Reasoning: Dontrelle Willis has had a nice little resurgence thus far into his short comeback here in Cincinnati but he has yet to get a win and it’s not exactly a coincidence as his current team pretty much stinks right now. Granted I don’t love the San Francisco offense at all but the Reds are not the same team that won the division last season and are pretty much falling apart at the seams right now.
Willis is probably still an implosion waiting to happen and even if not his teammates are a frustrated bunch that seem to wet the bed a whole heck of a lot. There is talent there with Votto, Bruce and Phillips but things just are not right at this juncture as evidenced by getting swept in a four game series at home by the Mets and almost falling out of the divisional race.
The Giants did just make a move to bring in Carlos Beltran and are a first place team that won the World Series last season. They also have a guy in Ryan Vogelsong who should be the comeback player of the year with that amazing 8-1 record and 2.10 era. The right-hander has been better than both Lincecum and Cain for much of the season and to get him and the definitely better team at this bargain basement price is a must play, even if not a bomb dropper.
The Great American Ballpark is a hitters’ park and the still fairly weak San Francisco lineup may get a boost from this and in the end win this thing going away.
