BEEF O’ BRADY’S BOWL (St. Petersburg, FL)
East Carolina over Ohio by 7
There was a lot of grumbling when Ohio made the postseason cut, leaving a more
deserving Toledo team out in the cold. The Bobcats lost their bearings in November,
suffering a trio of ugly defeats before righting the ship at the expense of fetid
Massachusetts. Now they get to face an East Carolina team that suffered only two setbacks prior
to their season-ending defeat vs. Marshall at hostile Huntington. The
Pirates own one of the nation’s top quarterbacks in Shane Carden, a defense that
reduced their yield by average of 67 yards over last season, and their superior speed
should translate well to this indoor venue. However, Ohio fell into the same rut last
year, losing their last three November games by an average of 20 points, and then confounded
the experts by routing Louisiana-Monroe in the Independence Bowl. QB
Tyler Tettleton isn’t as talented as Shane Carden, but he has a wealth of experience and has
performed well in the postseason, earning MVP or co-MVP honors in Ohio’s last
two bowl games. The bottom line is we think the oddsmakers and early-bird bettors
overreacted to Ohio’s late-season swoon.
EAST CAROLINA 38-31.

*San Francisco over Atlanta by 14
Maybe the Falcons never recovered from blowing a 17-point lead at home to San
Francisco in last season's NFC Championship Game because they are just a onepoint
home win against the Redskins this past Sunday from having the fewest wins
in the NFC. The Falcons have proven more competitive lately covering three of
their last four, but at 4-10 are in evaluation mode starting five rookies on defense.
The 49ers are hitting their stride with four straight wins and nine covers in their
last 11 games. There could be some added emotion, too, for San Francisco as this
is likely the final game at Candelstick Park. The 49ers are slated to play in Santa
Clara next season.
SAN FRANCISCO 30-16.
