REASON FOR PICK: Texas' Scott Feldman is an underrated pitcher who the marketplace hasn't caught up with yet. Feldman has a 2.03 ERA in his last five starts, giving up just 19 hits in 31 innings. He's walked only seven and hasn't allowed a home run.

He has a major league-best 0.84 ratio. Yes that's even better than Zack Greinke's 0.91 ratio. Feldman is pitching above his head. Still, he has a lot of confidence right now with a greatly improved defense behind him. The Rangers also have back from the DL closer Frank Fancisco, who hasn't allowed an earned run this season. He pitched last night, but threw just 16 pitches so he should be available if needed.

The Rangers also have back star outfielder Josh Hamilton.

Making this matchup so attractive is Houston's pitching situation. The Astros are going with Brian Moehler, one of the worst pitchers in the National League. The Astros are also below average defensively and their bullpen is in shambles. Their bullpen has a 5.79 ERA in the last three games.

Closer Jose Valverde is on the DL along with fellow relievers Doug Brocail and Geoff Geary. That basically leaves Chris Sampson and new closer LaTroy Hawkins. Both, though, have serious fatigue issues.

Sampson has pitched in three straight games. Hawkins has thrown 41 pitches the past two nights. The Astros are in a lot of trouble in this matchup.

This is a two-unit play for me.

This is NOT a confirmed service play but Dave Malinsky during his weekly Friday late night radio segment on Sirius 98 stated that Texas (right now lined at -113) would be one of his MLB plays for Saturday.

Los Angeles Lakers (74-22) at Denver Nuggets (63-31)
Go with Denver tonight at Mile High City. The Nuggets were able to make it difficult for the Lakers in Los Angeles. I predict it will be worse for them in Denver. The Nuggets have won 16 straight at the Pepsi Center and is 6-0 both straight-up and against the spread in the playoffs at home. The Lakers are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games.

Denver Nuggets -3½

Saturday, May 23nd, 2009 7:05 p.m. est.

Colorado Rockies (16-25) at Detroit Tigers (24-16)
(R) Jason Marquis (5-3) vs. (R) Armando Galarraga (3-3)

Go with the roaring Tigers tonight at home. Detroit has won their last seven games and the last seven at Comerica Park. The Tigers will send Armando Galarraga to the hill. The right-hander has struggle as of late, 0-3 with a 10.90 ERA in his last four starts, but is 4-1 in his last 5 home starts and 4-0 in his last 4 interleague starts. Meanwhile, Colorado has lost five of their last seven games overall and the last four in Detroit. Additionally, they have dropped their last 7 interleague games. The Rockies will counter with Jason Marquis. The right-hander is 1-2 with a 7.64 ERA in his last three starts.

Detroit Tigers -145
