INDIAN COWBOY
NHL. His GOTW. 5 Beers. #57. New Jersey vs. Pittsburgh (Monday @ 7:00pm est)
The Pittsburgh Penguins are on a roll having won their last nine games. They are scoring goals in bunches, but what drives this team is their defense. They rank in the top 3 in goals/shots against and penalty killing. They host the struggling New Jersey Devils and their struggling offense which ranks 30th in the league. Martin Brodeur should come off the DL to start this game and bring some heart to the struggling team. I look for him to keep this one close and possibly pull out a win in what should be a close, low scoring game. Bear in mind that Pittsburgh comes off scoring seven goals in their last effort and are set up for a classic let down here and New Jersey who has given up ten goals over the last two games, will focus more on the defensive end as they get a bit healthier today. The under is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings and this one has a solid chance to stay under also.
NBA. 4 Beers. #502. Take Under 208 Toronto Raptors vs. Indiana Pacers (Monday @ 7:00pm est).
When the Pacers come off a loss, its a good thing for a strong defensive effort the next time they play. The Pacers are a defensive team by nature this year given the players they feature in their front line, including the likes of Hibbert, McRoberts, and defensive guards such as Rush and Collison out of Kansas and UCLA. This is why Indiana is 13-5 to the Under this year. Toronto has been playing great basketball and typically their games have been going over the posted total at home, and a bit more unders on the road. I expect this game to be similar to the contest played in Portland a while back when the final score of the game didn't reach 180. I can see Toronto being focused on the defensive end coming off a struggling defensive performance against New York at home and I can see Indiana focused on defense coming off a loss themselves. The Under is 8-0-1 for the Pacers as a home favorite by this margin and the Under is 5-1 in the Pacers last six home games.
CBB. 4 Beers. Take Furman -7 over NC Greensoboro (Monday @ 7:00pm est).
Furman has revenge from last year's loss to NC Greensboro on the road by a score of 65-66. Regardless of the fact that NC Greensboro does not have a win, Furman will look to avenge that loss. This is a team that nearly beat Kent State on the road and lost to them in overtime, shoots above 71% in free throws, and started conference play 1-0 defeating Elon at home by 15 points. NC Greensoboro is a team outside the top 300. Furman is just inside the top 200 in most power rankings. NC Greensboro lost to a North Carolina A&T team who is outside the top 300 by 12 points, and I suspect as they face a top 200 team who is looking for revenge, Furman likely cashes the spread by winning by double-digits. Furman is 13-4 ATS when facing teams with a straight up losing record and the Spartans are 8-20-2 ATS in their last 30 home games.
