4 Unit Play. Angels/Mariners Under 8.5

4 Unit Play. Angels/Mariners Under 8.5 (Monday @ 10:10pm). Long story short here, after getting thrown out of the game, I expect Lackey to come out with some fire in his first full start of the year. His last start was obviously cut short as he beaned Ian Kinsler. On top of that, he faces Washburn who comes off a ND at Texas but his team lost 5-6. Wash is the type of pitcher that nearly always bounces back as he is 3-2 with a 3.11era this year and bear in mind the last time he faced the Angels in Anaheim he was roughed up so he has the revenge angle here as well. As per the side, I do think the Ms likely win but more importantly, I think with Lackey wanting to send a message that he is back plus the fact Wash comes off a non-quality start all combines into the fact for this game to likely dip under today. The Under is 8-2 for the Angels overall and the Under is 5-1-1 for the Mariners overall and the Under is 4-1 for Lackey when he faces the Rangers of late.

For Monday let's play a rare total and go low between Arizona and Florida.

I definitely do not love totals as they are crap shoots and there is absolutely no rocket science going on here but the way Jon Garland has been pitching on the road and the way his Diamondbacks don't really hit a lick I can't help but believe that this thing has 3-2 written all over it.

Ricky Nolasco is not great and without a doubt has been struggling mightily of late but the Florida righthander should feel fairly comfortable on his home mound and is up against an offense that is just not very good right now. Sure Arizona may be a force to reckon with eventually as guys like Upton, Drew, Young and others are solid young players but many more times than not collectively this group, at this point, just does not score runs.

Florida obviously jumped out of the gate with that 11-1 start to the season but ever since the Marlins have been a bad team. Not all of that at all has been due to the offense however the bats are far from clicking right now and up against Garland should not exactly bust out. Hanley Ramirez is a superstar and can hit anybody but the Arizona starter should be extrenmely fresh after getting rained out in Atlanta on Sunday and continue the success on the highway.

Either team being able to muster four runs today seems like a bit much to me in this spot so therefore I will endorse that under!

No walk off needed to day as I look for the Yankees to sweep the four game series with a blowout tonight. You see thanks to having won the past three series games it’s New York who has dominated the Twins at home by winning the last 8 series meeting and 23 of the last 25 games dating back to 2002. Meanwhile, overall for the Yankees they seem to be turning things around as they have now won their last five games overall. Well thanks to Andy Pettitte who is off to a 3-1 start to the season I fully expect for New York to make it six straight overall wins and doing so without any late inning rallies. All New York as they continue to dominated the Twins in the Bronx.

PICK: New York Yankees -1 ½

Milwaukee +115 at ST. LOUIS

Baseball tonight, and we will stick with the red-hot Brewers as they look to sweep the banged-up Cardinals.

Milwaukee has won the first 2 games played over the weekend, and they are now 8-3 at Busch since last season, and 12-5 overall versus the Cardinals since last season.

Both Braden Looper, and Kyle Lohse are 3-2 for the season, and both sport similar ERA's, so you can't expect a ton of goose eggs on the scoreboard tonight.

The difference will be in the lineups, as St. Louis has some ailing bodies right now, while the Brew Crew are at full strength.

Milwaukee sports a 5-game win streak, and we like them to make it 6 straight with the win tonight.

Play on the Brewers.

Today's TIP OF THE DAY:
Sport: NHL Playoffs

Game: 7:30PM Carolina Hurricanes vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Prediction: UNDER 5.5

Current Line: -210

Over/Under: 5.5

Reason: The Carolina Hurricanes and the Pittsburgh Penguins will both be trying to pick up a win on Monday when they battle at Mellon Arena in the opening game of the Eastern Conference final.

Oddsmakers currently have the Penguins listed as 210-moneyline favorites versus the Hurricanes, while the game's total is sitting at 5½.

Scott Walker scored at 18:46 of overtime as the Hurricanes defeated the Bruins 3-2 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals last time out.

The Hurricanes won that game as +250 underdogs, while the five goals went as a PUSH against the posted over/under (5).

Rod Brind'Amour and Sergei Samsonov scored in regulation for the Hurricanes. Cam Ward stopped 34 shots in the victory.

Sidney Crosby scored twice and added an assist to lead the Penguins to a convincing 6-2 victory over the Capitals in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals last time out.

The Penguins won that game as +115 underdogs, while the eight goals sailed OVER the posted over/under (5.5).

Craig Adams, Bill Guerin, Kris Letang, and Jordan Staal added singles for the Pens. Miroslav Satan and Evgeni Malkin pocketed two assists apiece in the win

OC Dooley:
The following is also being featured on the Monday PREMIUM report:

"1 UNIT" NATIONAL-TV TOTAL (Twins at Yankees OVER 9' in a 7:05 eastern start on ESPN--------Perkins versus Pettitte): With the new Yankee Stadium having so many nationally televised games already, most of you reading this analysis know that the new facility in the Bronx has been a launching pad for hitters towards the rightfield stands. Normally I would not take the OVER with a relatively light hitting team like Minnesota, but the recent return of their All Star catcher and "middle of the order" stick from injury has made this offense potentially potent. Twins catcher Joe Mauer who missed all of spring training with back issues has torn the cover off the baseball in the past 9 games compiling a .429 batting average along with 5 homers. With Mauer back in the lineup, Minnesota's other big stick Justin Morneau has seen better pitches to hit in that same time span with a .379 batting average and 6 homeruns. The Minnesota player that I will be keeping an eye on is designated hitter Jason Kubel who in the past five games has a batting average (.526) that is among the best in the majors. Odds are the Minnesota offense is going to have to be productive because tonight's starter Glen Perkins in the past four trips to the mound (7.25 ERA) has struggled. Perkins is like alot of hurlers who threw a record amount of innings in 2008 and is now paying for that "over use" this campaign. I will admit that Yankee star Alex Rodriguez has struggled with batting average since returning from injury, but he has HOMERED each of the past two days. In the past week firstbaseman Mark Teixeira who is a notorious slow starter has come alive at the plate hitting .407 with 3 homers along the way. Yankees veteran outfielder Johnny Damon in the past ten games (.324 with 4 homers) has also put up impressive offensive statistics. I will admit that Andy Pettitte looked sharp in his most recent Yankee start, but this is the same pitcher who allowed 14 runs to score in the prior 17.2 innings of work. My database research indicates that the Yankees are 19-9 OVER/HOME long term when off consecutive games were the defense committed no errors. Yesterday marked the third consecutive "walk off" dramatic win for the Bronx Bombers in this series, which opens the door to one more interesting database angle. In the past two years Minnesota just happens to be 20-6 OVER when off a very close loss which was decided by a ONE run margin!
